Various streets in the city of Merano - Meeting point for the route with the artists on 10 May at 11 am is Villa Bux - Via Karl Wolf 19 - Merano With Exposure Time, the association 00A - Centre for Contemporary Photography presents the second edition of contemporary photography on billboards in the public space of Merano. Exposure Time is more than just a title, it is an open field of questions: How much time do we give to seeing? How much light can memory take? When does visibility begin, and when does it become an imposition? 15 artists explore one of the central elements of photography: exposure time, the interplay of light and time. Their works, spread across 27 large-format billboards in the public space of Merano, form a polyphonic visual essay on light as a medium of perception, as a carrier of memory, as a catalyst for social reflection. To the north-east of Monguelfo in the Pustertal valley, rises Welsperg Castle, which is still in good condition. Ruin Thurn is located on the opposite, wooded hill. The two castles can be explored in the form of a pretty circular hike that leads from Monguelfo along one side of the Gsieser Bach stream into the valley and on to the village of Tesido and from there back to Monguelfo. Where exactly does private property begin and where does public space begin? Is the border a visible fence or an invisible line? What features define public and private space, and how do they influence our everyday experience? Photographer Lukas Felder from Lana takes his camera on a visual exploration tour through the market town and explores these questions. His photographic walk is not only a documentary investigation, but also an invitation to look at the familiar surroundings from a new, critical perspective. The results of his photographic research can be seen at a specially constructed fake building site on Hofmannplatz. The installation playfully questions the boundaries between reality and staging and invites us to rethink public space.

On May 16, Brixen will shine in the spirit of light! The International Day of Light highlights the fundamental importance of light for science, culture, and sustainable development. In 2025, Brixen will host a special event honoring the values of the Water Light Festival – sustainability, creativity, and a deep connection with nature. Under the theme “Water is Life – Light is Art”, a magical interplay of light, water, and art comes to life. While the Water Light Festival returns in 2026, visitors can already experience an inspiring tribute to water places and their symbolic power in Brixen. On Sunday afternoons in the garden, we celebrate the spectacle - as a radical indictment of modern working society and capitalism. We celebrate the capacity for inactivity - the vita contemplativa - and the good life among people, friends and like-minded people. Art brings back the humour that we so desperately need in today's world and shows a female gaze. "How can you still see reality," says Christine Lederer about her performance. As an artist, she works her way through her works and performative acts, which are often political, usually guided by words, reveal worlds and give instructions for action. In co-operation with the cultural association K.art.

United by their joint project to dress the zither in a new guise, musician Reinhilde Gamper and composer and multi-instrumentalist Simon Gamper have created a new concert programme. Together with sound engineer Claus Stecher and visual concept creator Julian Geier, they interweave sound and image to create an impressive overall experience in St Margareth's Chapel. In the 20-minute title piece ZEIT, the ensemble explores the concept of time as the basis of individual consciousness and the finite nature of time - or rather the possibility of infinity if one considers the theory that time does not physically exist.

"Anima Periferica" is conceived as a photographic journey through various peripheral areas of Italy – the so-called aree periferiche ed ultraperiferiche – far from the major urban centers. The project explores the aesthetic and social dimensions of the periphery, searching for what exists in places where seemingly "nothing" is to be found. In the former Piazzi store in Niederlana, the photographs from Emilia-Romagna by Federico Campana and the poetic-narrative texts by Cornelia Schöpf engage with the question of what happens to public space when it loses its basic structures – shops and local businesses. The opening on Saturday, May 17th from 6:00 to 8:00 pm will feature a music performance by the Lab Elettroacustico from the A. Vivaldi Music School, based on the works of John Cage.

In the second half of the 19th century, running a business, practicing a skilled trade, or, least of all, being an alpinist was far from easy if you were a woman. The period between 1865 and 1914 saw numerous wives of photographers active in mountaineering and mountain photography, and it would not be possible to include them all in this exhibition. Instead, four women photographers were selected to represent the group in this exhibition. Among them, Elizabeth Whitshed Main takes a special place as an outstanding photographer, alpinist, and the founder of winter alpinism in general and winter tourism in the region of Engadin, Switzerland, in particular. The exhibition also features works by Gertrude Bell, Eleonore Noll-Hasenclever, and Una Cameron, three distinguished alpinists, travel journalists, and women’s rights activists. The LanAntiqua Festival, organised by the LanAntiqua Association, aims to give "early music", which is an inexhaustible source of inspiration, its deserved place in the cultural life of Lana. This music, which is not limited to any epoch, covers the periods from the Middle Ages to Romanticism. The festival's highest maxim is: original sound, i.e. the performance of the music in an appropriate sound setting on instruments of the period and with the knowledge gained from the historical performance practice handed down in treatises. Thanks to imposing venues such as the church Maria Himmelfahrt in Niederlana with its impressive altar by Hans Schnatterpeck and its special acoustics, top-class concert enjoyment is pre-programmed.

