On Sunday, August 17, Selva di Val Gardena invites you to an enchanting candlelight concert. In the charming Town Hall Square, inside a pavilion, the Candle Notes performance will feature a talented pianist surrounded by flickering candles, creating a magical and intimate atmosphere. From 9:00 PM to 10:00 PM, let yourself be carried away by a medley of emotions in the heart of the Dolomites.

Lantern festival at the entrance to the Val Gardena railway tunnel with the clown duo Herbert and Mimi. The clowns are two lovingly developed characters who tell their stories in a lively and cheeky way and make you laugh. Herbert and Mimi are home alone. They should actually be asleep. But the sandman has left again, and to get tired, the two of them play a game. And then another game. And discover the joy of winning and the sorrow of losing. And suddenly nothing is as it should be. Total chaos. But with the help of the audience, Herbert and Mimi make their way through the chaos so that the world is back in order. Afterwards, the children receive a lantern for the lantern parade.

The Barbian Band, from the lower Eisack Valley, is one of the oldest musical ensembles in South Tyrol. Founded in 1810, it boasts a rich history spanning more than two centuries. Today, the band includes 46 active musicians and is conducted by Harald Zemmer and led by president Markus Gantioler. A particularly striking feature of the ensemble is its strong generational diversity: about one-third of its members are under the age of 16, highlighting the importance of youth and the continued passing down of musical traditions. Look forward to a lively concert filled with passion and heritage – where tradition and future meet in harmony.

The top 20 photos will be featured in an open-air exhibition in Selva di Val Gardena from August 21 to August 29, 2025, along Via Meisules and at Nives Square. There will also be an audience prize: The photo with the most votes during the exhibition will win a voucher worth €200.

After the musical evening you can taste desserts made by Val Gardena farmers. Everyday life in Val Gardena is umbued with ancient traditions. Together with the Ladin language and craftsmanship, the local folk costume is at the very heart of Val Gardena culture.

On March 23, South Tyrol marked the 50th anniversary of a major sporting event that brought the region into the international spotlight: the legendary Ski World Cup Final in Val Gardena. This race set new standards and captured attention across Europe for a sport that had rarely been experienced with such intensity—either before or since. At the heart of the event were two of the greatest names in skiing: Gustav Thöni and Ingemar Stenmark, who were battling for the overall World Cup title. For South Tyrol’s athlete of the century, Gustav Thöni, this memorable duel ended in a triumphant victory. To commemorate this historic race, a roundtable discussion with ski legends Thöni and Stenmark will take place on August 28. The event, held at the Luis Trenker Cultural Center in Ortisei, offers a unique opportunity to look back on the legendary final and relive the highlights of that extraordinary chapter in skiing history.

Unique handmade objects! Craftsmen and artists bring their creations directly from wood, ceramics, fabric, leather, pressed flowers and many other materials! Each object is made directly by the craftsman who offers it for sale!

There will be a mushroom exhibition on S. Antonio Square together with the expert mycologist Claudio Rossi. The exhibition is organized by the "Carabinieri Association Section Valgardena". Visitors will be offered a taste of mushrooms prepared by this Section.

Upcycling Band – Sustainable and Creative Music The Upcycling Band is a fascinating ensemble of four professional percussionists and multi-instrumentalists from the Trentino-South Tyrol region. The group represents all three linguistic communities of the region – German, Italian, and Ladin – and uses music as a universal form of communication. In the spirit of sustainability, they play exclusively on instruments and sound objects handcrafted by Max Castlunger, all made from repurposed materials. This not only creates a unique sound experience but also adds a striking visual element to their performances. Their music is inspired by various global musical traditions, taking the audience on a journey to distant lands. On stage, they use over 50 original instruments, all crafted from recycled materials and capable of producing unexpected sounds. The band has performed at numerous prestigious events, including the Sustainability Days in Bolzano, the 10th Bavarian CSR Day in Munich, the Ambria Jazz Festival, the Sella Ronda Hero, Runkelstein Castle, the Euregio Cultural Center Grand Hotel Toblach, the 2nd Festival of Regions in Turin, the House of Museums in Olten (CH), the Thurgau Nature Museum (CH), the Basel Historical Music Museum (CH), and many more. Their performances are a remarkable example of creativity and sustainability in music.

Since 1994, UNIKA has served as a premier platform for sculpture, painting, and photography by local and regional artists. Each year, UNIKA artists present their works at a variety of events, fairs, and exhibitions – most notably the acclaimed UNIKA Art Fair and the biennial Idea Unika – Art in the Centre. The UNIKA Art Fair proudly looks back on 31 successful years. During this time, over a hundred artists have showcased their work to a discerning and art-loving audience. A particular highlight was the anniversary edition in 2019, which featured internationally renowned artists such as Aron Demetz, Peter Demetz, Bruno Walpoth, Gregor Prugger, and Wilhelm Senoner. From September 11 to 14, 2025, the 31st edition of the UNIKA Art Fair will take place in the tennis hall of Ortisei-Runggaditsch. Sculptors, painters, photographers, and woodturners will present more than 200 unique and diverse artworks. The exhibition is open daily from 10:00 AM to 7:00 PM. The fair will be officially opened with a vernissage on September 10, 2025, while Unika’s Long Night will take place on September 13 – an inspiring evening celebrating art, atmosphere, and human connection.

All four Dolomite passes around the Sella massif (Passo Gardena, Passo Campolongo, Passo Pordoi and passo Sella) are closed from 8.30 a.m. to 4.00 p.m. to motor vehicles on this day, leaving the roads entirely free to cyclists. A unique chance to enjoy the freedom of these Alpine roads on your bicycle. Participation is open to everybody and completely free of charge. Start is at the Nives Square in Selva Val Gardena.

On September 21st, the traditional Matië market takes place in Ortisei. If 21 September falls on a Sunday, the market takes place on Saturday.

33 artists from Val Gardena will exhibit in different stores of Ortisei their piece of art from September 20 to November 2, 2025. The respective works will be on display in the shop windows or in the stores. A jury of experts will award prizes for the best design. In addition, a public prize will also be awarded for the most beautiful installation and all customers of the participating stores may participate in a raffle with great value vouchers. The prizes are kindly sponsored by Raiffeisen Gherdëina. "Shop & Art Urtijëi" should be seen above all as an opportunity to strengthen cooperation and networking between these two traditional economy branches. Through this project, the aim is to make Ortisei better known as an open-air shopping center and as an artists' village.

It is probably the most beautiful pilgrimage across the whole Alpine region: when autumn is at its most colourful, on the second Sunday in October, the villagers of Ortisei go up to the Chapel of San Giacomo. The location itself is heavenly: the chapel and the visitors look out across the Sassolungo from a spot on the steep mountain forest. From here, the mountain comes across like a cathedral of nature. Blessed as one is after a view like this, on Monday go to the traditional Segra Sacun market. Here it's all about the more earthly delights. The whole pedestrian zone is a lively market square, where walking through can be a bit difficult at times. Culinary delights, craftsmanship, carved and painted, are on offer. Another old tradition takes place in the market place: men ripe for marriage will buy a pear at the market, which they will decorate with a ribbon and give as a present to their chosen one. During Easter the following year, the woman has to give the man Easter eggs. Important: the man cannot forget to pick up the eggs if he wants to win his woman over.

Every year after the village festival in St. Jacob, on Monday the market "Segra Sacun" will be held in the pedestrian area of Ortisei. The “Segra Sacun” market is the largest market of the year, which is filled with numerous stands that offer culinary delights and craft products. According to an ancient tradition, girls and women, on the occasion of this day, will be gifted with decorated pears as a sign of sympathy and love.
