    The invigorating air and magical autumn colours of the South Tyrolean forests invite guests to enjoy a lively stroll in Törggelen country, where chestnuts and wine have been cultivated since before the custom began.

    This hike goes through both the Monte Corno Natural Park, a scenic jewel rich in flora and fauna, and across the slopes of South Tyrol´s Bassa Atesina. This is where the idyllic villages of Gleno and Casignano can be found. You can enjoy a wonderful view of Castelfeder, the Adige Valley, the Mendola range of mountains and Lake Caldaro to as far away as the mountains above Merano.

    You can reach the Locher restaurant going along trail no. 33a. Walk along trail no. 5 and you will come to the Kreuzerweiher Lake. From here, follow trail no. 6 until you reach the Altenberg/Flak belvedere. Walk along trails no. 11 and no. 5 to come back to the Messner restaurant and then continue on trail no. 5 and 9 until you reach Bozen. You will get to the old Gries parish church. Duration of the excursion: 3 hours and 05 minutes - Drop/rise: 306m 1,000m

    Colle/Kohlern: To the biotope Totes Moos and beyond!

    From the playground, follow the E5 path towards Colle dei Signori/Herrenkohlern, from where you can admire a wonderful 180° panorama that sweeps from the Mendola/Mendel to San Genesio/Jenesien, the Forcella Sarentina/Sarner Scharte and the Corno del Renon/Rittner Horn. The little church dedicated to St. Mary was built in 1744. Pass the houses and walk along the forest road following the trail E5 to the Totes Moos biotope. Continue in the direction of Wölflhof, where you can take a break and eat local specialities and traditional dishes. Then take trail no. 2 through old forests in the direction of Bauer im Walde. Follow the path to Röllhof and from there take trail no. 8 back to Colle dei Signori/Herrenkohlern and then return to the cable car along the E5.

    From Hotel Ziggler follow the steep slope through vineyards (signs). At high altitude a country road leads northward to Scezze. Follow the asphalted road downhill, at the last house you will find the return path (starts with steps). When you reach the Kuenhof farm in the vineyards below, follow the path to the right of the state road to return to Hotel Ziggler, the starting point.

    The Chestnut Trail from the Neustift monastery near Brixen to Terlan
    Natz-Schabs/Naz-Sciaves, Brixen/Bressanone and environs

    The Keschtnweg Chestnut Trail from the Neustift Monastery (560 m) to Terlan/Terlano (250 m) runs along the right bank of the Eisacktal Valley. It is in autumn, at the time of the Törggelen, that the trail is at its most eye-catching and many taverns and inns along the way offer traditional Törggelen dishes. The lush, diverse vegetation and simple, rural way of life also attracts visitors in spring and early summer.

    Vineyards Route near Bressanone/Brixen
    Brixen/Bressanone, Brixen/Bressanone and environs

    The starting point for the vineyard trail is in the center of Bressanone/Brixen (refreshments available) at the Adlerbrücke. Follow trail no. 1 through the Stufels district, first via Kranebitt (refreshments available) up to Elvas (refreshments available). Here continue through the Mooswald forest to the Raiermoos biotope and on trail no. 6 via Hochrain to the Strasserhof farm (refreshments available in autumn). Continue on trail no. 4 between vineyards and the typical dry stone walls down to the well-known Neustift monastery (refreshments available). From here head south on trail no. 16 back to Bressanone/Brixen. There is no shortage of places to stop along the way, especially in the fall it is charming to visit one of the rustic Buschenschänke.

    The vineyard path is easy to walk and also brisk, much worth seeing transforms this hike, but without further ado into a day trip. Already at the starting point, the narrow medieval streets of Stufels are fascinating. Once you have conquered the first meters of altitude, you can enjoy a magnificent view over the Bressanone basin from the Wetterkreuz near Elvas. Nature lovers will be delighted by the diversity of the Raiermoos biotope, as well as the centuries-old vineyards on the slopes above Neustift. Wines from these same vineyards can also be tasted directly at the Neustift monastery before heading back towards Brixen.

    This marked trail leads through colourful mixed woodland in South Tyrol, across lush green meadows and along magnificent avenues of trees - a truly special way to experience nature. A continuous band of chestnut trees stretches from Varna/Vahrn near Bressanone/Brixen along the slopes of the Eisacktal valley as far as the Renon/Ritten high plateau and down into the Bolzano/Bozen valley basin. The hiking trail should not only be thought of as a route for the autumn, as the varied vegetation makes it a delightful route for all seasons.

    You can also buy regional produce directly from local producers along the Chestnut Trail (Keschtnweg). Natural and manmade features along the Chestnut Trail bear witness to a centuries-old culture, while local villages shrouded in myth are full of tales of witches, fairies and ghosts.

