Excursion Selva - Ciampinoi - Passo Sella

From Selva di Val Gardena up to Ciampinoi. From here on until Passo Sella.

From Selva you go up on path no. 27 to Ciampinoi, from where you then descend on path no. 21A towards the Comici hut. From there it goes through the Stone City on path no. 526 to the Sella Pass.
Itinerary
The hike starts in Selva di Val Gardena and begins with a steep ascent along trail no. 27. The climb is demanding but rewards you with beautiful views over the Val Gardena and the surrounding Dolomites. After some time, you reach the upper station of the Ciampinoi (2,254 m), where a magnificent panorama opens up over the Sella Group, Sassolungo (Langkofel), and Sassopiatto (Plattkofel). From here, you follow trail no. 21A, which descends gently towards the Comici Hut. The route then continues on trail no. 526, leading through the fascinating Città dei Sassi (Stone City), a landscape of huge boulders that fell from the mountainside and now form a natural labyrinth. The hike ends at the Sella Pass (2,218 m), where you can once again enjoy breathtaking views of the Dolomites. This route offers great variety, combining steep climbs, easier sections, and dramatic rock formations – ideal for sure-footed hikers with good fitness.

Even though the trails are well marked, the steep ascent to the Ciampinoi requires a good basic level of fitness. Sufficient water, sun protection, and sturdy footwear are essential.
Anyone planning this hike should definitely take the time to enjoy the viewpoints: especially above the Comici Hut, there is a spectacular view of the Sassolungo and the Sella Group – perfect for photos or simply to enjoy the Dolomites in peace. Starting early is recommended, as in the morning the mountain scenery is particularly quiet and the air is clear.
If arriving by public transport, take a bus from Bolzano or Bressanone towards Val Gardena and get off in Selva at Ciampinoi.

Parking is available in the village or at the Ciampinoi cable car base station, which is the starting point of the hike.
