A journey of discovery of Ladin culture, walking through the village starting at the valley station of the Resciesa funicular and first reaching the 'Solaria' house and then the 'Cudan' house. You will firstly cross a beautiful meadow with a wonderful view of Ortisei, and then plunge into nature through the coniferous forest. You will then reach the characteristic 'Dumat' farmstead. The way back runs along the Via Mureda until, after about 700 m, at the junction, you turn left into Via Meisules, to return to the village centre.

Itinerary

This walk starts at the valley station of the Resciesa funicular and initially runs uphill along Resciesa Street, to the house "Solaria". Keeping left, continue to the house "Cudan". From there, hiking trail no. 8A starts: first through a beautiful meadow with a wonderful view of Ortisei, then through the coniferous forest to the "Dumat" farm. The way back leads along Mureda Street until, after about 700 m, at the junction, turn left into Meisules Street. This way you get back to the village center.

Safety instructions

The use of good hiking shoes is recommendet, especially in case of bad weather. The path along the meadow and through the woods could be slippery.

Equipment

Water-resistant hiking shoes.
Comfortable, warm clothing suitable for the outdoor temperature.

Tip

This easy and characteristic walk is also ideal for families with children. However, the use of a stroller is not recommended, especially on the part through the meadow and the forest.

Accessible by the bus line 350 from Bolzano or 360 from Bressanone to the S. Antonio square. Accessible by the bus line 172 from Castelrotto to the S. Antonio square.
Accessible by the bus line 351 from Chiusa, Laion, S. Pietro to the S. Antonio square.

How to get there

Directions

The valley station of the Resciesa funicolar is easily reached by foot from the center of Ortisei, taking the escalators from the S. Antonio square and walking through the tunnel to the Seceda cablecar. From here, follow the signs to Reciesa, going through Via Roma and turning left on Via Sneton. As you arrive at the road crossing, turn right on Via Resciesa to see the valley station of the funicolar.
