Innovative, sustainable, contemporary: these new and reconstructed huts are truly something to behold.
In recent years, a young and dynamic architecture scene has sprouted up in South Tyrol and quickly made a number of striking statements – both up in the mountains and down in the valleys. These new and reconstructed buildings have been recognised with a variety of international prizes and awards. However, these Alpine and high-Alpine settings pose particular challenges for architects and master builders alike. For a perfect example of contemporary construction that is filled with care and in harmony with nature, look no further than the Zallinger mountain guesthouse by the architecture and design studio *noa, the Oberholz alpine hut by Peter Pichler, the Tierser Alpl mountain hut by the architect duo Senoner and Tammerle, the freshly-built Edelrauthütte mountain hut by architect Matteo Scagnol and the all-new Schwarzensteinhütte mountain hut from the architecture firm Stifter + Bachmann.
