From the agreed meeting point at the parking lot at the freeway exit, we set off - ideally in carpools - towards the top of the Penser Joch (the transition between the Eisacktal Valley and the Sarntal Valley). Alternatively, by prior arrangement, anyone who wishes can drive directly to the parking lots below the Penser Joch, the starting point of our hike.
From this position, our path leads mostly along the ridge, gently ascending and not very difficult, always accompanied by breathtaking views. Our destination is the summit of the Zinseler (2,422 m), from where we can enjoy an impressive panoramic view. The panorama stretches from the glaciers of the eastern main Alpine ridge over the Pustertal valley to the Dolomites in the south and extends westwards over the Sarntal Alps to the Swiss border.
The view down into the valley basin of Sterzing is particularly impressive, where the lights of the old town and the striking Zwölferturm tower create a picturesque scene. The highlight of our tour will undoubtedly be the unforgettable sunset, which transforms the sky into a fascinating play of colors. We then immerse ourselves in the silence of the night and walk back to the car under an unforgettable starry sky.

Hike at Karersee and Perlenweg with Laura
The hike starts at the parking lot of the Paolina chairlift valley station, a popular starting point for excursions around Karersee. From here, the trail initially passes the elegant Grand Hotel before reaching Karersee — a true natural gem with its crystal-clear turquoise water. The lake’s circular path runs along well-maintained trails and offers particularly scenic views. After circling the lake, a picturesque suspension bridge crosses a small stream, leading to the Moseralm hut.
From Moseralm, the hike continues along a forest road passing through the expansive Frinner meadows. This section is pleasant to walk and offers stunning views of the surrounding mountains and lush alpine pastures. After about an hour, you reach Pension Jolanda, where a cozy lunch break is planned. Here, you can refresh and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere.
The return route follows the so-called Perlenweg (hiking trail no. 1A), which winds through shady forest at the foot of the impressive Rosengarten massif. The path is well marked and easy to walk, making the hike suitable also for families and leisure hikers. The total length of the tour is about 8 kilometers, with a walking time of roughly 3 hours.
Today we get out in nature! On our exciting voyage of exploration we visit the fruit tree meadow at the Koasa Hof in St. Johann. Delicious fruits such as apples, pears and plums grow there and we’ll discover how to make jam, juice and apple rings from them. Maybe we’ll even get to taste some ourselves! As well as fruit trees, there are also some small animals on the farm – for example chickens and rabbits. Together we’ll find out how to harvest and process fruit and how important nature is for our food.
So pack your rucksack and bring a good mood with you – and let’s have a fruity adventure!
