This route crosses four villages of the Val d'Adige by orchards, vineyards, along the forest and also provides some viewpoints. The route is easy to ride, since no large height differences have to be overcome.

There are several places of interest which invite you to linger. The route leads not only past designated bike paths, but also to non-busy routes. Very easy to ride with the racing bike too.

This easy bike link tour conects the village of Monte S. Pietro with the famous Pilgrimage site of
Madonna di Pietralba. The tour delights everyone, as it runs mostly on paved roads and offers a fantastic view of the neighbouring Dolomite mountains such as Rosengarten/Catinaccio, Schlern/Sciliar and Latemar.

After 2000 years of history, Via Claudia Augusta, the ancient Roman road that led from the Po River lowlands and the Adriatic Sea all the way to Bavaria and the Danube, is enjoying a renaissance. With the end of conflict and a united Europe, the Via Claudia Augusta has become a bridge joining and blending cultures, places and emotions. It is a symbolic route that spans three nations, each with its own diverse landscape and traditions, artistic treasures and culinary specialities, marked by a more approachable, youthful and ecologically sustainable tourism.

The South Tyrolean part of the trail goes through Passo Resia, Val Venosta, Merano, Bolzano and Val d'Adige until Salorno.

The route leads from Marlengo/Marling via Lana and Nalles/Nals to Andriano/Andrian. Change to the Etschtal Cycle Path, which leads to Bolzano/Bozen. One of the most ‘castle rich’ regions in all of Europe begins south of Merano/Meran. Worth mentioning are Hocheppan Castle in Missiano/Missian, Appiano/Eppan, Maultasch Castle (Burg Maultasch) near Terlano/Terlan and Sigmundskron Castle (Schloss Sigmundskron) near Firmiano/Firmian, Bolzano.

The route leads along the western edge of South Tyrol's capital city Bolzano (the best way to enter is to follow the Eisack river). The villages south of Bolzano have been historically strongly shaped by the navigable Etsch river. Of particular historical importance are the medieval village of Egna/Neumarkt with South Tyrol’s only proven Roman staging post, Endidae, and Salorno/Salurn, located on the language border at the Salurner Klause, the name of this narrow valley section.

The South Tyrolean portion of the Via Claudia Augusta, leading to Ostiglia near Verona or Quarto d’Altino near Venice, ends at Salorno.

The mountain bike tour from Aldein / Lerch to Auer-Leger Alm near Jochgrimm traverses some of the most spectacular landscapes of South Tyrol. Spanning a total distance of about 30 km with an elevation gain of approximately 450 m, the route blends asphalt and predominantly gravel paths, with a consistent incline of about 10%. In addition to the physical challenge, cyclists are rewarded with the natural beauty of the Dolomites, diverse flora, and the geological uniqueness of the Geoparc Bletterbach, a UNESCO World Heritage site. The best months for this tour are late spring, summer, and autumn when nature is at its most vibrant.

The cycle path from Mühlbach to Vals is a picturesque route that takes cyclists through the breathtaking nature of the region. Ideal for nature lovers, it offers a varied and peaceful trail, perfect for enjoying the serenity of the mountains. The destination in Vals invites you to take a break with its cozy dining options and the possibility to continue with the Jochtal cable car.

Starting in the centre of Trodena on an asphalted street we drive down to Fontanefredde (1005m). Then we drive past the farm "Pausa" until we reach Montagna (672m). The track leads past Castelfeder (377m), between Ora and Egna we reach the connection to the Adige Cycle Route.

The tour leads you from the Town Hall Square in Nalles to the Apple-cycle-path along the golf course in Lana. It continues through Lana, after Sinigo and then it goes up to the Gardens of Trauttmansdorff Castle (visitation possible). It goes back through the beautiful spa town of Merano. Along the apple trees, the tour leads you back to Nalles.

From Valdaora/Olang starts the trail in direction Anterselva/Antholz. Starting from Valdaora/Olang in direction of the Industrial Zone, either starting from Valdaora di Sopra/Oberolang from the road Erschbaum or from Valdaora di Mezzo/Mittelolang, following Via Stazione. From the Industrial Zone you go on for a short but uphill distance on the asphalted road in direction Rasun/Rasen. From here you follow the road until the traffic circle and then you turn first left, cross the bridge and the turn immediatly right on a country road. Follow this road up to Rasun di Sopra/Oberrasen. Once there, turn right before the bridge and follow the bike trail, that mainly follows the stream of Anterselva/Antholz, in direction of the valley. After 4 km of breath-taking landscapes of the Valle di Anterselva/Antholzertal, you get nearer to Anterselva di Sotto/Niederantholz. Beside the cross near the village there is a little lake with the possibility to fish. To go back, just do the same road.

