Watles in the Obervinschgau valley is one of the sunniest ski areas in the province’s west and features wide, mostly moderately difficult slopes especially suitable for families. Little ones can play in the 'Bubo' ski kindergarten while freeriders carve new tracks on the new Skicross slope. Then there’s the legendary valley ski run, which leads through the spruce forest, and the picturesque, floodlit natural toboggan track. Both are considered can’t-miss highlights! Due to the ski area’s location in the middle of the Sesvenna mountain chain, snowshoe hikers and ski tourers can undertake challenging high-Alpine tours into the mountains. Alternatively, a separate ski touring slope leads from the valley station up to the Watlesspitze at 2,550 m above sea level. In the Nordic Ski Sports Centre Schlinig, international professionals and cross-country skiing fans meet for classic cross-country skiing or skating up to the Schliniger Alm Alpine pasture.

The Adige cycling Trail runs along the ancient Roman road Via Claudia Augusta, in some parts flat in others downhill. The excellent network of cycle paths in the Vinschgau Valley allows for relaxed cycling on good surfaces, either asphalted or gravelled and rolled. The Adige Cycling Tour is particularly popular for moderate cyclists. There are different stations where it is possible to rent bicycles and return them in some other stations. So there is no need to bring your own bike. Simplify the tour and jump with the bike on the Vinschger Train at any time.

Freshness and the highest quality of ingredients and preparation are therefore of particular importance to us. We attach great importance to regional ingredients - milk and meat come from local farms. Landlord Rainer prepares all dishes fresh. We offer diet cuisine (also gluten-free) and light meals on request. The meals are served in one of our cosy rooms. Rainer cooks for our house guests. In the bar, at Bettina's, you can end the days in a convivial atmosphere.

Glurns, the smallest town in South Tyrol, captivates with its historic walls, arcades, and hidden gems. Although Glurns is accessible by bus, we recommend traveling to Mals if you're traveling by public transport, as you can book bike transport there (bikes cannot be taken on regular buses). From Mals, you can reach the starting point of the tour in about 5 minutes by bike. The train station in Egna is ideal for the return journey.

"The Watles", known among connoisseurs as, is a culinary highlight in the truest sense of the word.

Four-star ratings are rare for vineyards. But the Calvenschlössl Winegrowing Estate in Laudes in the community of Malles began with a vineyard at 1,000 meters and even went a step further in 2013. Or, to put it better, higher. In the monastery meadow of the Benedictine Abbey of Marienberg, Europe’s highest vineyard was planted. The German word for vineyard is Weinberg, meaning wine mountain, and that can completely be taken literally here.

In 2004, Hilde Van den dries acquired the Calvenschlössl castle. “Immediately afterward, the desire came upon us to make top-quality organic wine,” Van den dries says. But that is easier said than done, since the slopes around the house are not only steep, they also are situated at elevations between 970 and 1,005 meters above sea level.

In any case, the extreme locations have also turned out to be a stroke of luck. The southern exposure bestows upon the grapes ample sunshine, the elevation provides coolness, from which grapes with high sugar levels and prominent acidities result. In addition, in both vineyards the focus is not only on resistant grape varieties such as Solaris, Souvignier Gris, Zweigelt, and Cabernet Cortis, but also on careful dealings with nature and thus on a holistic method of agriculture.

And that also holds true in the winery. “The energy from the spontaneous fermentation from the natural yeast strains of the grapes lend our wines their unmistakable finesse and their unique character,” Van den dries is convinced. The elevation is therefore not the only special ingredient in the wine from the Calvenschlössl Wine Estate in Laudes.
