There are few places more eerie than the castle at night time. For hundreds of years ghosts have been making mischief there during the dark hours. There are many tales we can tell you of them and, on very special nights, you may even encounter them yourself! Will you be one of the brave gang of kids that experiences the thrills and excitement of the castle? (guided visit tour only in german or italian language)

The nature park rangers show you the animals that live here, how to recognise their tracks and how they live in their habitat. As young researchers, you can find out all kinds of exciting things and learn a lot about nature – outside in the fresh air or in the nature park visitor centre. And afterwards it’s time to get really creative, as we make something fantastic from nature’s treasures. Let’s go!

The special exhibition to mark the 800th anniversary of the Castle of Taufers focuses on a medieval and social theme: the relationship between the nobility and the peasantry. The exhibition, curated by Marie Rubner and the Südtiroler Burgeninstitut, can be seen at Castle Taufers from April 18 to November 2, 2025.
The beginning of the 16th century was characterized by social, economic and religious changes. Serfdom severely restricted the rights of the lower classes and forced them to pay additional taxes to aristocratic feudal lords and the clergy. In 1525, the call for equality, justice and freedom grew louder and louder. Discontent soon turned violent and the Peasants’ War broke out like wildfire in Central Europe. 2025 marks the 500th anniversary of the beginning of the peasant revolt. To mark the anniversary, the exhibition “500 Years: Peasants‘ War - Striving for Freedom” allows visitors to immerse themselves in the history of this period.

Discover the midday air - Your time to breathe

Climb aboard the mine railway and let yourself be carried leisurely into the mountain. Once you arrive in the Climate gallery area, an atmosphere of tranquility awaits you: gentle sounds and soothing music accompany your relaxation. Wrapped in warm blankets and with a hot water bottle, you can lean back while a herbal tea warms you from the inside. Take time to breathe in and savour the pure, cool tunnel air.

The special microclimate underground - cool, moist and pure - supports your airways and helps you to switch off completely. Even chronic respiratory illnesses such as asthma, bronchitis or sinus problems can be noticeably alleviated.

Take a breather - in the heart of the mountain. Price: €19.00, Duration: 1h15min Times: Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday at 1pm; Please come to the location at least 20 minutes prior to your booked time slot. Warm clothes are required and sturdy footwear for the entry into the gallery is recommended. Helmets and raincoats are provided by the Museum. Access to the Climate gallery is only permitted in clean slippers or trainers/shoes. Please bring a clean change of shoes. Upon request, the museum will provide felt slippers free of charge.

Spruce honey, herbal salts, bath scents, calendula cream, fluffy slippers, potatoes, pumpkins, "Tirschtlan" (local specialty), pine and juniper liquor, cheese, cherry pie, rye bread, bacon, cranberry jelly ... we can do? Almost anything you can get in the small market.

The handball association Sand in Taufers/Campo Tures invites you to the biggest youth handball tournament in the Alps!
Where? On the artificial turf pitch in Mühlen in Taufers/Molini di Tures

Approx. 300 exciting games will be played from Saturday to Sunday. The award ceremony on Sunday at 14:30 is the highlight of the event.

11 nations and over 2000 youngsters including teams from Italy, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, the Czech Republic and Croatia will take part in this exciting handball tournament on the sunny side of the Alps.

5 outdoor courts on the artificial turf pitch in Mühlen/Molini will be the center of the action for three days, guaranteeing a large crowd. However, should it rain, the tournament will be held in two halls.


Insight into the course of the tournament:

- Friday from 21.00: Opening ceremony in the village center of Sand in Taufers
- Saturday from 08.00 am: start of the tournament on the artificial turf pitch in Sand in Taufers and preliminary round matches
- Sunday from 08.30 am: Playing of the last preliminary round matches
- Sunday afterwards: Start of the final round
- Sunday from 14.30 approx.: Award ceremony

The tour begins in the grain store of Steinhaus, the former warehouse of the mining industry. Afterwards, our guides will lead you through the historic centre of Steinhaus, a unique sight in South Tyrol that was created thanks to the mining industry. The striking red houses, such as the factor house, the Gassegg residence and the church Maria Loreto, as well as the smelting hut are explained. A walk through the centuries old history of the "Ahrner Handel".

Admission to the village tour includes a visit to the “Kornkasten” mining museum.

Warm summer nights, far from the artificial lights of the city. In Kasern, our magnificent starry sky can be observed especially well. Together with Sabrina Bernhard, a staff member of the South Tyrol Planetarium, we will explore the summer night sky, learn more about the formation of stars, and take a closer look at some of these fascinating objects with the help of a telescope.

On July 5th, the event will take place in the mobile planetarium, which will be set up in the cultural center in Prettau!

Every Saturday in July and August: A visit from the Sun Witch or a fun-filled children's program (face painting, meeting the llamas, and more).

Ascent by cable car and chairlift to elevation 2400: Speikboden/Sonnklar. From there start on foot: panoramic hike with fabulous views, to the Weizgruber Alp and on to the Treyer Alm... a captivating panorama. Amidst alpine roses, mountain pines, high pastures, forests. Set against the stunning landscape in the heart of the Ahrntal Valley, this year four artist teams from different countries invite visitors to experience art up close. From July 7 to 11, guests can watch the sculptors at work and witness the creation of pieces inspired by the theme “The crib tells its story – then & now.”

With skilled hands and creative vision, the artists breathe life into wood – a material often seen as unyielding. The result will be four groups of figures, each created in its own distinctive and unmistakable style.

Llamas are fluffy, curious and gentle. Have you ever been on a trek with one? Then why not join us! You can lead and pet them as we get to know them better on a trek to the waterfall. We’ll spend an exciting half-day with a small snack and home-made lemonade.

Immerse yourself in the fascinating world of sacred art with Doris Kirchler during a guided tour of the small Parish Museum. In a carefully curated exhibition, you will find around 50 impressive works, including statues and paintings, reflecting 700 years of regional history. These artworks invite you to explore not only their religious significance but also the socio-political and artistic changes over the centuries.

The Parish Museum is located in the historic Gothic granary, a charming building from 1559, situated in the northeast corner of the parish garden. Since 1984, this lovingly restored granary has served as the Parish Museum, providing a unique setting for the exhibition.
