In Val Gardena, the valley renowned for its long-standing woodcarving tradition, the Nativity scene is one of the most cherished and lovingly maintained Christmas customs. On Christmas Eve, the Baby Jesus is placed in the simple manger, while the Three Wise Men traditionally arrive only on January 6th. At the Cultural centre “Luis Trenker” in Ortisei, an exhibition featuring over 40 hand-carved Nativity scenes from Val Gardena showcases the remarkable variety and craftsmanship of local woodcarvers.

During an evening torchlight hike on the Art and Nature Trail “Troi UNIKA”, Diego Deiana explains the centuries-old craftmanship of Val Gardena as well as the displayed works. The torchlight makes the nine stations particularly atmospheric. In this way art and nature blend harmoniously into each other.

Val Gardena is a paradise for skiers regardless of their level: newbies and passionate amateur skiers spend their holidays in the valley. However, for a few days a year, the skiing slopes of Dolomites Val Gardena attract the creme de la creme of skiing. And you, as our guests, will have the opportunity of following the skiing stars live from the edge of the slopes as they battle for a place on the podium of the FIS World Cup.

The history of the World Cup in Dolomites Val Gardena goes back to the 1970s. The Saslong slope is one of the most beautiful and well-known stages of the world cup, what with its famous and feared ‘camel hump’ and speeds of up to 100 km an hour. The Ski World Cup took place in 1970 in Dolomites Val Gardena, among other places; on that occasion the whole skiing world set its eyes on the Saslong slope. Women and men took part in dozens and dozens of races on the slope as well as on the region’s other famous slopes: Ronc, Ciampinoi and Cir. Today, a super-G and a men’s downhill race take place in Dolomites Val Gardena once a year.

Local celebrities and international legends fulfilled their dream of one day being the winner of the FIS ski World Cup in Dolomites Val Gardena. Among the winners of the downhill we have known skiers such as Peter Müller, Rob Boyd, Michael Walchhofer and Kristian Ghedina.

The snow sculpture of the Holy Family is located below the parish church of Selva di Val Gardena.
It was carved entirely out of snow by artists Ivo and his son Damian Piazza in four days, from 6 to 9 December.

The exhibition “Garejedes de schi te Gherdëina” presents the history of ski races in Val Gardena through archival photos and documents. From 13 December 2025 to 15 January 2026 at the Tublà da Nives, Selva di Val Gardena.

Even before the usual opening time, you take the Seceda cabin lift to reach the altitude of 2.500 m, where the first rays of sunshine will dive the Sassolungo Group into a magical light. With snowshoes to the Seiser Alm: an alpine tour accompanied by a guide of the Catores group takes you from Monte Pana to the largest high plateau in Europe - the Seiser Alm. Founded in 1927, the Hockey Club Gherdëina is one of the most historic ice hockey clubs in South Tyrol. With its red and blue colors and the Pranives arena in Selva Val Gardena as its home, the team has embodied passion and tradition on the ice for nearly a century. Competing in the Alps Hockey League (AHL), the team faces strong opponents in thrilling games filled with speed, intensity, and excitement. Accompanied by a local hiking guide, you take the bus from Monte Pana. From there, you immerse yourself in the magical and tranquil mountain world of the Seiser Alm. After a rich lunch, there is the possibility to hike or to ride a sleigh down to Saltria. From there, you take the bus back to the starting point.
