Summer cycling and mountain biking events

Summer visitors to South Tyrol will be attracted by the region's outdoor offerings, ranging from professional cycle races through to cycling marathons for amateurs.    

For passionate cyclists there are lots of other exciting events to experience in South Tyrol: 

25th -26th May:  The Giro d’Italia will take place in South Tyrol on its 100th anniversary. On 25 May, professional cyclists will fight their way over five Dolomite passes, each with their own mountain stages, until reaching Ortisei/St. Ulrich in Val Gardena. On 26 May, the group will start in San Candido/Innichen in the heart of the Three Peaks Dolomites Region and will reach Piancavallo (Pordenone) after travelling 191 km.

16th -18th June:  Augustour 2017 Leisure and cultural cycling along the Via Claudia Augusta historic road. Cyclists will travel at a leisurely pace from the Reschen Pass through the Vinschgau valley and via Merano/Meran and Bolzano/Bozen to the stage finish line in Trento. Each participant is free to choose his or her own pace. Cyclists can stop to rest whenever they want to enjoy the cultural and natural attractions.

15th - 18th  June: Rosadira Bike Festival in Val d´Ega/Eggental. Four exciting days at "Dolomites Twilight Glowing on 2 Weels". Biking technique workshops, test trails, e-bike tours, night ride, live concert on the lake, local culinary delicacies and much more.

14th – 17th September: BIKE Women Camp in Caldaro/KalternThe bike season comes to a close in Caldaro with the BIKE Women Camp, a must for all women cyclists. Super trails at all levels of difficulty, technique coaching and workshops as well as the latest products from the biking industry will get every woman cyclist’s heart racing that bit faster.

16th September: Car-free Cycling Day on PassoMendola/ MendelpassThe Mendelpass road is reserved for cyclists. For the 9th car-free Cycling Day to the Mendelpass, the road is closed to traffic on the South Tyrolean side from 9 am – 4.30 pm from the Pianizza di Sopra/Oberplanitzing crossroads to the Mendelpass. This means that cyclists can enjoy the 15 bends on the 13 km ride up to the Mendelpass with an altitude gain of 860 m with no distractions. On the Mendelpass Day there are also refreshment stalls at Matschatsch, Mendelpass and Ronzone.

21st – 24th September: Mountain bike Testival on the Domplatz square in Bressanone/Brixen. The best bike and accessory manufacturers come to Bressanone and biking fans can test the bikes to their heart’s content and talk shop with the experts. The Domplatz square is an El Dorado for cycling fans, and admission is free.

23rd September:  Mountain Time Trial from Bolzano/Bozen to San Genesio Atesino/JenesienThe international mountain race covers roughly 10 km with an altitude gain of about 900 metres. The start is at 2.30 pm at the valley station of the San Genesio cable car and the finishing point is the sports ground in San Genesio Atesino.
