    What We Carry
    Bolzano/Bozen, Bolzano/Bozen and environs
Museion presents What We Carry, an exhibition that interweaves contemporary art with the core values of the Milano Cortina Cultural Olympiad 2026: inclusion, sustainability, and legacy. Featuring newly commissioned works and research by Sonia Leimer and Christian Kosmas Mayer, together with a landmark collection of 43 Olympic torches (1936–2024), the project explores how the design and symbolism of the torches intersect with questions of power, visibility, and cultural legacy. What We Carry evokes the way these values are passed from hand to hand—like the torches themselves—creating a living legacy where art meets sport. With the exhibition Museion joins the Autonomous Province of South Tyrol in its mission to strengthen the region’s cultural identity and role as a hub for international exchange. At the heart of the installation, Sonia Leimer’ expansive setting unveils a 50-meter infinity-shaped sculpture that refers to a running track and doubles as a pedestal for 42 of the Olympic torches, on loan from the Olympic Aid and Sport Promotion Project. This dynamic sculptural display transforms the torches into a powerful reflection on continuity and change, and the evolving values of the Olympic Games. Known for her sculptural and video work, Leimer often explores how physical spaces and everyday objects reflect shifting social narratives. In this project, she brings those concerns into the exhibition space, inviting viewers to consider how we engage with objects and how their meanings evolve over time.

    ARTIFICES. I creatori dell’arte - Exibition
    Bolzano/Bozen, Bolzano/Bozen and environs
ARTIFICES: THE CREATORS OF ART The exhibition “Artifices: The Creators of Art” is the third chapter of the long-term project “Stories of Art with the Great Museums”, promoted by the Department of Italian Culture of the Autonomous Province of Bolzano–South Tyrol in collaboration with major Italian museums. Created with the National Roman Museum, the exhibition explores the evolution of Roman artistic production from the Republican period to the late Empire. Through sculptures, inscriptions, and everyday artefacts, it reveals the world of artisans and workshops that shaped Rome’s material and cultural identity. Highlights include a group of fine sculptures from a late Republican villa, displayed in a setting that evokes an elegant Roman residence, and a replica of the Discobolus (Lancellotti type) from the Omero Tactile Museum in Ancona, in dialogue with the celebrated original at Palazzo Massimo.

    "Volti di mercanti" - exibition
    Bolzano/Bozen, Bolzano/Bozen and environs
The exhibition “Kaufmannsgesichter” is based on an excerpt from Johann Wolfgang von Goethe’s diary about his journey to Italy. The poet arrived in Bolzano in September 1786, at a time when one of the four major international fairs was taking place. The lively bustle of the city and the faces of the merchants—radiating prosperity and self-confidence—made a strong impression on him.

The exhibition presents the portraits of merchants who, at the turn of the 18th to the 19th century, played a decisive role in Bolzano’s development into a wealthy trading city and who were personally involved in the activities of the Mercantile Magistrate. The works, on loan from public institutions and private collectors, depict men in authoritative poses, holding correspondence, account books, or professional objects. They are often accompanied by portraits of their wives, who belonged to the new merchant aristocracy and who, through their dowries, wealth, and prestigious residences, significantly contributed to the rise of their family businesses. Several objects connected to acts of patronage, donated by the merchants on special occasions, are also presented.

Most of these portraits—created by notable artists of the period such as Carl Henrici, Martin Knoller, Giuseppe Tominz, and Friedrich Wasmann—originally hung in the private homes of the commissioners or in their business premises and offices. They are unique original works that bear witness to the golden age of Bolzano as a trading city and to the development of its local society.

A tu per tu - Ritratti dalle collezioni
    Bolzano/Bozen, Bolzano/Bozen and environs
Temporary exhibition: A tu per tu - Ritratti dalle collezioni The allure of the portrait as a representation of a subject captured in their essence, whether inner or symbolic, has not gone unnoticed by the Museum Society since the very beginning of its activity, recurring throughout its history: from 1896, the year of its first exhibition, to 1989, with the show Bozner Porträts von 1800 bis heute (Bolzano Portraits from 1800 to Today), and up to the portraits featured in the exhibition Altes Neues. Antico Nuovo, which between 2023 and 2024 enriched the final months of cultural offerings at the Civic Museum before its necessary closure to obtain fire safety certification. With the completion of the renovation works that brought the building up to current regulations, and while awaiting further structural interventions aimed at restoring the entire building, the Civic Museum resumes this fascination by presenting a temporary exhibition featuring a selection of works—some previously exhibited, others never before shown to the public due to recent restoration or recent acquisition. In respect of the rotation principle that the new displays will follow, the works, drawn from the Museum’s collections, were selected according to the portrait type, focusing along the exhibition path on four thematic areas: family portraits, individual portraits, portraits and self-portraits of artists, and portraits of figures with important roles in the city. Whether official representatives, rulers, or simply citizens, many of the depicted individuals have a specific historical connection to Bolzano; all bear witness to a particular era of the city, spanning, through an interesting variety of styles, a time period from the 16th century to the second half of the 20th century.

