Ortler Alpine Ridgeway
Seven-stage circuit of King Ortler, South Tyrol’s highest mountain, in the Stilfser Joch National Park
This high-Alpine circuit of the Ortler group, which reaches heights of over 3,000 m as it makes its way from South Tyrol’s Vinschgau valley through to Lombardy’s Veltlin valley, is one of the most demanding high-altitude routes in the entire Alpine region. Even experienced mountain hikers will be pushed to their limits. Sure-footedness, good physical condition and suitable equipment are fundamental requirements for this tour as it also includes a glacier section. We recommend that hikers be accompanied by a mountain guide.
The Ortler Alpine Ridgeway extends across approx. 119.5 kmof the Stilfserjoch National Park, which boasts a rich variety of flora and fauna. This tour is divided into seven day-long stages that can also serve as action-packedone-day excursions. The ideal season for all experienced mountain hikers is June to September, thanks to the mild temperatures, high visibility andunique panoramic viewof the glaciers within the Ortler group.
The Alpine huts and mountain huts signposted along this high-Alpine route offer food, drink and a place to spend the night.
