The hike from the centre of Ortisei up to the mountain station of the "Raschötz-Resciesa" funicular is the perfect combination of a peaceful, calm, but challenging hike. Fitness and endurance will be required!
The route begins on the northern side of the breathtaking alpine village of Ortisei, directly at the valley station of the funicular „Raschötz – Resciesa“. At first, the path follows a small side road before soon leading into the biggest forest of Ortisei, the majestic Raschötz forest – a place where peace and nature prevail. The trail then continues steadily uphill towards the mountain station of the funicular „Raschötz – Resciesa“.
Once at the top, you will realize that it was definitely worth the effort. A stunning panorama awaits you, stretching from the Odle group across the Sella- and Sassolungo group, all the way to the Sciliar.
The hike conveniently starts at the lower station of the Resciesa funicular. Just to the left of the station, the via Resciesa climbs uphill through idyllic meadows and shaded woodland up to the Solaria junction. From there, turn right onto trail no. 10, which leads on a longer but manageable ascent through the beautiful Resciesa forest.
At the fork, turn left and continue on trail no. 10 up to the Resciesa Hut at 2,170 m. This is the perfect spot to take a break, breathe in the fresh mountain air, and admire the stunning Dolomite scenery. Refreshed, the trail continues upward to the summit cross, the highlight of the hike, where you are rewarded with breathtaking panoramic views over the Eisack Valley and the surrounding peaks.

Accessible by the bus line 350 from Bolzano or 360 from Bressanone to the S. Antonio square. Accessible by the bus line 172 from Castelrotto to the S. Antonio square.

The valley station of the Resciesa funicolar is easily reached by foot from the center of Ortisei, taking the escalators from the S. Antonio square and walking through the tunnel to the Seceda cablecar. From here, follow the signs to Reciesa, going through Via Roma and turning left on Via Sneton. As you arrive at the road crossing, turn right on Via Resciesa to see the valley station of the funicolar.
