It is worth setting off early to enjoy the freshness of dawn. The starting point is the Stallila car park, in a pretty refreshment station above St. Johann in the Ahrntal valley. The first stage, the warm-up programme, leads to the Daimer hut. The actual tour of the mountain begins here. The change in the mountain areas is very interesting. The meadows near Stallila turn into high pastures and finally, beyond the edge of the forest, into stones and scree. The route is well maintained. However, with each step we gain more altitude. 2,500 metres are not to be underestimated. At times we pass effortlessly over a few piles of old snow. Then we face a steep rocky spur. But with the help of stone steps, a short ladder and a few metres on a wire rope, we manage this passage well. We are happy to live in some excitement. Now we are already at the site of the old hut. Only another hundred metres in altitude to reach the new hut. What an impressive view all the way to the Dolomites! After a good meal we comfortably descend into the valley.

On foot to the highest, year-round organic mountain farm Kofler in Rein. Organic farmer Irmgard accompanies the tour of the house and farm and invites you to a small tasting of her home-made products. Followed by a leisurely walk back to Rein/Riva.

Cave therapy, known by the technical term of “speleotherapy”, helps relieve chronic and recurring respiratory ailments and is a feature of complementary medicine. As in damp caves, the relative humidity in the climate gallery is close to saturation. Suspended particles and allergens in the air are thus bound together and deposited on the wet rock walls. The gallery therefore contains very pure air. When this cold air (8-10°C) is inhaled it is warmed to the body’s temperature of 37°C. The warmer the air, the more water vapour it can absorb. The gallery air can thus extract water from the mucous membranes on its path through the respiratory system, reducing swelling of the breathing structure and allowing those with respiratory problems to breathe more freely. Visits to the climate gallery are entirely free of side effects.

The special exhibition at Taufers Castle deals with the medieval theme of "popular belief", which combines religious aspects with superstition. Curated by Marie Rubner, it can be seen from March 29 to November 3, 2024.
The exhibition shows a view of the world that was influential until the Enlightenment and is still influential today. It does not judge, but provides insights into religious customs, rituals and the belief in otherworldly powers.
Popular belief sought to harness otherworldly powers in order to achieve safety, health and salvation.
The exhibition presents texts, exhibits and images, including unicorns, basilisks and thinkers.
Although it does not draw any conclusions, the exhibition opens our eyes to the importance of popular beliefs in society. It also shows how the focus on popular belief affects historical conflicts of faith.
It becomes clear that popular belief filled gaps in the Christian understanding of faith by turning to powers beyond. At the same time, the Catholic understanding of faith opposed pagan cults with sacramental alternatives.
A visit to the exhibition can reveal further insights and invites you to visit several times.

'Kofler zwischen den Wänden' (Kofler in between the walls of rock) is a mountain farm high above the Ahrntal/Valle Aurina. The first road ever leading up there was built only a few years ago. The village now has a climbing crag which offers over 40 short climbing routes, technically not very demanding, and all of them well-secured. An ideal place for beginners to make their first attempts on steep rock. Our mountain guide will explain important safety techniques for rock climbing, supervise the climbers, and give useful tips for this fascinating sport. You will be climbing until your arms ache and your thighs shout for a break.

There is a panorama everywhere there is a view. But this is different! It's hard to find anything like it. The Aurina valley is surrounded by three-thousand-metre peaks. 84 of them have been counted. Cadipietra, then San Giacomo, some beautiful villages in the Aurina valley that we pass to climb with every metre towards the spectacle of mountain views. Meadows and forests, streams and mountains accompany us. We pick up mountain pastures like on a string of pearls. It is tempting to stop everywhere and listen to the stories of the people who live there. But we don't have all day, although we are in no hurry. So we allow ourselves the luxury of a "Höler" juice. Your guide knows what that is. At the Waldner hut we can choose between dumplings and "Schmarrn", a local delicacy. And fitness and weather permitting, we can extend the tour. To celebrate the CleanUP days, the well-known percussionist and environmentally conscious artist Max Castlunger will be making drums of all kinds - made from old tires - with young and old music lovers on Friday, September 20.
These can of course be heard afterwards: He will give a CleanUP percussion concert together with everyone who attends. During - and afterwards - we talk about music, drums, volume, garbage, waste and carelessness, and - about our love of nature, which these days make us particularly aware of again.

