    Bolzano/Bozen, Bolzano/Bozen and environs
The Association of Artists of the Autonomous Province of Bolzano presents a new project to explore the local artistic reality. The exhibition project aims to investigate the subtle boundary between dream and reality, a fascinating and thought-provoking theme. Through a selection of works by contemporary artists, the exhibition seeks to examine how the dream world influences the perception of reality and vice versa, thus creating a dialogue between the imaginary and the concrete.

    Merchants and their evolution
    Bolzano/Bozen, Bolzano/Bozen and environs
The exhibition ‘Mercanti si diventa’ was created with the intention of investigating the figure of the merchant, the protagonist and soul of the city of Bozen from the earliest times, and his evolution from a ‘simple’ shopkeeper to a full-fledged fair merchant. On a local level, this qualitative leap took place between the 17th and 18th centuries, thanks to the spread of innovative trade manuals, the growing importance of Bolzano's fairs, and the role of the Mercantile Magistrate. The exhibition, which was realised thanks to loans from institutions, public archives and private collectors, aims to revive the intense commercial activity that characterised Bolzano's fairs in their heyday. The exhibition includes a reconstruction of the studio of an enterprising merchant. The maps, paintings and guild insignia on display emphasise how important transport activities were for international trade. On display are some valuable manuscripts from the Menz Archive, which give an insight into the complex structure that underpinned the organisation of a market, and some rare printed books, veritable encyclopaedias ‘of trade’. The exhibition ends with an inlaid panel by Alois Delug, an unfinished work from the early 20th century and exhibited for the first time at the Mercantile Museum. It ideally sums up those atmospheres, giving us a snapshot of the past of Bolzano, a city of fairs and markets. Exhibition in Italian and German

    Exhibition: Earthly Communities
    Meran/Merano, Meran/Merano and environs
The group exhibition Earthly Communities invites visitors to reflect on the farreaching consequences of European colonization of the indigenous territories of Abya Yala* since the 15th century. In multimedia artworks, eleven international artists explore the traces of colonial intervention in the environment and society. They focus on various areas: agriculture, urbanism, archaeology – as well as extractive processes that continue to cause and reinforce profound ecological and social inequalities to this day. Inspired by Achille Mbembe’s vision of an ‘earthly community’, the exhibition calls for a new, reparative attitude that includes humans, animals, plants, minerals, and spiritual beings alike. The works question the Western understanding of ‘nature’ and open spaces for alternative perspectives in which indigenous resistance, sustainable knowledge and a lived connection to the earth become visible. Local references – such as a return to earlier knowledge in South Tyrol – create a dialogue between global experience and regional responsibility. Earthly Communities thus artistically connects social and ecological justice. * Abya Yala is an indigenous term for the Latin American continent, that from a decolonial perspective, symbolizes living earth and cultural self-determination. Gras und Zähne - Al Pascolo / May safely graze
    Bolzano/Bozen, Bolzano/Bozen and environs
Scenes of peaceful life of shepherds and grazing animals, of hard work in adverse weather and in mostly uncomfortable areas: the cultural history of pastoralism moves between these two poles. When people began to settle in the Alps, bringing their domestic animals with them, the post-glacial landscape began to change. The exhibition illustrates the steps of this development up to today's debate about grazing animals and their predators. Sculptures, models, games, interviews and videos on the work of shepherds together with their dogs provide insights into the cultural practice of pastoralism and the importance of shepherds, who not only protect the flock from wolves. Shepherding can in fact play a decisive role on the environment, biodiversity, animal welfare, climate and human nutrition.

The Wolf is back | Special exhibition
Al Plan/San Vigilio, Dolomites Region Kronplatz/Plan de Corones
The wolf is back! - A human exhibition The return of the wolf raises old and new questions: How much wilderness can the densely populated alpine region tolerate? What does this mean for our relationship with the wolf? How does the predator's presence change our landscapes, herds, and ourselves? The current wolf debate shows that it is not just about the wolf. This exhibition, curated by the Alpine Museum of Switzerland, looks at people and their relationship with the wolf. It shows the situation up to 2017, with people who deal with this animal by profession recounting their experiences. Many parallels can be drawn between Switzerland, which is characterized by an alpine landscape, and South Tyrol. In comparison, there are data from South Tyrol and the latest information on the wolf situation from the Office for Wildlife Management in South Tyrol.

