Timing matters
The harvest is the most important time of the year for our farmers. Finally, their months of labour come to fruition.
Autumn is harvest time in South Tyrol: in the vineyards, apple orchards and vegetable fields. Healthy, high-quality food can be bought from friendly farmers' markets and tiny farm shops for sampling and snacking, buying and gifting. For winegrowers in particular, the right harvest time is crucial for ensuring the quality of the wine: the sugar content and degree of ripeness of the grapes must be exactly right. Our winemakers harvest the white grapes first, then the red wine varieties. Only after the first frost do they carefully pluck the grapes for the sweet ice wine from the vine, with a lot of experience and instinct.
