    Venosta Valley High Mountain Trail
    Schlanders/Silandro, Vinschgau/Val Venosta

The Val Venosta Alpine Ridgeway (Vinschger Höhenweg) in the Lower Vinschgau valley, from Stava/Staben to the source of the Etsch river at the Reschen Pass where three countries meet, is a true experience for passionate hikers. The stretch totals 108 km and follows existing and new footpaths, paths alongside "Waale" (historic irrigation canals) and connecting roads between farms.

The Alpine Ridgeway unites various stages that can be hiked as part of a multi-day tour or as a one-day excursion. The individual stages are easily accessible via access points in the villages in the valley. In order to help hikers keep their bearings, the entire Alpine Ridgeway is marked with a uniform red logo.

It is a truly remarkable experience to hike through the species-rich vegetation and impressive world of nature that could not be more filled with contrast. The trails on the Sonnenberg mountain feature diverse vegetation such as steppe grass and herbs. They also offer exciting views of the highest mountains in South Tyrol and the fertile valley below.

The best time for the hike is from April to October, although one should be aware that it can be very hot in summer.

Tip: special rates for the Val Venosta Alpine Ridgeway are available (B&B including luggage transport, hiking map of the ridgeway, return transport to the starting point).

    Dolomites World Heritage Geotrail II
    Kastelruth/Castelrotto, Dolomites Region Seiser Alm

Dolomites World Heritage Geotrail II - from Bletterbach to the Sexten Dolomites

A hiking trail to discover the fossil archipelago of the  Dolomites UNESCO World Hetitage

In 2009 UNESCO listed the Dolomites as a World Heritage Site for the aesthetic value of its landscape and for the scientific importance of its geology and geomorphology. From this arose the idea of designing a trekking route through the Dolomites that would present this spectacular history and beauty to hiker.

The Dolomites World Heritage Geotrail explores the entire Dolomites World Heritage Site in 47 stages. 10 of these stages run through the South Tyrolean Dolomites, traversing some of the most beautiful and geologically interesting mountain ranges in the region. There are breathtaking views to be had along a route that features plenty of opposites, while hiking is a unique experience along the well-marked, well-maintained paths.

The Geotrail is thus a combination of long-distance footpath and educational trail. The individual stages of this trail are also possible as day tours; you can almost always use public transport to get back to your starting point or to return from the day’s destination. The main challenge is nevertheless to attempt the Geotrail in ten days, taking the time to explore a unique world full of secrets and for a while escaping the hustle and bustle of our (over-)organised everyday world.

    Ortler High Mountain Trail
    Stilfs/Stelvio, Vinschgau/Val Venosta

The new Ortler High Mountain Trail extends around the Stelvio National Park, from Venosta Valley in South Tyrol to Valtellina in Lombardy. With an altitude performance of 8,126 m across the entire route, this high Alpine hike circumnavigates the Ortler Group, in sections running at over 3,000 m altitude, and is one of the most demanding high-altitude routes in the Alpine region. Here, everything is demanded of even the most experienced mountain hikers: surefootedness, good fitness and suitable equipment are basic requirements for the seven-day tour, as one section runs over glacial terrain. The company of a mountain guide is recommended.

The Ortler High Mountain Trail is approximately 119.5 km long, and offers a highly unique experience in nature. It is divided into seven daily stages, each of which can be completed in six to eight hours. The individual stages of the circular hike can also be undertaken as eventful single-day hikes exploring the wide variety of local fauna and flora in the Stelvio National Park. The ideal time for all experienced mountain hikers is between June to September, with mild temperatures and clear visibility offering a unique panoramic view of the Ortler Group glaciers. Each stage of this high Alpine circular hiking trail offers its own special scenic highlights in the truest sense of the word.

The designated Alpine pastures and mountain huts along this high Alpine route are working farms and offer both food and accommodation to hikers.