The museum of the Neustift Augustinian Abbey
    Brixen/Bressanone, Brixen/Bressanone and environs
Europe’s largest monastery complex in Tirol/Tirolo.

Founded in 1142 by the Bishop of Brixen/Bressanone at the intersection of two important routes - the Brenner and the route to the Pustertal valley - the Augustinian Neustift Canons Regular Monastery was recognized, among other things, as a hospice and rest area for pilgrims. Today the Monastery makes a name for itself as a place of agriculture, culture and education. From the monastery winery to the herb garden, from the electricity plant to the educational center, several businesses are united in the monastery.

The Augustinian Neustift Canons Regular Monastery in Vahrn/Varna is the largest Monastery complex in Tirol/Tirolo. The Monastery has an holistic conception and was independent and versatile from its very foundation. A walk through the Monastery complex will let you understand its size and importance as a former important cultural and economic hub of the Eisacktal/Valle Isarco valley. The first thing that will catch your eye are the architectural elements: Romanesque, Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque. With the Engelsburg, the late Baroque collegiate church, the Gothic cloister, the miracle fountain, the library’s unique manuscripts and the historic Pinakothek, the Augustinian Neustift Canons Regular Monastery is one of the most remarkable sights of the Eisacktal valley.

Snow Festival - snow sculptures festival
Al Plan/San Vigilio, Dolomites Region Kronplatz/Plan de Corones
In the quiet of winter, when the biting cold wraps around the mountains, sculptures begin to take shape — white as freshly fallen snow. In the evening, the moonlight reflects on the ice, turning the landscape into a stage of shimmering light and shadow.

Armed with barbed wire, saws, and shovels, and protected by rubber boots, earmuffs, and gloves, five groups of artists — fifteen talents from Val Gardena — will face off in a contest of pure creativity.

In January, within the enchanting setting of San Vigilio, the Snow Sculpture Festival will come to life: a true competition where the weather — hopefully merciful — acts as the silent judge of these works born from frost and snow.

