During this varied winter hike, you reach several idyllic mountain farmsteads while also immersing yourself deeply in the history of Val Gardena. The route leads through a snow-covered cultural landscape and combines a nature experience with fascinating insights into traditional rural life of the past. Along the way, clearly designed information panels provide details on the origin, use and development of the individual farmsteads.
A particularly interesting section is the “Troi de Frëines”. Here, you can learn more about the history of the Insom landslide as well as about local bird species, depicted in finely crafted wooden sculptures created by local artists and accompanied by informative panels. Several viewpoints with panoramic maps round off the winter hike, making it an impressive journey of discovery through nature, history and culture.
Starting from the Dosses Square in S. Cristina, take bus no. 358 to the Cristauta bus stop, where the shortened winter version of this hike begins.
At the bus stop, follow the road on the right-hand side of the information boards. At the next junction, turn right (path no. 4).
After about 350 metres, the winter hike begins along the new "Troi de Frëines" path no. 4B.
Then follow path no. 1B in the direction of Plesdinaz past the Paratoni, Crëpa and Fussel farms. You then return to the village centre via the Plesdinaz road.
You will come to several well-preserved mountain farms in S. Cristina, offering you a glimpse of a farmer’s life in Val Gardena.
