The climatic terrain cure is a special form of exercise therapy characterised by activity adapted to one’s fitness level, endurance training, and time spent in the outdoors experiencing the landscape, which is carried out through a personalised walking programme.
So-called terrain hiking improves endurance and agility, increases speed and flexibility, reinforces the cardiovascular system, stimulates breathing activity and strengthens muscles, ligaments and joints. It has a positive impact on the metabolism, activates the digestive system and noticeably increases the expenditure of calories.
The climatic terrain cure is recommended for functional cardiovascular disorders, respiratory and metabolic disorders, and above all is a tried and tested method of primary prevention and general health promotion.
The "Terrainkur" trails in Partschins/Parcines have been certified by the Ludwig-Maximilians-University of Munich.
To commemorate the First World War, the municipality of Toblach/Dobbiaco and the Province of South Tyrol want to use this themed path to remember the diverse, interesting and eventful history of the Höhlensteintal/Val di Landor valley. In order to show this story, suitable sculptures were erected at 4 locations, which evoke associations with the topics of traffic & travel, view of the Three Peaks, tourism & alpinism and war & defense and make these easily understandable for everyone.
Transport & Travel: There is an abstract locomotive on the former railway line, as a reminder of the Dolomite Railway, which operated here from 1921-1964. At the same time, the history of the railways and traffic is dealt with.
View of the Tree Peaks: The portal on the street as an eye-catcher and the covered wooden platform are the actual starting point and thus the most important part of the themed path concept. At this station, the topics of the Dolomites UNESCO World Heritage, the Three Peaks Nature Park and mountaineering history are dealt with, with the pioneer Paul Grohmann, who set out from the Höhlensteintal valley on August 21, 1869 to climb the Three Peaks for the first time.
Tourism & Alpinism: A stagecoach with information on the successful and later tragically ending tourism history of the Postgasthof and later Grandhotel Baur is a reminder of tourism. At this point, the ruins of the hotel complex, which was unfortunately completely uselessly blown up due to the impending war in 1915, are still visible. The chapel alone was spared at that time.
War & Defense: A steel sculpture in the form of an armored personnel carrier is located at the location of the huge fortress from 1884, which was built by the Austro-Hungarian Empire and taken over by Italy after 1919. In 1942 it was supplemented with extensive bunkers.

The Way of the Cross is 1200 feet long, the exact length of Jerusalem's, and was built by Emperor Maximilian in 1519.

A bloody trench warfare lasting two years followed, which was ultimately not to bring about any decisive change.

This very special trail makes it possible to establish a close bond with nature and its forces. The stations along the trail invite you to meditate on the energy of nature and its power to heal the human body.
It begins with an introduction to the geomancy of this place, illustrating the classic settlement patterns of villages and churches, most of them dating back to the Neolithic era. Particularly characteristic are the three churches, built over ancient places of worship. The three churches of Villabassa were constructed
at a later date, on the exact spot of these ancient sacred places immersed in Nature. Their original meaning remains unknown to us. Then there is the house known as the “Dreiurschenhaus”, which alludes to the idea of trinity and is related to the three churches.
Another significant element is the large number of trees in the area with three ramifications.
Walking through the forest and in the fields or along the natural biotopes, in a deep and dedicated bond with nature, our brainwaves are transformed. In a process similar to deep meditation, the two halves of our brain begin to harmonize at the same rhythm, emulating healing processes and channelling energy at every level. With the construction of the Kneipp facilities, Villabassa has made health a central issue.
Now this meditation trail will bring psychic and therapeutic enrichment to everyone who experiences it as
an alternative to the consumerism of our times.
According to a legend recorded by Ignaz Vinzenz Zingerle, two children once found a sword made of pure gold here. This sword was stuck in the earth, and couldn’t be completely pulled out. When they returned the next day, a man dressed in old-fashioned attire led them to the grotto behind the waterfall where there were magnificent chambers. That’s where the man revealed to them that he was waiting to be released from a curse: Only he who was able to completely draw the sword from the ground would be able to save him. The sword and the man in the old-fashioned clothing were never seen again.