From the Etschbrücke bridge in Tschars (Winkler Inn) the trail leads along a slight climb past various farms up to Tomberg and from there to the Schartegg parking lot (1,460m). The last stretch from the parking lot to the pasture requires a little stamina, as the trail becomes steeper. The first 8.3 km are on a paved road and the rest of the route on a gravel path. The trail to the Tablander Alm mountain pasture offers various opportunities to enter the Lupo and Fontana trails. After 6.7 km and 570m gain it is possible to take the crossing Fontana Trail, and after 4.3 km and 360m gain the crossing Lupo Trail.

This easy bike link tour conects the two villages Nova Ponente and Obereggen and delights everyone, as it runs mostly on paved roads and on forest with flat passages. The fantastic view of the neighbouring Dolomite mountains such as Rosengarten/Catinaccio, Schlern/Sciliar and Latemar is always fascinating.

Da Bolzano è possibile raggiungere Merano grazie alla pista ciclabile che passa attraverso i meleti e segue il percorso del Fiume Adige. Il tour passa vicino a Castel Firmiano, Terlano e Gargazzone. Superato Postal si arriva a Sinigo e subito dopo a Merano.

You can reach Merano by bike thanks to the wonderful cycle path that runs thourgh the apple plantages and along the river Adige/Etsch. The tour also pass by Castle Firmiano/Sigmundskron, Terlano and Gargazzone. After Postal/Burgstall you will reach sinigo/Sinich and then Merano.

If you rent your bike at the “Südtirol Rad” rental point in Bolzano, you may give it back at that company’s rental point in Merano so you can return by train to Bolzano. For the latter option, you may want to purchase the Bikemobil Card, which combines two different offers: unlimited travelling on all of South Tyrol’s means of public transport and a day trip on a borrowed bicycle.
 
If you ride your own bicycle you can bring it with you on the train. The daily ticket for the bike costs € 7.

Those deciding on the rather more challenging and scenically rewarding Überetsch variation of the Via Claudia Augusta should remain on the orographic right side of the Etschtal in Andriano/Andrian, following the old wine road to Riva di Sotto/Unterrain.

This variation ascends to San Paolo/St. Pauls in Überetsch up to the two largest wine producing municipalities in South Tyrol, Appiano/Eppan and Caldaro/Kaltern. Just after Appiano, head down to the Kalterer See lake, the warmest bathing lake in the Alps, and on to the village of Termeno/Tramin, famed for its Gewürztraminer wine. With their vineyards and wineries, the picturesque wine villages further to the south, Cortaccia/Kurtatsch, Magrè/Margreid and Cortina all'Adige/Kurtinig, are also well worth a visit. At Egna/Neumarkt, the two variations meet up once more at the Via Claudia Augusta on the Etschtal Cycle Path leading to Salorno/Salurn and then on to Italian-speaking Trentino.

This easy family tour begins at the market place in Klausen (parking area nearby) near the north entrance to the town. The cycle path runs directly from here. Head north, mostly along the Eisack, right into Brixen town centre. When you get to the Adlerbrückengasse in Brixen, turn left towards the town centre and on the Domplatz square. Brixen has a wealth of art and architecture, and a good walk through the town is a must. One absolute must-see is the Diocesan museum in the Hofburg castle, which houses countless artistic treasures. For the homeward route, take the same cycle path back to Klausen

Through the villages in Unterland down as far as the language barrier at Salurn.

Through the vineyards and orchards you go from Tramin past the neighbouring village of Kurtatsch to Margreid. In this small little village we can find the oldest grape vine in Europe from the year 1601. You continue on through Kurtinig to Salurn where we can visit Haderburg castle after a short walk. For the return route we cycle through Laag on the cycle path which takes us along the Etsch river to Auer. We leave the cycle path at Auer and cross the bridge over the Adige. After approx. 500 metres, we turn right into the hamlet of Gmund (Pfatten). We cycle along this path until we reach the Laimburg crossroads. Here we turn sharp left and ride down to the lake. Cycle around the lake and after the St. Josef campsite you will come back to the cycle path towards Tramin. The home village of Tramin isn’t far from there.

An easy family cycling trip across the valley Vinschgau/Val Venosta back to Marling/Marlengo.

From the Etschradbrücke bridge in Tschars the uphill trail no. 2 to the Marzoner Alm mountain pasture leads with a slight incline past various farms up to Tomberg, and continues on to the Zirmtal intersection. There the trail turns right in order to reach, by means of another climb, the Marzoner Alm mountain pasture (1,600 m). The first 8,3 km are paved and the rest of the route is along a gravel path. Upon arrival at the Uphill  Marzoner Alm 2, there are two different ways to join either the Lupo Trail or the Fontana Trail. At 6,7 km (570m vertical climb) one can take the Fontana Trail and at 4,3 km (360m vertical climb) the Lupo Trail.

To the north of Bolzano/Bozen the Claudia Augusta route is divided into variation 1, which follows the valley basin along the Adige/Etsch River, and variation 2, leading through the wine villages and the Überetsch region.

 

This tour leads you through the Adige cycle path to the historic city of Trento.
