With this itinerary you hike around the whole Sassolungo group and can therefore get to know the landmark of Val Gardena from all perspectives.
Itinerary
From the starting point in S. Cristina you take the chairlifts Monte Pana and Mont de Sëura. From the starting point Selva Gardena you take the cable car Ciampinoi. At the top station of Mont Sëura (2117 m) the hike begins in the direction of the Comici Hut (526B + 528 + 526). From the Ciampinoi mountain station (2254 m) the hike also starts in the direction of the Comici Hut (21 + 21A+ 526). Here begins one of the most beautiful sections of the tour: the Stone City (526), through which you will reach the Passo Sella. Passing the Friedrich August Hut and the Sandro Pertini Hut you follow the Friedrich August path (557) up to the Plattkofel Hut. Here you can enjoy a wonderful view over the Seiser Alm, the biggest high alpine pasture in Europe. Directly below the Sassolungo the return path leads to the Mont de Sëura (527 + 526 + 526B) and to the Ciampinoi (527 + 526 + 21A + 21).
This route does not present any particular safety risks.
At the beginning of the summer season, some sections may still be snow-covered, depending on weather conditions. Please enquire about conditions before setting off on your hike.
It is best to always have good hiking boots and a windbreaker with you. You should also pack a drink, snack and sun protection in your rucksack.
The "Città dei Sassi" Italian for Stone City at the foot of the Sassolungo mountain near Passo Sella is characteristic for its boulders, which were created by a rock fall and is part of this impressive hike.
Bus to the bus stop S. Cristina Municipio/Rathaus , then ascent with the Monte Pana chairlift or by foot via hiking trail no. 30 (approx. 45 min).
The hike starts from Monte Pana in S. Crisitina, which you can reach by taking the chairlift Monte Pana from the centre of S. Cristina (free car park at the valley station). You can reach Monte Pana also by private car (chargeable car park) or by foot (approx. 40 min and 200 m of elevation).

Car park at the starting point: Monte Pana P1 & P2 (chargeable). Alternative: Bus or car to the valley station of the Monte Pana lift and ascent with the lift.
