Hiking

Panoramic hike from the Lake Antholz to the Staller Saddle

Niederrasen/Rasun di Sotto, Rasen-Antholz/Rasun Anterselva, Dolomites Region Kronplatz/Plan de Corones
Scenic hike from Lake Antholz to Staller Saddle with refreshment stops.
from center

This beautiful hike leads from the idyllic Lake Antholz through shaded forest and well-marked trails up to Staller Saddle (2,052 m), the mountain pass to Austria. Along the way, you are rewarded with stunning views of the emerald-green lake and the surrounding peaks of the Rieserferner group.

At Staller Saddle, several refreshment stops such as Hexeneggele or the Restaurant Obersee, located at the picturesque Lake Obersee, invite you to take a break. Those who wish to continue can reach additional alpine huts and scenic highlights within a short distance.

This tour is ideal for those looking for a scenic hike with outstanding panoramic views.

Itinerary

The starting point is Lake Antholz (approx. 1,640 m) at the biathlon centre. From here, follow the path along the left side of the lake.

At the far end of the lake, take trail no. 11, which ascends gently through shaded forest. The well-marked trail is varied and offers beautiful views of the lake and surrounding mountains, leading up to Staller Saddle (2,052 m) at the Austrian border.

At the pass, the Hexeneggele invites you to stop for a break. Continuing for about 200 metres, you reach the picturesque Lake Obersee with the Obersee Alpine Inn, also a great place to rest. A short walk around the lake is highly recommended.

Extension
From Staller Saddle or Lake Obersee, the hike can be extended to nearby alpine huts such as Ausserweger Alm hut or Hinterpassler Hut (trail no. 113, approx. 20 minutes, almost flat).

Alternative route:
A more challenging option leads via Steinzger Alm hut (serviced) and Obere Steinzger Alm hut to the “2 Lakes View” and further to Vogelgrand peak, before descending to Staller Saddle (longer and more demanding variant).

Return along the same route back to Lake Antholz.

Distance 5.1 Km

Details
Comfortable hiking shoes, weather-appropriate clothing, and sufficient water are recommended. Due to the open sections, sun protection is also advisable.
The combination of a hike and a stop at Staller Saddle or Lake Obersee is especially enjoyable. If you have some extra time, consider adding the short loop around the lake – an additional highlight of this tour.
