Once you have left the village centre, you will understand why La Val is called the village of Alpine meadows: green, well-kept meadows will constantly surround you during this hike. The man-made landscape between 1300 and 2000 metres above sea level developed through the hard work of our farming ancestors, which today is facilitated by the use of agricultural machinery.
As the altitude increases, so does the consistency of the meadows: from meagre meadows to the larch meadows of Armentara. Along the route you will find wonderful viewpoints, a sulphurous water spring at Al Bagn and several refreshment points where you can refresh yourself with some of the delicious Ladin specialities that can satisfy every palate: try the typical bales (dumplings) or snack on a well-earned slice of strudel.
Every year, the non-competitive half-marathon 'Tru di pra' takes place on this route.

The stories and fairy tales about witches and similar legendary creatures have always excited the fantasy of children and adults alike. Examples of the many exciting stories are the explanation why the Castle Greifenstein is always called ”Sauerschloss“, the fairy tale of the sunken city, the endless ball of threads, the butter witch of Afing, how the Castle of Greifenstein got its name, the captured mermaid, and many more. The Dolomites High Route no. 2 was among the first of 10 “official” Dolomites High Routes to be described and signposted. The High Route is also known as the "way of the legends" as it passes through Dolomites mountains and valleys rich in myths and legends: for example the Odle group and the Sella group with the legends of the Ladin people or Feltre with the tales of ogres and witches. The multi-day excursion can be completed in several stages going from north to south. Starting point is Bressanone/Brixen, the quaint town of South Tyrol, rich in history. Arrival is the town of Feltre with the river Piave, witness of some of the tragic events of World War I. The route crosses three provinces, Bolzano, Trento and Belluno and 10 mountain groups (Plose, Pütia/Peitlerkofel, Odle/Geisler, Puez, Sella, Padon, Marmolada, Bocche, Pala, Feltre group), among which Plose, Padon and the Lusia-Bocche group are not part of the Dolomites. The Dolomites High Route no. 2 offers a nice variety of hiking and climbing and the chance to discover art and culture. So, for example, it is worth a visit the city of Bressanone with its museums and works of art and, not to forget, the many historical sites of World War I that you meet along the way.
Starting in Trodena/Truden we take the European long distance path E5. We walk through a wonderful mixed coniferous forest, partly on a forestry trail, partly on an old path and we get to the col "Ziss-Sattel". The trail continues to the alpine cabin "Hornalm" on 1.710m which is surrounded by large meadows and high alpine plants: gentian, milkworts, sulfuric anemones and bearded bellflowers. The panoramic view from the Hornalm is surely worth the tiring climb: You have a wonderful view over the mountain chain "Lagoraikette", the Palagruppe, the two mountains Schwarzhorn and Weißhorn, the Zanggenberg, the Latemar, the Rosengarten group, the Schlern and the Alps of the Stubaital and Ötztal. After a side-trip to the "Schwarzensee", a black lake and biotope, we walk around the top of the Trudner Horn and take the path E5 back to Trodena.
The scenic, long-distance hike through the western Dolomites runs from Brixen/Bressanone in the Eisacktal Valley to Feltre in the Province of Belluno.

Long-distance hiking trail with panoramic views
The Dolomites High Trail No. 9 starts in the provincial capital of South Tyrol, Bozen/Bolzano, then crosses South Tyrol and part of the province of Belluno. The stages of the long-distance hiking trail are really short and therefore also suitable for hikers with less physical condition. This long-distance hike takes you to the most beautiful places in the Dolomites. The route is taken within 12 to 14 days.
Hiking through Passeier Valley
The E5 (Constance – Bozen – Venice) is one of the special European routes. Almost all of the route is an Alpine route and is marked most of the way as E5. This part of the route describes the part from the Austrian / Italian border at the Timmelsjoch through the Passeier Valley to Bozen.
The way is marked always well and crosses a nature protected zone of full fascinations. This way was already committed by the smugglers.
The impressively steep and rocky tooth of the Sassongher rises directly before us, while far to the south we see the imposing and majestic northwest wall of the Civetta. Merely crossing the plateau on which the Puez Hut is located represents a unique experience for mountaineers without vast geological knowledge, with bizarre rock formations that only a whim of nature could create. The Pralongiá plateau offers a breathtaking view of the largest glacier in the Dolomites, the north face of the Marmolada.

