The winter hike across the frozen Lake Antholz is one of the most remarkable winter experiences in the Antholz Valley. Once the lake has completely frozen over and is officially declared safe, visitors have the unique opportunity to experience the snow-covered landscape directly on the ice.
Surrounded by the impressive peaks of the Rieserferner Group, the lake offers spectacular panoramic views and a truly magical winter atmosphere. The snow-covered lake creates a wonderful sense of peace and open space, making this walk an unforgettable nature experience.
Several cozy mountain inns and cafés along the lakeshore invite you to warm up and enjoy a relaxing break. This winter hike is ideal for families, nature lovers, and anyone wishing to experience the beauty of winter at a leisurely pace.
IMPORTANT: Walking on the lake is only permitted when it has been officially opened and the ice conditions are confirmed to be safe.
The hike starts at the parking area of the Biathlon Centre at Lake Antholz. Shortly before the hotel Antholzer Wildsee Haus, the marked winter hiking trail branches off to the right.
When ice conditions are safe and the lake has been officially opened, the route continues across the frozen lake. Please stay on the marked and approved paths at all times and follow the information signs on site.
Alternatively, a groomed winter hiking trail runs alongside the road on the right-hand side of the lake. From here, you can also enjoy magnificent views of Lake Antholz and the surrounding mountain scenery.
Several restaurants and cafés directly by the lake offer the perfect place to take a relaxing break.
Take bus line 431 from the Olang-Antholz train station to reach Lake Antholz, the starting point of the winter hike.

From the Pustertal Valley Road turn into the Antholz Valley and follow the road to Lake Antholz.
