This hike leads through the Trudner Horn Nature Park, a natural jewel with diverse animal and plant life.
Itinerary
The starting point is Gschnon/Casignano, at the lime kiln. There is a small parking place and picnic area there. Gschnon (990 m) is an idyllic mountain hamlet above Montan/Montagna. Walk back along the asphalt road for a short distance to join trail no. 9 on the right. The trail climbs steeply and steadily through the well-known Hackelboden until it reaches the Trudner Horn/Monte Corno at 1830 m at higher altitudes. You can enjoy the dreamlike nature park, the magnificent view and the delicious cuisine at the Hornalm. Afterwards, you walk next to lush meadows and through magnificent forests to the Schwarzsee, a lake at 1,700 m above sea level. From here, it is a forest path and trails to the ascent path and back. From Schwarzsee, the Weißsee, a high moor, is a fifteen-minute walk away.
The hike includes longer uphill sections and requires good fitness. Forest paths can be slippery when wet. Snow and ice may occur near the summit depending on the season.
Hiking boots with good grip, weather-appropriate clothing, sufficient water, sun protection, hiking poles and a small snack.
Take enough time to enjoy the summit. The panoramic view from Trudner Horn is one of the most impressive viewpoints in South Tyrol’s Lowlands.
Getting to the starting point of the tour or point of interest by public transport is easy and convenient
Take the A22 motorway exit Neumarkt/Auer. Continue via the Wine Road to Neumarkt and then follow the mountain road up to Gschnon (Casignano). The starting point is in the village centre.