"Testa d'argilla" is an “open work,” shaped by chance and time, which mold its form and meaning. The sculpture, made from raw clay, reflects the human condition, its identity, and its relationship with the external environment. The sun, wind, and rain will gradually wear away the work, returning it to the earth. In doing so, it will not only stimulate reflection on human existence in nature, but also raise the question of the necessity and permanence of monuments in public spaces. During LanaLive, the artist from Mantua, Roberta Busato, will erect her Testa d'argilla in the garden of the nursing home and then allow it to naturally decompose.

Featuring works by Vinzenz Aubry, Valentina Cavion, Tatiana Pakhmutova and Mike Rijnierse, the exhibition delves into the changing landscape of ritual practices in an era of technological and social transformation. Against the backdrop of LanaLive's exploration of rituals and their meaning in contemporary society, the exhibition, curated by Annika Terwey, offers a journey through different artistic interpretations of ritual experiences. The exhibition takes place in the historic setting of St. Hippolyt in Naraun, which was already frequented by people in the Neolithic Age and is one of the oldest settlement sites in South Tyrol. The place is still an important venue for various rituals and traditional customs. The church, situated on a hill and with a panoramic view from the peaks of the Texel Group to the Tisner Mittelgebirge, offers the perfect setting for exploring rituals in a rapidly changing world. With her performance Glacier Elegy, Jaanika Peerna (Tallinn/New York) confronts the climate crisis, specifically the melting of glaciers. The artist uses ice as a totemic representation of strength, beauty, and ecological fragility. As an artist in residence, Peerna is hosted at Villa Arnica, where she explores the garden and its essential foundation: the public good of water. Her work includes drawing, performance, and installation, all stemming from the rhythms and movements of the body. Peerna lives between Tallinn and New York, and her works have been exhibited in internationally renowned galleries and museums, including the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden (Washington, D.C.), the Zuccaire Gallery (Stony Brook University, NY), Real Art Ways (Hartford, CT), and the Espronceda Center for Art and Culture (Barcelona, Spain). What connects or distinguishes the Siegen region and the Merano region? Is it perhaps the cable car, the rural-urban space, the market square, or the stories of the residents? What things, thoughts, ideas, photos, or traditions do we bring with us and intertwine on site to create an artistic work? The team from the Department of Art in Public Space & Cultural Education at the University of Siegen (Johanna Schwarz, Alexandra-Joy Jaeckel, Stefanie Klingemann, and Samuel Treindl) and about 20 students are working in Lana. The results of the study stay will be visible in the public space. The center of the student action is a construction container located in the town square. From there, the students flow through the streets of Lana and come into direct contact with the local community during their artistic work.

From the Ladin Museum we set off together to discover SMACH Val dl'Ert (Art Valley), an open-air sculpture park which in 2023 has one of the special mentions in the National Landscape Award sponsored by the Italian Ministry of Culture. Along the path you will see more than 25 works of art set in an alpine forest, among the fir trees and pastures of a stretch of unspoilt nature. This is a permanent exhibition of sculptures acquired as a result of the SMACH art competition, the Dolomites Biennale. After the guided tour in the Val dl’Ert you can independently visit the Ladin Museum where you can immerse yourself in the history, culture and traditions of the Ladin people. The historical escape routes of Michael Gaismair and his army in 1525/26 as well as more recent escape routes from the 20th/21st century, which are shown in the exhibition in the form of pictures and photographs, are geographically divided into two presentation locations to the west and east of Bruneck: at LUMEN. Museum of Mountain Photography at Kronplatz focuses on Graubünden/Gadertal/Padua and Karwendel/Pyrenees/Western Alps, while at Museum Burg Heinfels the focus is on Zillertal/Salzburg/East Tyrol and Krimmler Tauern/Strandzha Mountains/Kurdistan. In the pre-summer period, the Klausner Garden Show with around 30 exhibitors offers everything for gardens, balconies and terraces: seeds and young plants, flowers and herbs as well as many other plants and plant rarities, raised beds and wooden verandas, practical garden technology, garden furniture, stone fountains, stone figures and various works of art made of stone, steel and wood, barbecues and fireplaces as well as insect hotels, wickerwork, decorations and accessories. Including a large selection of organic products. On both days, we offer a great supporting programme for the whole family: visitors can look forward to specialist lectures on the subject of gardening and gardening, musical entertainment and a craft workshop. Our gourmet and tasting corner offers typical and homemade products from South Tyrol. Food and drink will also be provided. The admission fee of €4.00 per person includes the entire supporting programme as well as admission to the Klausen civic museum and the permanent exhibitions of the Klausen artists' colony and the Loreto treasure. The 7th National Basket Weaving Symposium takes place for the first time in South Tyrol as part of the event ‘’Brennende Liab‘’. Around 30 market stalls will be set up in the old town centre, where basket weavers from all over Italy will present their work and offer live demonstrations and workshops.
