The SchwarzWeiss Long-Distance Hiking Trail is currently the new long-distance hiking trail in the Unterland district of South Tyrol. ” Stroll your way to happiness” and “Slow down and enjoy yourself” are the principles upon which this trail is based. When traversing this trail, you can appreciate the stark contrasts which dominate South Tyrol and which are especially visible in the Unterland district, along the Truden Faultline: linguistic boundaries, historical borders, interesting rock formations, magnificent mountains and luscious valleys, alpine and mediterranean climate zones, as well as Schwarz (“black”) and Weiss (“white”). The fourth stage of the Perlen Loop Trail offers a rich variety of landscapes and unforgettable alpine moments. Starting in Obereggen, the trail winds through lush meadows, past traditional mountain huts, and into peaceful high-mountain terrain. The climb to the Reiter Joch is rewarded with sweeping views of the surrounding Dolomite peaks – a true highlight for nature lovers.

From there, the route gently descends through forest paths and sun-drenched clearings, leading to the welcoming village of Deutschnofen, where accommodation and rest stops await. This stage is ideal for experienced hikers seeking authenticity, panoramic views, and a deep connection with the mountains – a true gem of the trail.

Along the way there are 12 stations, which were designed by the pupils of the local primary school. There are lots of small master pieces which were smoothly integrated into the landscape of the Salten high plateau. Each station tells you about a local fairy tale from the area of San Genesio. The stories and fairy tales about witches and similar legendary creatures have always excited the fantasy of children and adults alike. Examples of the many exciting stories are the explanation why the Castle Greifenstein is always called ”Sauerschloss“, the fairy tale of the sunken city, the endless ball of threads, the butter witch of Afing, how the Castle of Greifenstein got its name, the captured mermaid, and many more. The tenth and most challenging stage of the 360° Obervinschgau circular hiking trail leads through impressive high alpine landscapes with magnificent views of the Sesvenna Group and the Obervinschgau valley basin, with a viewing platform as a special highlight.

The fifth and final stage of the Perlen Loop Trail takes you from Deutschnofen down into the valley to Kardaun, offering a varied route full of natural beauty and cultural charm. Along the way, you pass picturesque villages such as St. Veit and Karneid, enjoying stunning views of the surrounding mountains and valleys. This stage is perfect for those who want to experience authentic South Tyrolean life, combining diverse landscapes with rich history. After your hike, cozy inns await you along with convenient bus connections.

This first stage of the Multiday Hike - Alpine Pearls is a very varied start to your adventure. The hike begins near Bozen|Bolzano, in the small village of Kardaun|Cardano, at an altitude of 280 metres. On the way to the next little village of Karneid|Cornedo, you will come across numerous vineyards and from a distance you can also catch a view of the imposing castle complex of the Castle of Karneid. Through deciduous forest and later mixed forest, you reach Steinegg|Collepietra at an altitude of 820 metres via the "Rittersteig" trail. Here you will find several places to stop for refreshments and you can also enjoy the unique >Museum of Steinegg. Across the hill "Pstosser Bühl", you can already enjoy the first wonderful views of the Schlern and the Rosengarten. You walk right past the earth pyramids of Steinegg|Collepietra and then descend into the Valley of Tiers|Tires to the small village of Breien|Briè. Along the torrent Briè you reach Tiers|Tires, our first stage destination on our 5-day hike.

Hiking & "törggelen": This ancient South Tyrolean custom alone is worth a trip. From October to the beginning of the Advent season, you meet the "törggelen" in the Renon inns and taverns with young wine, sweet cider and hearty delicacies. When the chestnuts are roasted over the "Keschtnfeuer", you feel as if you have travelled back in time. One-time quaint!