Cheese belongs to our South Tyrolean valleys, just like the mountains, the wine and the farmers. Without cheese, our lives would only be half as good. And so, on this tour, we hike into the heart of cheese, so to speak. Where it is made, where it is produced, where it matures and where it is enjoyed. The day begins at Hotel Mühlwald in the side valley of the same name in the Ahrntal. We take a leisurely stroll along the stream until our wings of enthusiasm carry us up to a small and quite impressive waterfall. When we have all looked enough, we descend again, cross the stream and thus change the side of the valley. A little further up, then we reach the "Eggemoa Hof". There, at an altitude of 1300 metres, delicacies are produced that have earned a great reputation. They have sonorous names like Candidum, Larix, Steiner, Carbo or Herbarius and they are real delicacies in the big world of cheese. Of course, they are produced with South Tyrolean love, but above all, all these cheeses are the results of experience and skill, an obsession with detail and the will to meet the taste of cheese lovers. The stories of the Steiner family and of their farm are special and above all worth hearing. So on this day, immerse yourself up to your neck in the subject of cheese. It will be worth it, because sometimes you go a long way to get a piece of cheese. And we will taste the best of the good at the Eggemoa farm and let it melt in our mouths.

There are many cycling tours in the Alps. Among them are some really beautiful tours. And the Roundtour Passo Gola is one of them. We start at Campo Tures and ride to the alpine village of Riva di Tures. Here suddenly the great mountain scenery opens up. It will accompany us with ever-changing views. We head towards the Alpine hut Knutten, a gastronomic temple in the middle of the Vedrette Ries group. From there to Lake Klamml and over the Golapass, where the border crossing used to be. Passports were still checked there until the European Schengen Agreement. Not so long ago. Today you simply continue there and descend to the Jagdhaus alpine pastures in Austria, where, for historical reasons, South Tyrolean farmers still graze their young cattles in East Tyrol in summer. An idyllic place for another stop. Take a look around and you will understand why this place is called 'Little Tibet'. Continue downhill to St. Jakob in the Defreggen Valley in beautiful East Tyrol to the Staller Pass. Now we are already in Anterselva, the home of the Biathlon World Cup. Downhill to Lake Anterselva, then on into the green Puster Valley and down to Brunico. From there on the cycle path back to Campo Tures. This is undeniably a great tour. With the support of the e-bike, much of the uphill effort is significantly alleviated. Anyone who wants to experience a piece of almost untouched nature should come along.

The tour begins in the grain store of Steinhaus, the former warehouse of the mining industry. Afterwards, our guides will lead you through the historic centre of Steinhaus, a unique sight in South Tyrol that was created thanks to the mining industry. The striking red houses, such as the factor house, the Gassegg residence and the church Maria Loreto, as well as the smelting hut are explained. A walk through the centuries old history of the "Ahrner Handel".

There, directly out of the lush meadows, you quickly plunge into a shady forest, which, however, always gives you a view of the mountains of the Rieserferner group. Past small alpine pastures and a stop at a thundering waterfall, we finally cross a bubbling glacial stream. This takes us into an alpine region that, on closer inspection, still clearly shows the ice age and the mighty force of the glacier. Now it's not far to the Kasseler Hütte, which we can asee for a long time. We are greeted by our hosts Silvia and Arnold, who are as legendary up there as the contents of their menu. You can eat up and down from it without making any mistakes. The view up there is outstanding and the possibility of hiking on to the Malerseen lakes is tempting. All in all, this is certainly an unforgettable tour to a "must have" among the mountain hikes of South Tyrol.
