This quiet skitour above Meransen combines solitude, stunning winter landscapes, and magnificent panoramas. The views of the surrounding Sarntal Alps and the Dolomites are particularly captivating. Ideal for those seeking tranquility in the snowy mountains away from the crowds.
Itinerary
Start at the parking lot at the entrance of Altfasstal and immerse yourself in the serene winter landscape. Walk about 300 meters toward Altfasstal until you reach the first turnoff. Follow the sign to "Moserhütte" (closed in winter 2024/25) and turn right onto the sledding trail. This trail gently ascends and takes about an hour to reach the Moserhütte (1,936 m).
From the hut, follow trail no. 6, which leads you over a small hill. Continue along the ridge, passing Großberg and Rumaul, until you reach the summit of Kleiner Gitsch (2,326 m). At the top, enjoy breathtaking panoramic views: to the left, the snow-covered Altfasstal stretches out below; to the right, you’ll see the Endereckeralm and Zasslerhütte (both not serviced) as well as the Gitschberg ski area.
Ensure you bring enough provisions, as there are no refreshment options along the way. Plan your route carefully and check current snow conditions before setting off.
