The cattle return from the alpine pastures to the valley and Sesto celebrates! The cows in particular are elaborately decorated on their return from the alpine pastures: the leading cow and the cows that follow her wear wreaths decorated with sayings, images of saints and elaborate embroidery. The Almabtrieb is combined with a festival to celebrate the safe return of the animals.

From September 19 to 22, 2024, South Tyrol will be all about collecting garbage together at the SÜDTIROL CleanUP Days! The large-scale clean-up campaign is organized by the non-profit association Patron. The concept of the South Tyrol CleanUP Days is simple: in the participating South Tyrolean regions, many nature lovers set off in small groups to collect garbage in the mountains, forests, on lakeshores and in the communities - wherever garbage has been left behind. The participants not only experience the good feeling of doing something good for the environment, but also a special communal outdoor experience.
Sergio Sini was born in 1924 in Treviso where, from a very young age, he approached painting in order to express his love for nature, a companion in his stylistic pursuits. In this review are a selection of works ralized during his stays in Val Pusteria, and in particular in Villabassa.

Philipp and Stefan Santifaller, an up-and-coming photographer duo from Brixen, present a selection of their photographs with spectacular impressions from Iceland and New Zealand as well as a single piece from their series ‘The Glacier's End’. While the two countries are practically diametrically opposed on the globe, the photographers have also found counterpoints in their images that lend the exhibition as a whole an exciting dynamic.
Many areas of the Dolomites are in the process of setting up projects to enhance the historical testimony of the Great War. Sesto di Pusteria was both victim and protagonist of this tragedy. Sesto di Pusteria is the only place of Germanic language and culture belonging to the Austro-Hungarian Empire to find itself at the front line, undergoing forced evacuation and displacement, and then, together with other places of the South Tyrol, being annexed to Italy. This chance set of events makes Sesto an emblematic place to tell the history of this period, not only for the Tyrolean citizens of today but for all the inhabitants of Europe. The vicissitudes of the civilian population and of the soldiers during this extremely important moment in history have so far surprisingly been neglected, undoubtedly because of the upheaval following the end of the war and annexation to Italy. Given the considerable interest in the First World War that is now emerging in Europe, Sesto has unique and inestimable contribution to make. The Associazione Bellum Aquilarum (Bellum Aquilarum historical association) aims to save from oblivion the surviving testimony to this tragedy in order to preserve it so that it can be handed down to future generations, not only to the young people of Pusteria, but also to those living in places once belonging to the former Austro-Hungarian Empire that were the scenes of battle here. The tragedy experienced so deeply at Sesto and in Pusteria is askin to that of many other areas of Europe which were on the front line or which, after the war, witnessed the havoc brougth on by territorial annexation. The ensuing cultural, historical and political schism was immense; without doubt, these events changed Pusteria but also Europe itself, and today - in a European perspective enabling the age-old tensions issuing from the war to be overcome - preserving these memories can aid us in the construction of our common future.

This tour of medium difficulty takes us into the heart of the Sexten Dolomites. On the tarmac cycle path we ride to San Candido and there we turn towards Sesto. From the large car park we ascend to the Rifugio Tre Scarperi. We hardly notice that we have overcome a height difference of 300 metres: the wonderful nature and the mountains make us forget all the suffering. After a well-deserved stop at the refuge, we have two options to return to the valley: either we descend along the same road on which we ascended or we take a path and experience some new emotions.

Everything tastes better on the mountain, including breakfast! This is probably thanks to the fresh air and the great panoramic view. For brunch at the Ristorante Monte Elmo, it's definitely worth jumping out of bed early, even on weekends.
The walk leads along the forest path at the Haunold/Baranci valley station in direction of Toblach/Dobbiaco to the source of the Drau/Drava river. From there past the shooting range to the Baumonna farm, where the new bunker museum will be visited. Return either on foot or by bus from the Baumonna farm.

Start from the Bike Academy Sextner Dolomiten in the direction of Sexten, then slightly uphill to Mitterberg and on to Nemes Alm. After about 20 minutes we reach a plateau called "Saumad" (1.750 ) where we turn left to the Klammbach-Alm (1.940). Also here we are challenged again to enjoy after approx. 30 minutes at the Almhütte the dreamlike view of the Three Peaks.
Arrived at the Klammbach hut, we take a break and enjoy the "Schmankerln" by Hannes, then when Leon briefly unpacks his accordion then the mood is perfect. Passing the "Hennstoll" and via the Sesto circular trail we return to Sesto to the Bike Academy Sesto Dolomites.
A real experience: Sunrise at the top of Monte Elmo! Discover how the sun arises from behind the mountains and illuminates the landscape. From the summit of Monte Elmo you can enjoy this experience of nature with 360° panoramic views of the Dolomites and the Central Alps.
