Quite a challenging hike to the Haunoldköpfl panoramic mountain south of San Candido/Innichen. The hiking trail becomes quite steep in some places towards the end. However, when you reach the summit you have a breathtaking view of San Candido that makes all your efforts worthwhile. There is also a section during the climb up where you can catch a glimpse of all three of the Three Peaks.
Long hike on the path nr. 4, starting from San Candido and passing the Cappella del Bosco Chapel, until reaching the Baita del Cacciatore Mountain Hut. Return on the same route.
22.07. - 06.09.2024: the hiking trail remains closed due to work.
One of the most beautiful snowshoe hikes is the tour from the beautiful Plätzwiese high plateau (2000 m) past the Dürrenstein hut to the magnificent Strudelkopf peak with its viewpoint (2300 m). This excursion is easy and ideal for all ages.
Starting point: Plätzwiese high plateau (2,000 m)
Arrival: Strudelkopf peak (2,307 m)
From Baranci/Haunold valley station follow the route 28 and then route 6 to the "Riese-Haunold-Hütte" mountain refuge. Then take the steep path next to the ski lift "Untertal" which brings you first to "Maierkaser" (unmanaged hut) and then to "Pausa Ganda/Gantraste". You will have a beautiful view over San Candido!
Scenically beautiful Alpine ridgeway with views of the main peaks of the Sexten Dolomites.
No car is necessary for this long, but not difficult, circular hike due to the dense network of trails, but you will need a good hiking map!
The easy winter walk takes around the idyllic lake of Dobbiaco/Toblach.
A nature trail around the lake with 11 stations provides valuable information on the vegetation, wildlife and geomorphology of the area.

The highlight of this winter hike are the views of the wonderful peaks of the Sexten Dolomites which can be enjoyed all the way along the hike. The whole area is also part of the Drei Zinnen Nature Park and is therefore a place of special beauty and tranquillity, especially in winter. The destination is the Dreischusterhütte mountain hut, where you can fortify yourself for the return route. The hut is open from Christmas to the end of March. The hike itself is relatively easy, a pleasant walk right across the Innerfeldtal valley.
Quite difficult, but very beautiful hike, starting from the Val Campo di Dentro/Innerfeldtal Valley in the middle of the unique Three Peaks Nature Park. The path until the destination Three Peaks is entirely on the Alpine Dolomites Hiking Path No. 4. At arrival on Rifugio Locatelli/Drei-Zinnen-Hütte Mountain Hut you will have a stunning view of the Three Peaks.
Panorama: from the Forcella del Lago spectacular view into the heart of the Dolomites of Sesto
Probably one of the nicest hikes in the San Candido/Innichen region. Its main attraction is the wonderful peaks of the Sexten Dolomites that tower over the whole of the Innerfeldtal valley. The area is also part of the Drei Zinnen Nature Park and is therefore a place of special beauty and tranquillity. The destination for this hike is the Dreischusterhütte mountain hut, which is open from June to the beginning of October and also has accommodation. The hike is relatively easy with no particularly difficult sections.
Leaving the town towards west, shortly before the gas station, turn right and go up until the Hotel "Schopfenhof". From there go straight ahead and you will pass several farms until arriving to Dobbiaco/Toblach. Return by bus or train. Otherwise you can also return on foot, starting from the train station in "Neutoblach" and following the bike route along the rails to San Candido/Innichen.
A leisurely walk from Sesto over the Mitterberg/Monte di mezzo to the Gasthof Panorama with a wonderful view of the sundial of Sesto.
From the top of the Mount Elmo across the Alta Via Carnica and through wood until Innichen / San Candido.
The meadows of the Gsell mountain are an insider tip for nature lovers and those seeking peace and quiet. The meadows of Inner- and Außergsell spread out on the north side of the mighty Dreischusterspitze. The Gsellwiesen meadows are traditionally mown and the larch meadows are evidence of the mountain farming landscape.
A hike of tranquillity - solitude and silence paired with magnificent panoramas. The view of the nearby peaks of the Sexten Dolomites and the Carnic mountain ridge and the impressive view down to Sexten are particularly rewarding.
You should bring your own food and refreshments, as there is no catered hut.
The cultural round tour passes at all famous churches and chapels at Dobbiaco/Toblach. The parisch church of St. John the Baptist, the sanctuary of St. Mary, the chapels of Melate/Mellaten, Monte Rota/Ratsberg and Fienili/Stadlern, the church of San Silvestro/Wahlen an the "Leitnstöckl" are visitable.
An extremely scenic, six-kilometre high-altitude trail that follows old war trails and can also be recommended to less experienced mountain hikers, especially as the ascent can be done by lift and the way back by bus. The good trail leads from the Rotwand meadows, partly at the tree line, partly above it at the foot of vertical rockfalls, almost flat to the Kreuzberg Pass. From the path there are beautiful views of the Carnic ridge and the ice peaks of the Rieserferner group to the north.
Wonderful winter hike trough forests and meadows in Dobbiaco/Toblach.
suitable for baby stroller
Comfortable hike through the beautiful and scenic valley Innerfeldtal. A special feature is the view of the mighty rocky backdrop of the Dreischusterspitze/Punta dei Tre Scarperi.
If you are looking for solitude and want to enjoy nature and its sea of flowers to the full, the western circuit of the Gsell mountain is highly recommended. It can be walked either directly from the centre of Sexten or from the Innerfeldtal valley.
This is an easy but very nice hike, where you have the possibility to half it, going back by bus from the Passo Monte Croce. Many visible residuals from World War I.
Leisurely hike on the path nr. 4, starting from San Candido and passing the Cappella del Bosco/Waldkapelle chapel, until reaching Sesto/Sexten.
This hike leads to one of the most beautiful high plateaus in South Tyrol in the heart of the Fanes-Sennes-Braies nature park, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Plätzwiese high plateau fascinates with an overwhelming view of the surrounding mountains of the Dolomites. Dominating everything is the northernmost 3000 metre peak in the Dolomites - the Hohe Gaisl (3146m).
Please note: Due to the temperature fluctuations, there may be icy patches on the trails and we therefore recommend the use of crampons!
Legends and stories about the Sextner Tal valley and the Alta Pusteria/Hochpustertal valley have been told and passed on here for years. Now these many fairytales and stories have been used to create a Fable Trail (Fabelweg) in Sesto. Figures depicting characters from all kinds of legends have been set up along the route, giving visitors an insight into a different world.
This easy round walk brings you on the top of the Mount Elmo. It is one of the most beautiful vista points and offers a 360 ° view with the central Alps mountains in the north and the many, many Dolomites peaks in the south. This tour is ok also for a half day trip.
