Or I might get stuck on the street and go on a cruise with my mum tomorrow.’ The only question that really interests Martin Frank at the moment is whether Mozart even knows about the bullets. One thing is certain: Martin Frank sings an Italian aria that is likely to remind many in the audience of a forceps delivery. But he risks the number because he believes, ‘Either you like me and we spend a nice evening together, or you don't like me and send me your mother-in-law.’ Whichever way you look at it, it's probably really up to him.

Is that a promise or a threat? Whenever Tina Teubner comes on stage, she is never alone. Tina Teubner's excessive, emotional outbursts are not only a delight for those in committed relationships, but also for those who are searching and want to know what to expect. The 59-year-old certainly has a wealth of experience when it comes to relationships. She discovers the comedy in drama and the abysmal in comedy, shaking her audience awake with songs, cabaret and mischief. Tina Teubner has tested all of this with and on her husband and is convinced that this is the only reason she has been showered with awards. To name a few: twice the German Cabaret Award, the German Cabaret Prize and the 2024 Salzburger Stier. When Tina promises or threatens, ‘If you leave me, I'll come with you,’ the world changes a little. Ben has to work on himself, and the audience gets to watch.

An exciting journey into the heart of theatre, combining music, storytelling and reflection to introduce students to the magic of the stage and the great themes of opera. Rigoletto intertwines Verdi's drama with the life of a travelling theatre company, transforming each performance into a collective ritual of emotions and truths. With few props, skilful lighting and intense performances, it reveals the boundary between reality and fiction, offering a glimpse into theatre work, stage machinery and behind the scenes. The viewing is accompanied by a reflection on the themes of the opera: the father-daughter relationship, sacrifice for love, disguise, and the desire for transformation. A reading of the female role is also central, to educate students in respect and empathy. An interdisciplinary experience designed to stimulate curiosity and critical thinking.

Deep in the desolate lands of Hell. A calm and eternal day of agonizing torture. Suddenly, a raucous barking breaks the silence it's the devils, running wildly back and forth in search of their king, the dreadful Satan. Along the banks of the Styx, countless souls have arrived, suddenly swept away by a lightning-fast, murderous, cowardly plague of boils and pox. The underworld is suddenly clogged, and Minos, the merciless judge of souls, must perform superhuman feats to assess everyone's sins. Everything grinds to a halt when Beelzebub, with great wisdom, steps in: he offers three jesters Zuan Polo, Domenico Tagliacalze, and Pietro Gonnella a reduced sentence, allowing them to return to what they did best in life: entertaining. The show draws from the ancient art of the jester the quintessential entertainer, the most devoted worshipper of satire and mockery. Since time immemorial, comedians have been both terrified of and drawn to Hell. It’s inevitable: the underworld is the final destination for those willing to do anything for a laugh. Hell and its sulfurous jailers form the foundation of folk traditions and the tales of wandering storytellers. It holds within it both the high and the low, the tragic and the grotesque. "We tried to explore, between the late Middle Ages and the Renaissance, some examples of infernal tales earthy, foul-smelling tracts," writes Stivalaccio Teatro, a company known for its unmistakable and irresistible reinterpretation of the Commedia dell’arte. "These episodes are told by three performers or rather, jesters, comedians, outcasts people willing to do anything to bring laughter. They make use of the jester's craft, that 15th-century mastery which later gave rise to the great tradition of Commedia actors. Strange characters, short tales, grotesque disguises, bizarre songs, demonic masks, and improvisations." The funeral service for Gernot Steinfels, head of the company "Feinwäsche Steinfels", who died at the age of 94, gets completely out of hand. His successor-to-be, Horst Bohne, planned everything meticulously. The text on the ribbon for the funeral wreath "In deep mourning. Your employees" doesn't work at all, according to marketing manager Alina Bergreiter and social media expert Kevin Packert in unison. Because where are the employees? One of them is the long-time secretary Rieke Schneider, who absolutely wants to sing at the funeral service. Intern Kim Olkowski has problems with the funeral saying "Only work was your life" because it "somehow stands for a totally toxic work-life balance". And whether Horst Bohne should become managing director at all must also be put to the test. It is no wonder that even Pastor Herbert Koch loses his nerve at such a funeral service. The comedy full of twists and turns dissects the abysses, pitfalls and rhetorical tricks of the current discussion about social etiquette with relishful devotion. The opening evening kicks off the Stier weekend and presents the audience in the hall and on the radio with a full-length cabaret programme, this time featuring three renowned ‘state artists’. The trio can be described as a kind of supergroup of Austrian cabaret: Florian Scheuba, Thomas Maurer and Robert Palfrader.
Already established soloists and good friends in private, they joined forces in 2010 to take to the stage with an original mix of hard satire, topical investigative research, playful acting and a love of high-brow nonsense.
It all began with a television show on ORF, which is no longer in production. All the more reason to experience the trio live. For the Stier Gala on 22 May 2026 in Merano, the state artists have put together their own exclusive programme and broken through Austrian borders. After all, the evening will be broadcast from the Kurhaus Merano in four countries and 10 broadcasting areas, from Vienna to Basel, from Bolzano to Berlin.

Bodo Wartke (Germany) – German prize winner:
Rhyming culture with brains, heart, and humor. Did Antigone visit Barbara's rhubarb bar? Were there false horses in the ark? We don't know – but in Bodo Wartke's cosmos, anything is possible. He has recently devoted himself to tongue twisters, publishing over 50 of them to date. His rhyming extravaganza “Barbaras Rhabarberbar” has long since become a cult hit around the globe, and in 2025 he even published a book full of twisted verbal acrobatics. An artist who proves that linguistic wit can resonate with both the head and the heart.

Sonja Pikart (A) - Austrian award winner:
Born in Germany and now living in Vienna, Sonja Pikart is many things: actress, cabaret artist, biologist in a former life – and above all, a keen observer of human (and inhuman) idiosyncrasies. Her current solo show “Halb Mensch” (Half Human) takes the audience into a future where AI has taken over the world. Dystopia meets disco, science fiction meets self-irony. Pikart asks the big questions: What makes us human? Are we replaceable – or are we unique precisely because of our imperfections? She always remains charming, quick-witted, and damn funny.

Markus Schönholzer (CH) - Swiss prize winner:
Markus Schönholzer sums up life in a nutshell – intelligently, humorously, and deeply movingly. In his current program, “Die Schönholzers,” he sings about motherly love, fatherly expectations, and the little tragicomedy of everyday life. His songs are moving without being sentimental; they are clever and full of silliness, exaggerated and over-the-top, yet so close to everyday life.

A spa town, having awakened from years of a Sleeping Beauty-like slumber, invites guests to the grand opening of a new thermal bath — an event expected to draw press representatives from across the globe. In the play The Silence of the City, this seemingly local occasion becomes a stage for world theatre, where the spotlight falls on the most pressing questions of our time. Anyone who doesn't laugh at this performance — with its historical costumes from the Belle Époque — may well have lost the ability to laugh altogether.