Visit of the school museum in Tagusens
    Kastelruth/Castelrotto, Dolomites Region Seiser Alm
The small but fine School Museum at Tagusens shows visitors and interested people the life of the pupils between the years 1933 and 1993 and is a unique collection of furnishings and teaching documents that have been preserved on site. The school life in Tagusens did not mean an encounter with the "foreign" world for the "ABC-Shooters". The children in the lonely place knew each other, only the teacher changed year after year. Furnishings and teaching objects were less worn than elsewhere and thus remained intact. Nostalgic feelings and memories are certainly not absent here and seduce to a bygone era. The school museum is open every Wednesday and Friday from 14:00-18:00 and every Sunday from 10:00-18:00. You do not need to register for a visit.

Special exhibitio "German preasants' war - the persuit of freedom 500 years ago"
Sand in Taufers/Campo Tures, Ahrntal/Valle Aurina
The special exhibition to mark the 800th anniversary of the Castle of Taufers focuses on a medieval and social theme: the relationship between the nobility and the peasantry. The exhibition, curated by Marie Rubner and the Südtiroler Burgeninstitut, can be seen at Castle Taufers from April 18 to November 2, 2025.
The beginning of the 16th century was characterized by social, economic and religious changes. Serfdom severely restricted the rights of the lower classes and forced them to pay additional taxes to aristocratic feudal lords and the clergy. In 1525, the call for equality, justice and freedom grew louder and louder. Discontent soon turned violent and the Peasants’ War broke out like wildfire in Central Europe. 2025 marks the 500th anniversary of the beginning of the peasant revolt. To mark the anniversary, the exhibition “500 Years: Peasants‘ War - Striving for Freedom” allows visitors to immerse themselves in the history of this period.

Exhibition: Mary´s dream - Portrait of a lady
    Meran/Merano, Meran/Merano and environs
Born from the collaboration of Palais Mamming Museum with Brunnenburg and the Merano Academy, the exhibition tells the story of a woman, the work of a poetess, Mary de Rachewiltz, who turns 100 this year. The story of a life woven with the simple everyday and the intellectual richness of literary circles, universities, publishing houses and libraries in Europe and America, friendships with writers, poets and artists. It is the story of a woman who knew how to be both “peasant” and “princess,” who knew how to speak, dream, and compose in Tyrolean dialect, Italian and English. The sugar maples at the entrance of the museum, a gift from her father/poet years before, symbolize Mary’s Dream, a dream that connects the lush rural world to that of literature and poetry.

Temporary exhibition: Pioneering women in mountain photography
Bruneck/Brunico, Dolomites Region Kronplatz/Plan de Corones
In the second half of the 19th century, running a business, practicing a skilled trade, or, least of all, being an alpinist was far from easy if you were a woman. The period between 1865 and 1914 saw numerous wives of photographers active in mountaineering and mountain photography, and it would not be possible to include them all in this exhibition. Instead, four women photographers were selected to represent the group in this exhibition. Among them, Elizabeth Whitshed Main takes a special place as an outstanding photographer, alpinist, and the founder of winter alpinism in general and winter tourism in the region of Engadin, Switzerland, in particular. The exhibition also features works by Gertrude Bell, Eleonore Noll-Hasenclever, and Una Cameron, three distinguished alpinists, travel journalists, and women’s rights activists. The life and work of these four pioneers of mountain photography are exhibited in rotation. Una May Cameron is currently being exhibited. On July 12, 2025 at 6 PM, the newly renovated barn at Hotel Amazonas will reopen with a special event: Gerd Sulzenbacher will give a German-language reading from his debut book “Abriss” (Engeler Verlag, 2025), accompanied by a soundscape and live set by sound artist Hannes Hoelzl. At the same time, an exhibition will open featuring works by Aaa Biczysko, Arnold Holzknecht, Margareth Kaserer, Clara Mayr, Alexander Wierer, and TETA (Jörg Zemmler). The barn, long abandoned and damaged, is now filled with light and ready for new life. The invited artists have passed through, worked in, or been connected to Hotel Amazonas in recent months – their works speak of transitions, cracks, and new beginnings. Sulzenbacher’s reading moves through a drifting urban life with wit and depth, while Hoelzl’s music opens the space sonically – first experimental, then dense and immersive. A crack still runs through the foundation, but the roof holds. The lightning has passed, wildflowers bloom – and with them, life returns.
