Kurtatsch/Cortaccia s.S.d.V., Kurtatsch an der Weinstraße/Cortaccia sulla Strada del Vino, Alto Adige Wine Road
This tour leads through vineyards and orchards from Kurtatsch a. d. W. to Margreid a. d. W., past the oldest vine in Europe, via Salurn and Lake Kaltern back to Kurtatsch.

This tour takes us through the vineyards and orchards of Kurtatsch a. d. W. to Margreid a. d. W. In this small village stands the oldest grapevine in Europe, dating back to 1601. The route continues via Kurtinig a. d. W. to Salurn. The return journey takes us through Laag along the cycle path beside the Adige River to Auer. From there, the route continues past Lake Kaltern to Tramin a. d. W. and via Rungg back to Kurtatsch a. d. W.
Itinerary
The tour starts in Kurtatsch a. d. W. next to the town hall. From there, follow Endergasse and then continue along Angela Nikoletti Street until you reach the main road again. This road leads through Margreid a. d. W., passing the Old Vine. Then follow the South Tyrolean Wine Road through Kurtinig a. d. W., cross the Adige River, and continue on the Adige Cycle Path to Salorno. The route then continues along the main road through Laag, before rejoining the Adige Cycle Path to Auer. From there, follow Palain Street and cross the Adige bridge, continuing along the Mitterberg ridge. Next, cycle around Lake Kaltern and follow the cycle path past St. Joseph's Church. Finally, the route leads through Tramin a. d. W. back to the starting point in Kurtatsch a. d. W.

Details
  • Observe traffic regulations and be especially attentive at intersections.
  • At dusk or in poor visibility conditions, use lights and wear reflective clothing.
  • Before setting out, check the current weather conditions.
A bicycle helmet, a roadworthy bicycle, sufficient drinking water, weather-appropriate clothing, and a basic repair kit are recommended.
  • Enjoy the diverse scenery along the South Tyrolean Wine Roa.
  • Take a relaxing break in the historic village centres.
Take the train from Bolzano railway station to Neumarkt-Tramin railway station. From there, transfer to bus line 123 towards Graun and get off at the “Kurtatsch, Freienfeld” bus stop.

Please check in advance whether bicycles can be taken on the bus.
Directions
Take the A22 motorway to the “Neumarkt–Auer–Tramin” exit and then follow the South Tyrolean Wine Road via Tramin to Kurtatsch a.d.W.
