    Fountain in Rapp Gardens
    Brixen/Bressanone, Brixen/Bressanone and environs

After the great flood of 1882, the Eisack and Rienz rivers in Brixen were obstructed and the confluence relocated approximately 300 metres downriver. The embellishment association, which was founded in 1885, created a green space in the newly won area between the two rivers and named it “Rappanlagen” in honour of the then governor, Franz von Rapp. The new space also received a fountain.

The fountain of life of Martin Rainer
    Brixen/Bressanone, Brixen/Bressanone and environs

There has always been a fountain on the cathedral square, even more so because the square also was the location of the local cattle markets until 1820. Originally, a fountain was located in front of the Trapp house, which houses the public library today. When the police ordered for two large flowerbeds bounded by wire fences to be laid out on the cathedral square in 1952 to prevent larger groups of people from gathering, a waterspout fountain was erected in the northern flowerbed (pictured). On occasion of the redesign of the cathedral square in 1989, artist Martin Rainer (1923–2012) created the Lebensbrunnen fountain. The bronze pyramid in the marble basin represents the different stages of human life and the circle of life as a spiral which springs from the hand of God and returns to it in the end.

    Natz-Schabs/Naz-Sciaves, Brixen/Bressanone and environs

Since 2005, Franzensfeste has become a very popular meeting point for climbers. Over the past few years, the climbing crag has been equipped by an independent group of climbing enthusiasts of the CAI who managed to create a crag which is now known throughout the region. Underneath the large central sector with routes of easy and medium difficulty, there is a smaller sector with short, but more difficult routes. Recently, the team has begun to work on a new sector directly above the central sector. It promises long routes, even mutli-pitches, for all preferences. The crag is very suitable for families with small children because of its proximity to the main road. Furthermore, just underneath the wall there is a meadow with tables and benches.

The Franzensfeste climbing park enjoys great popularity among beginners and families. It is easily accessible by bus or railway and a 15 minutes' walk from the fortress Franzensfeste.

According to the city law book of 1604, one of the city’s ten public draw wells was located right outside the former Anreiterische Trinkstube tavern under the Große Lauben arcades. The Anreiterische Trinkstube became Café Pircher in 1822. In 1913, the new Hotel Tirol was built in that place, which nowadays houses a branch office of the Volksbank bank. The fountain is still in the same place, however, and while it has been restored, its traditional shape has been preserved.

The Rococo library of the monastery  of Novacella is uniquely beautiful, the Pinacoteca houses medieval paintings by outstanding masters Michael and Friedrich Pacher and Marx Reichlich. The Turkish wall dates back to turbulent times. The mill, water buildings and wine cellar point to the economic importance of the monastery. Brixen/Bressanone, Brixen/Bressanone and environs

The fountain in Altenmarktgasse alley is mentioned in the 1604 city law book as one of the ten public draw wells in Brixen. It was probably originally built for the market town located outside the city walls. While the market was soon moved into the city, probably for security reasons, causing the name “forum vetus” (“old market”) to turn up as early as in 1223, the market town kept on developing and the fountain was most welcome, also seeing as the cattle market was held there once again from 1820 to 1867. The historic picture was taken in 1907. The fountain is still the same today.
