Hike from Rabland to Aschbach

Partschins/Parcines, Meran/Merano and environs
Moderate hike from Rabland to Aschbach on trail 28, featuring viewpoints and local highlights. Return by cable car.
from center

This moderately challenging hike links Rabland with the mountain hamlet of Aschbach, combining forest scenery, viewpoints and authentic rural culture. The cable car descent makes the return easy and adds a spectacular finale to the day.

Itinerary

Starting point

Rabland, Saringer Bridge (alternative: Rabland train station)

Destination

Aschbach

Saringer Bridge Rabland – Aschbach cable car – Laterne restaurant/pizzeria – trail 28 – Niedereben organic farm – Roppnkoufl viewpoint – Aschbach

The walk starts at the Saringer Bridge in Rabland (alternatively at Rabland train station). From here, the route passes the Aschbach cable car and the Laterne restaurant/pizzeria, then follows trail 28 uphill. The path leads through attractive woodland and opens up to several viewpoint spots along the way.

One of the early highlights is the Niedereben organic farm, known for its farm-gate shop selling locally produced organic goods. Continuing on trail 28, you reach the well-known viewpoint and rest area “Roppnkoufl”, perfect for a break.

The ascent continues steadily until you arrive at the mountain hamlet of Aschbach, with outstanding views and a strong sense of traditional South Tyrolean life: typical farmhouses, mountain meadows, and the Sacred Heart of Jesus Church as well as the Maria Schnee Chapel.

For the return, take the Aschbach cable car back down—an unforgettable ride with panoramic views over the Vinschgau Valley and the Merano basin.
