You start at the parking lot at the entrance to the Altfasstal valley and walk about 300 metres into the valley to the first junction. From there, follow the signs to the Moserhütte, which was closed in winter 2024/25, and turn right onto the toboggan run. The route climbs steadily and leads to the Moserhütte at 1,936 metres in about one hour.
From the Moserhütte, follow trail no. 6 to a small rise. The route then continues along the ridge, via Großberg and Rumaul, to the summit of Kleiner Gitsch at 2,326 metres. From there, views open up over the snow-covered Altfasstal valley on the left and the Endereck Alm, Zasslerhütte– both unserviced – and the Gitschberg ski area on the right.
The return follows the same route. The finishing point of the tour is once again the parking lot at the entrance to the Altfasstal valley.
From Mühlbach, drive north and follow the signs uphill to Meransen. After passing through the village centre, continue following the signs for the Altfasstal valley. Once you leave Meransen, the road leads directly into the valley. At the end of the paved and easily accessible road, you reach the paid car park, which serves as the starting point for hikes in the Altfasstal valley. Allow approximately 20–25 minutes for the drive from Mühlbach to the car park.
