The hike from Gfrill to the Trudner Horn takes place in the unspoilt landscape of the Trudner Horn Nature Park. It leads through forests, alpine meadows and protected natural areas, offering lovely views over the South Tyrolean lowlands. The Trudner Horn Alpine Farm is an inviting place to rest and makes this hike a rewarding nature experience.

 

Itinerary

Route: The starting point is Cauria, an idyllic mountain village (1,230 m) above Salorno/Salurn. Near the car park, behind the small church, the E5 European long distance hiking trail leads through lush meadows and magnificent forests to the Weißensee lake, an upland moor at 1,670 m. From here, continue on the European long distance hiking trail to the Trudner Horn Alm Alpine farm (1,710 m) with fantastic views of the Lagoraikette mountain chain and the Renon high plateau. The Schwarzensee lake is a 15 min. march on trail no. 3. Trail no. 4 leads via the Gfrillner Sattel past the Drei Fichten Hof farm back to the village of Cauria.

Details
A good level of fitness is required. Some sections are steeper and may become slippery when wet. Weather conditions can change quickly near the summit, so appropriate clothing is essential.

The hike is especially beautiful in spring and autumn. Wildflowers decorate the meadows in spring, while the mixed forests create spectacular colours in autumn.
Getting to the starting point of the tour or point of interest by public transport is easy and convenient.
Directions

Freeway A22, exit Egna/Ora, then on the SS 12 to Salorno, to the centre turn left and follow the Via Roma and Via Noldin to the Piazza Municipio. Behind the church take the Via Loreto, then Via Molini e Via Dornach to Cauria.

Parking is available in the centre of Gfrill near the trailhead.
