Currently, closures are planned on several key railway lines that could affect your travels:

Brenner Railway Line

Closure of the Brenner/Brennero railway line

From 18 July to 1 August 2026, several sections along the Brenner railway line will be closed for modernisation and maintenance works.

During the construction period, long-distance trains will be diverted. For regional trains a replacement bus service will operate. Please note that bicycles cannot be transported on the replacement buses.

Useful information on the closure of the Brenner railway

Due to extensive construction, maintenance and modernisation work, the Brenner railway line will be fully closed on several sections from 18 July to 1 August 2026 inclusive.

Please note that the RJ80 and RJ81 trains between Munich and Venice will run mainly via Tarvisio during the closure.

No. Due to limited space and to allow as many passengers as possible to travel, bicycles cannot be taken on the replacement buses.

Folded folding bikes and closed e-scooters count as luggage and can be taken on board.

You can buy your ticket from ticket machines at railway stations, at Trenitalia ticket offices and at südtirolmobil info points. For the long-distance replacement bus between Innsbruck and Bolzano/Bozen, you need a valid ÖBB or DB ticket.

Please note: With the Alto Adige Guest Pass, you can travel on the replacement service Bolzano/Bozen - Brenner/Brennero and Brixen/Bressanone - Brenner/Brennero. Show it on board as your travel pass. No validation is needed.

Yes. On the day before and the day after the closures, there may be restrictions and individual train cancellations. Before you travel, please check the information channels of the relevant railway operators.

Vinschger Bahn railway line

Rail replacement service between Laas/Lasa - Mals/Malles route

From March 29, 2026, the Vinschgau railway will gradually resume operations on the Merano – Lasa section. Initially, services will run on a reduced timetable. Please note: on the Lasa – Malles section, only a limited number of services will run at first, in the morning and evening. You can find the detailed timetables here.

The rail replacement service between Merano and Malles will remain in operation. The Südtirol Guest Pass is valid on the replacement services. Validation at the station or on the bus is required.

Useful information on the closure of the Vinschger Bahn railway line

From 29 March, operations on the section between Merano and Lasa will resume, initially with hourly services.
On the section between Lasa and Malles, there will initially be only a few services in the morning and evening.

Yes, a replacement bus service will be provided during the closure.

The stops of this replacement service are mostly located in town centers and not always directly at the train stations.

Important note: Please pay attention to the destination signs on the buses — the replacement service is supplemented by school buses that may head to different final stops.

A valid train ticket is also valid for the rail replacement service. Tickets can also be purchased via the Südtirol Mobil site and the App Südtirolmobil.

The closure is necessary in order to complete the electrification works, dismantle the old train safety system and install the new system. In addition , the new electrified railway line and the new rolling stock must be tested and approved.

Yes, the Südtirol Guest Pass is also valid for all buses in the rail replacement service. Validation at the station or on the bus is required.

It is not possible to transport bicycles on the replacement buses. However, the BikeLiner shuttle service allows you to transport your bike from 18 April to 4 October 2026 from Merano to Malles.

BikeLiner Meran/Merano–Mals/Malles

The public bus equipped for bicycle transport

From April 18 to October 4, 2026, the BikeLiner takes you comfortably every day from Merano to Mals. Ideal for your cycling tour through the Vinschgau/Val Venosta.

Departure from Merano, railway station (bus platform B) at 09:10, 10:10, 15:10 and 16:10. Boarding only in Merano. You can get off in Naturns/Naturno, Latsch/Laces, Schlanders/Silandro, Spondinig or Mals.
Departure from Mals, railway station (bus stop) at 07:00, 12:00, 13:00 and 18:00. Boarding only in Mals. You can get off in Naturns/Naturno, Latsch/Laces, Schlanders/Silandro, Spondinig or Merano. (timetable)
You can take regular bikes and e-bikes. Tandems, cargo bikes or trailers are not allowed.
Please note that loading the bikes takes some time, so we recommend arriving about 15 minutes before departure in Merano or Mals. In case of delay your reservation will expire.
Book by 6 pm the day before at bikebooking.suedtirolmobil.info to secure your spot. Without reservation, transport is only possible if places are still available.
Tickets: in addition to your ticket you need a daily bike pass for € 7.50. You can get it at südtirolmobil ticket machines or in the app. Buy it before departure.

Road traffic disruptions

To ensure a safer and more efficient road network, important work is being carried out on the Reschenpass/Passo Resia road and the Lueg bridge (on the Austrian side of the Brenner/Brennero motorway). During temporary road closures, traffic management plans will minimise any disruption.