    Emotional Echoes
    Lajen/Laion
    Exhibition Daniela Atzwanger
The works exhibited by the artist explore the connection between emotions, experiences, and their symbolic reflection in reality, illustrating how emotions themselves are perceived, processed, and artistically transformed into new forms. They also address fundamental themes of the human condition, such as fear and hope, dream and awareness, relationships and solitude. This polarity is reflected in the composition of the background, which often contrasts with the organic subject through subtle tones and geometric shapes. The clearly defined figures express a very free and at times bold chromatic concept, while various color application techniques give rise to patterns and graphic forms. The viewer’s imagination is stimulated by delicate symbols, allowing the works to resonate in reality as visual echoes.
Daniela Atzwanger, born in 1977 in Brunico, studied graphic design in Bressanone and educational sciences and politics in Innsbruck. Since 2006, she has exhibited in South Tyrol, Hangzhou (China), and Venice. She lives and works in Bolzano. Opening: Thursday, 09th of October, 6:30 PM Introduction: Dr. Lukas Plancker, President of the cultural association “Tublà da Nives”. The exhibition will be open to visitors until January 9, 2026. Exhibition: RETROSCENA By Chiara Bettazzi
    Bolzano/Bozen, Bolzano/Bozen and environs
The photography of Chiara Bettazzi exists in a realm of proximity to the languages of sculpture and installation, sharing with them a vocabulary of everyday objects that shape her subjects. Initially conceived as a tool for observing and controlling the installation process, it later gained its own autonomy, engaging primarily with the register of still life. Her works are object-based compositions, first constructed on a horizontal plane – as vanitas or surrealist-inspired assemblages – and later overflowing beyond the table, finding other supports in found materials from the studio – ladders, screens, temporary structures – that trace precarious trajectories around which the cluster of objects takes on new sculptural forms. The photographic act captures ephemeral encounters between objects in a state of transience, destined to return to the anonymity of everyday life. It is a performative dimension of photography, especially when the artist reveals the gestures of arranging the objects, their accidental falls and displacements – standing on the threshold between composition and decomposition, scene and backstage, where the image continually reactivates the process, restoring to the object the possibility of a new, ever-changing form. Retroscena brings together a series of recent photographs featuring the recurring element of the ladder – an emblem of the scene’s construction – alongside a new installation that gives the exhibition its title. This site-specific work was created using backstage materials from Foto Forum’s storage, remnants of previous exhibitions. The installation unfolds longitudinally, cutting the space in half with an architectural surface made of openings and layers, becoming material traces of a sedimented time. Within this context, the artist invites the audience to move through the space and become part of the scene – observers and actors in a mirroring, dual environment, where front and back tend to coincide. In the folds of fabric and the fragments of objects, memory resurfaces as a visual archive, open to ongoing processes of excavation and refiguration. Chiara Bettazzi was born in Prato in 1977, where she lives and works. Her research explores a dual on the other, a poetics of the everyday object, oscillating between accumulation and discard. In 2015 she created an observatory on the recovery of industrial archaeology in the territory that takes the name Tuscan Art Industry, in collaboration with architectural historians, environmental biologists, artists, curators, and other professionals. Her photographs and installations reflect on transformation, developing in close relation to the industrial and urban landscape. Often site-specific, her works establish a strong dialogue with space and natural light. Her works are held in public and private collections including: La Galleria Nazionale d’Arte Moderna e Contemporanea (Rome), Casa Masaccio Centro per l’Arte Contemporanea, Collezione Farnesina, Museo di Santa Maria della Scala, Castello di Ama, and Villa Rospigliosi. Selected exhibitions include: BIENALSUR, Museo di Roma a Palazzo Braschi (2025); Panneggi, Lottozero, Prato (2025); Colorescenze, Centro Pecci, Prato (2024); Recap, Z2o Project, Rome (2024); The Tilt of Time, IED, Florence (2023); Reverse, Tenuta Dello Scompiglio, Lucca (2023); Standby. Al Limite
    Bolzano/Bozen, Bolzano/Bozen and environs
Where physical strength and creative spirit meet, tension, expression, and movement are born.
With AL LIMITE, curators Lisa Trockner and Eleonora Klauser Soldà inaugurate an extraordinary dialogue between art and sport.

At the heart of the exhibition are seven Olympic medals and seven artistic installations with a strong immersive impact. Athletes and artists show how physical performance, mental endurance, and creative vision are intertwined. Through objects, videos, installations, and photography, the artists respond to the original medals and trace the path that led to them. AL LIMITE reminds us that every time we surpass ourselves, we tell a story of value and hope. The exhibition invites us to reflect on human aspiration and what remains beyond the finish line: what drives us forward, where are the limits, what does it mean to go beyond them, and when does action become memory?

At the opening, a limited edition box of chocolate bars will be unveiled, created in homage to the seven artist-athlete tandems.

At the same time, the Jahreszeitensaal at SKB ARTES will host the opening of an exhibition of graphic testimonies of the Olympic Games, curated by Eva Gratl. A refined selection of iconic Olympic posters from Michael Seeber's art collection will be on display.

We look forward to welcoming you to the opening at SKB ARTES, together with artists, Olympians, and guests of honor, and to sharing with you

    LANA | MUSIC | FESTIVAL 2025
    Lana, Meran/Merano and environs
The LanAntiqua Festival, organised by the LanAntiqua Association, aims to give "early music", which is an inexhaustible source of inspiration, its deserved place in the cultural life of Lana. This music, which is not limited to any epoch, covers the periods from the Middle Ages to Romanticism. The festival's highest maxim is: original sound, i.e. the performance of the music in an appropriate sound setting on instruments of the period and with the knowledge gained from the historical performance practice handed down in treatises. Thanks to imposing venues such as the church Maria Himmelfahrt in Niederlana with its impressive altar by Hans Schnatterpeck and its special acoustics, top-class concert enjoyment is pre-programmed.
