The varied hike from Pochi / Buchholz to the picturesque Lago Santo follows the historic Dürerweg trail through the forests of the Monte Corno Nature Park. Passing through the Sauch Pass and beyond the Sauch Hut, the trail steadily ascends to Lago Santo, located at an altitude of approximately 1,200 meters. The route offers splendid panoramic views, shady forest sections, and a peaceful natural landscape. The outbound and return journey takes place along the same path.
Follow the signs for the Dürer trail (AD) or path No. 8 towards the Sauch hut. The trail steadily ascends through chestnut, beech, and mixed forests. As the altitude increases, magnificent views of southern Alto Adige open up repeatedly.
Through the Sauch pass, the Sauch hut at about 915 m is reached. From there, continue on the Dürer trail and the path No. 1 towards Lake Santo. The route passes through shaded forest sections and runs alongside the old Roccolo del Sauch. After another ascent, Lake Santo is reached at approximately 1,200 m.
After a stop at the lake, return along the same route to Pochi.
Although the hike is technically moderately difficult, it requires a good level of fitness. Some sections may be narrow, steep or slippery when wet; small streams are also crossed along the route.
Before setting off, always check the weather forecast and current trail conditions. In case of thunderstorms, heavy rain or uncertain conditions, do not start the hike or turn back. Stay on the marked trails and allow enough time for the return journey. In case of emergency, keep your mobile phone easily accessible.