The Dolomites High Route 8 leads from Bressanone to Salorno. It goes over a crest, which flanks the Etschtal/Val'Adige valley and the Eisacktal/Valle Isarco valley.
The path begins together with the Dolomites High Route 2 in Bressanone, later the paths separate. The Dolomites High Route 8 offers a relatively easy crossing of the Dolomites. It was built relatively late, in 1981, from the existing network of paths. The most demanding part of the route is the passage from the Passo di Costalunga to the hut Rifugio di Pisa. Since there are many bases, the path can be followed in quite short stages, which makes it also exciting for families with children. The duration of the trail should be between 10 and 13 days.
The European Long-Distance Hiking Trail E5 leads from the Atlantic Coast to the Adriatic Sea. One of the safest and most beautiful sections is from Meran 2000 to Jenesien/San Genesio.
From the Schermoos parking place, walk along the E5 European long-distance walking trail until you reach the Möltner Kaser restaurant/mountain hut. Keep on walking along trail no. 23A until you reach the famous "Men of Stone" with its amazing view on the Dolomites. On your way back, follow the path no. 23 and no.5 to reach the Jenesier Jöchl pastures.
From the pastures, go on along trail no. 5 until you reach the parking Schermoos. Walking hours around 5 hours- Drop/rise 730 m
Our day on the mountains starts at Falzeben to reach the Meranerhütte. On the way you frequently pass different alpine huts where you can have a rest. For example, the "Zuegghütte", the "Rotwandhütte" or the "Waidmannalm". From the "Meraner Hütte" (1937m), you will pass the ridge "Kreuzjöchl" (1981m) to the mountain "Kartoffel" (2084m), the highest point of this hike. Crossing the ridge "Auener Jöchel" (1925m), you will descend to the "Stoanernen Mandlen" (2003m) and finally to the "Möltner Kaser" (1766m). Here you can always walk over gentle alpine meadows and on the "Stoanernen Mandlen" you have a particularly good view of the nearby Dolomites. Via "Möltner Joch" you will reach the parking space Schermoos and Meltina.
This stage takes you through one of the most iconic landscapes of the Dolomites. Right at the beginning, you'll encounter Lake Carezza, a deep blue mountain lake that, with the rugged peaks of the Latemar in the background, appears as a gem in the landscape. From there, you'll traverse dense coniferous forests and alpine meadows that provide an impressive panorama, which will accompany you all the way to Obereggen.
Path [9] leads from Obereggen straight south to the Reiterjoch | Passo di Pampeago. From there it heads west, bending slightly to the north, around the Zanggen mountain. After about 1 hour you reach the Lavazéjoch | Passo di Pampeago with overnight accommodation and refreshment stops. From there, the trail continues via the Neuhütt Alm | Malga Capanna nuova to Deutschnofen | Nova Ponente.
The hike “Perlenweg” links the four villages Nova Ponente (Deutschnofen), Nova Levante (Welschnofen), Collepietra (Steinegg) and Tires (Tiers). Those surround the mountains Rosengarten and Latemar. They are part of the Dolomites and count to the UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Among 80 km (49miles), divided into 5 stages, for each considering 1 day, this hike allows an insight in this breathtaking area.
The Perlenweg is very attractive for professionals or for free time hikers. Easily it can be chosen the level of difficulty. There are few possibilities to take public transport and stops in the traditional hovels. The curiosity of this hike is that it can be mounted from both directions.
