Numerous easy, but also challenging hiking trails that lead to traditional huts start directly at the top station.
Cable cars and chair lifts take you quickly and easily from the valley to lofty heights, even in summer. Here you can find the summer opening times of South Tyrol's lifts.
It's a mere seven-minute ride on South Tyrol's largest ropeway to what the locals lovingly call the sun deck of Merano – that's award-winning architecture and sustainable mobility fused into one of the most cutting-edge ropeway systems in the Alps.
With services running every 15 minutes, each cabin can carry up to 120 passengers (plus one cabin attendant) from the city right to the doorstep of the skiing and hiking resort of Merano 2000 – at an altitude of 2,000 m above sea-level.

Within a few minutes, the Hirzer aerial tram takes you 1.500 m higher, right to the heart of one of the most amazing hiking areas in the Merano disctrict. From the Klammeben top station, located almost 2.000 m above sea level, you can oversee the sunny Hirzer plateau with its network of hiking trails that meets all preferences: you may choose a lovely and relaxing walk to an alpine inn just as a demanding high alpine hiking tour to the top of the Hirzer-Cervina or one of the many other mountain peaks within range.
The four-seater chairlift "Sonnklar" takes you up to the mountain ridge, reaching the highest point of the ski area Speikboden at 2400m. Directly at the exit of the lift there is an viewing tower with photo point: 360° panorama with 150 peaks and more than 80 three-thousanders. Enjoy the wonderful view on the Dolomites with the Tre Cime di Lavaredo/Drei Zinnen, on the Zillertaler Alps, on the Durreck-group. The descent on the slope from Sonnklar to the valley station is a thrilling experience, given the difference in height of 1,500 meters - the largest of all ski areas in South Tyrol.
In summer the top station of the chairlift is a popular starting point for many hikes. The summit cross Sonnklar can be reached in a few minutes - the Speikboden summit can be reached in about 40 minutes.
The majestic Hochjochferner glacier lies along the border between Austria and Italy. The glacier cable car overcomes more than a thousand metres in altitude in six minutes and takes guests from Maso Corto up to 3,212 metres. Every year from September to May, winter sports enthusiasts hit the slopes at this world class 185-acre natural park. The glacier is equally suited to beginners and experienced skiers, as well as families. The real crowd pleaser is especially the 8 km long Schmuggler downhill slope leading into the valley.
Climbing up to the historic church of La Crusc / Santa Croce has become even more comfortable with the La Crusc 2 cable car. Now, even with uncertain weather, you can reach the iconic sanctuary while remaining dry and warm. And, thanks to the panoramic windows, you can admire the surrounding mountains. The La Crusc 2 cable car also allows the transport of bikes and, particularly important for families, strollers.
In winter, the La Crusc ski area is part of the Dolomiti Superski carousel, the largest ski carousel in the Alps.
From Versciaco, the gondola lift takes you up to the Monte Elmo mountain station. This is the ideal starting point for exploring the entire 3 Zinnen Dolomites ski area. In addition, numerous winter and snow-shoe hikes start there. All this with a wonderful view of the Sesto Sundial!
Cosy and nostalgic single chair lift which takes you from 1500 metres at 1814 metres. Enjoy the ride through the beautiful larch Woods and on the way back will experience breathtaking views of the Dolomites.
Telemix with heated seats
The Braia Fraida 4-seater chairlift connects Corvara with La Villa and San Cassiano. In winter you can access a number of sunny and medium difficulty slopes and in summer some soft hiking path. The lift is also suitable for bicycle transport.
A short trip across the enchanting Ratschingstal valley takes you to the bottom station of the Ratschings-Jaufen lift. Already during the comfortable ascent with the ultra-modern 8-seat cable car, you can admire the fantastic winter landscape around you that will make you look forward to a wonderful day of skiing. High above, at 2,150 m, you are already in the middle of pure snow fun.
This two-seater chairlift runs up to the Mittager peak at 2,260 m above sea level in both winter and summer. At the top, expect jaw-dropping panoramic views of the South Tyrolean mountains: The vistas of the famous Dolomite peaks in the distance are simply breath-taking.
The Mittager chairlift is open to pedestrians year-round.
The König Laurin I aerial tram starts from the Frommer Alm (at an altitude of 1,743 m) and takes skiers, hikers, bikers, and climbers first to the midway station (at 1,977 meters above sea-level) and then with the cableway König Laurin II to the new, invisible mountain station at the Cologne Hut (2,339 meters above sea-level). Upon arrival, you'll feel that you can almost reach out with your hand and touch the face of the "Rose Garden" cliffs, and you can enjoy the fascinating view of all of South Tyrol and the Latemar – declared a World Nature Heritage Site of the Dolomites by UNESCO. Each gondola features ten seats and, in the summer, can also be used to transport bicycles to the midway station.

The famous Alpine Coaster "Klausberg Flitzer", a summer toboggan run, which is unique to South Tyrol due to its length and steepness, has already made one or two break out in a cold sweat - the speed experience of 2 km at Klausberg, peppered with jumps and 360° spins.
The gondola lift for six people starts at the bottom station in St. Andrä and goes up to the mountain station in Kreuztal, rising almost 1000 metres in altitude. It is in operation in summer and winter and is the perfect starting point for the hiking and skiing area.
The König Laurin II aerial tram takes skiers, hikers, climbers, and alpine climbers to the new, invisible mountain station at the Cologne Hut (2,339 meters above sea-level). Upon arrival, you'll feel that you can almost reach out with your hand and touch the face of the "Rose Garden" cliffs, and you can enjoy the fascinating view of all of South Tyrol and the Latemar – declared a World Nature Heritage Site of the Dolomites by UNESCO. Each gondola features ten seats. Highlight: the new „invisible“ mountain station is an architecture project from Werner Tscholl.
From the Falzeben car park above the village of Avelengo, the Falzeben gondola lift runs all the way to the mountain station of the Merano 2000 ropeway at Pivigna.
On a quick and convenient ride to the peak, the gondola lift offers wonderful panoramic views of the surrounding landscapes of craggy peaks and deep valleys.
The 10-person gondola lift was taken into operation in 2016 and carries passengers in summer and winter from the village of Schihütte up to the Pfannspitz mountain.
The in 2017 newly built cable car on the left side of the valley leads to the high plateau Lazaun (2,430m).The new cable car traverses a change in altitude of 430 metres (1,400 feet) and can transport up to 1,980 passengers per hour. The 27 closed gondolas conveniently take skiers, tobogganers and winter hikers up to the Lazaun mountain station in just under four minutes. The mountain station lies at 2,430 metres (7,970 feet) above sea level and is the starting point of two ski slopes of intermediate difficulty covering a total distance of around 3.5 kilometres (2.2 miles) as well as a toboggan track of 3.3 kilometres (2 miles) in length.
Refreshment: The Lazaun mountain hut offers a giant sunny terrace.