    Renon/Ritten: Chestnut Trail Bolzano-Unterinn
    Bolzano/Bozen, Bolzano/Bozen and environs

    A line of chestnut groves extends from the abbey of Novacella/Neustift near Bressanone/Brixen all along the slopes of the Isarco Valley as far as the high plateau of the Rittner and down into the Bolzano/Bozen valley as far as Runkelstein castle with its fabled frescoes: the ideal route for the “Keschtnweg”. It should not only be thought of as an Autumn excursion though, because the landscape is extremely attractive all year round thanks to the diverse vegetation of the area.

    First stage with starting point in Bolzano Bozen: from Roncolo castle to Auna di Sotto-Unterinn on the highplateau of Renon-Ritten

    From the castle choose the way n. 2 and than follow the n. 2A until the cross path with the n. 6. Continue on the n. 6 until Signato-Signat and than proceed along the way n. 13 until the destination, Auna di Sotto-Unterinn.

    At the bottom of the Gantkofel the Eppaner Castle triangle is located. On the art-historic walking tour you get an impression of the mediaeval South Tyrol. The walking tour to the castles takes you to the Castle Triangle. First you reach the Castle Hocheppan, which is one of the most important fortifications of SouthTyrol. After a visit as well as refreshment at the Castle tavern the hike continues to the ruin Boymont. A little bit underneath Castle Korb is located, which derived from the Roman époque and is now a hotel.

    The Völser Aicha Höfeweg farm trail is a beautiful hiking route through ancient farmsteads, mountain restaurants, vineyards and chestnut groves. This trail can be seen in all its glorious beauty in springtime when the mountain meadows are blossoming all around, and in autumn when the trees are decked in vibrant hues.

    At Castle Prösels, you can take a trip back into the Middle Ages on a guided tour of the   Knights’ Hall, the castle chapel and other parts of the Renaissance castle and grounds.

    The new theme path provides an insight into viniculture and wine history and spans an arc between agriculture and gastronomy. Different information panels describe local grape varieties, landscape and culinary specialties. The Val Venosta wine path is perfectly walkable from Easter to November and takes you along the irrigation channel paths (Latschander irrigation channel path and Senales irrigation channel path) over long distances. This hike of about 2.5 hours can be made in both directions and it is also possible to choose specific sections only.

    The Wine Trail is layed out in the form of an "8" and takes you from the village centre, down to the lake and back – past wine vineyards, farms and estates. You will see some of the age-old poetic vineyard names, which date back to either Rhaetian or Romantic origins: "Vial", "Prunar", "Puntara", "Palurisch" …

    From the swimming pool in Chiusa/Klausen, you walk along the main road to the crossroads for Velturno/Feldthurns. Follow the marked Wine Trail (Weinwanderweg), first along the road and then through the Leitach vineyards past various wineries up to the Hienghof farm and from there back down to the swimming pool. On the way you will get a fascinating insight into winegrowing in the Eisacktal valley and learn about the different varieties of grape.

    The tavern Bergjosl is located 600 meters above Terlan, but already belongs to the municipality of Mölten. The turnoff to the mountain restaurant is located halfway between Terlan and Mölten. The Mair family, owners of this Buschenschank, is supervising as well the only forest cemetery for animals in South Tyrol.

    For used hikers this tour can start at the center of Terlan by walking along the Kirchgasse until reaching its end. Here you can find the last farm „Klaus in der Mühle" with its old mill. On the right starts the path to the weather cross (no. 3 A). You will reach the street to Mölten in front of the subway; take the way on the left and turn emediately right, in order to not pass the subway. From here take the left path after the second bend.

    An other version of this way would be along the Weiler „Montigl" – „Grunerhof" and then through the scottish pine wood along rock faces to a panoramic view point. From here you can already see the "Buschenschank Bergjosl" and you reach it on a firstly slight descending path then go right.

    Walking time: about 2.5 hours

    Starting point: Town Hall Square. Via Schneckenthaler Straße to St. Anna Nursing Home. Immediately after, turn left following the sign "Hiking Trail Kastelaz" up to the forest road. This leads first slightly uphill and then gently downhill through sparse mixed forest for 3 km to the neighboring village of Kurtatsch. In 2024, 5 new play stations for children were built. Right at the beginning of the hiking trail, children can now whizz down a rapid slide. A few steps ahead, a wooden snake invites balancing. Followed by a swing, a climbing igloo, and at the rest area "Bödala," a cable car. Right at the first houses of Kurtatsch, we reach via the less traveled panoramic road above the Wine Road via Rungg back to Tramin. (Opportunities to stop for food in Kurtatsch and at the Hofschank zur Pergola in Rungg, closed on Wednesdays).
