In an area of churches, castles, leafy promenades and historic mansions and villas, this particular little enclave was once a favourite holiday destination of Empress Elizabeth (Sissi) of Austria who came for the mild winter climate, hiking in the sun-kissed Dolomites, the ever-blooming gardens and the rejuvenating spa waters. Since those days nothing much has really changed and Merano is still a vibrant centre of intriguing local culture, festivals, parks, gardens, wide promenades and idyllic scenery.The Alpine vistas and views of the town can be well appreciated from one of the Salvatorian hotel's balcony rooms.
