Hiking

The “Almweg 2000” trail in the Val Casies Valley: stage across the alpine pastures Tscharnietalm-Kaser Alm-Stumpfalm-Uwald Alm

St. Magdalena/S. Maddalena - Gsies/Casies, Gsies/Valle di Casies
from center

Explore nature in the Val Casies Valles – a variant of the trail “Almweg 2000”

In the Val Casies Valley you find many beautiful alps, of which some also offer comfortable refreshment facilities. As the name "Almweg 2000" suggests, the trail leads on average about 2000 meters above sea level from hut to hut. Of the various access options, we recommend here the high-altitude hike with the most beautiful panorama and particularly rewarding flora from the Tscharnietalm alpine pasture in the south to the Uwald Alm hut in the north, which together with the ascent and descent form a closed circular hike, which of course can also be hiked in the opposite direction.

Starting point: Val Casies Valley / S. Maddalena
Distance: 15 km
Descent: circular hike
Walking time: 05:00 h
Difficulty: medium
Difference in altitude: 650m
Information: *alternative routes are possible www.suedtirolmobil.info - Lin. 441

Itinerary

From the valley floor at S. Maddalena/Val Casies Valley (1460m, possibility of refreshment, parking fee) follow the road for a short distance into the valley, then turn right past the stream and continuously follow marker No. 47 (farm road) going up in a southeasterly direction along the small valley; then at the fork turn right and follow marker No. 48 (forest road) up through the forest to the Tscharnietalm alpine pasture (1976m; no possibility of refreshment). From there, following the red-dot marker, continue on the high trail in a moderately steep ascent in a northern-westerly direction to the Kasermähder Alm alpine pasture (2048m, no refreshment possibility), continue for a short distance through the slopes partly at the edge of the tree canopy and partly beyond this edge to the Kipfelalm alpine pasture (2104m, without the possibility of refreshment) and afterwards continue on the trail in a long hike to the Kaser Alm hut, or reach the Stumpfalm hut (2001m, possibility of refreshment) in a slightly uphill path and on a wide access road with a comfortable walk then reach the aforementioned Kaser Alm (2076m, possibility of refreshment); from this, along the slope on a marked path on a slight descent, you enter the beautiful Pfoital valley, briefly ascend the valley to a bridge over a stream and then continue along the grassy western slope on the named path on a slight ascent to the Uwald Alm hut (2042m, refreshment possibility); - Descent: from the Uwald Alm  hutyou can either walk the entire length of the comfortable, wide but longer forest road, or on the shorter, steeper old trail (marker No. 12), which is identical to the ascent route in the lower part.
