    Hiking trails in the Dolomites Region Alta Badia

    Walking is the best way to enjoy wonderful stretches of greenery. During your spring in South Tyrol, you can witness the awakening of nature in the valley and on the alpine meadows in bloom. Midsummer days are equally surprising:  people are lured to mountain peaks, marvel at sweeping views and indulge in the traditional dishes served in quaint mountain huts.     This relatively easy snowshoe hike, with little variation in altitude, goes through the Armentarola meadows in San Cassiano and is ideal for anyone looking for something a bit different for half a day.

    Snow-covered meadows and fantastic views await you. You can gaze all around from the Setsas to the Col di Lana, from the Sass de Pütia to the Sassongher, from the Lavarella to the Conturines and Lagazuoi. And when, in late afternoon, the sun tinges the peaks of the Dolomites with pink or red, the natural spectacle is simply perfect.

We also recommend a visit to the highest little church in Europe, which is located just a few steps from the hut.

    From San Cassiano/Sciaré to the Malga Valparola alp and to the Passo Valparola

    This hike will take you from San Cassiano to the Malga Valparola alp - closed during summer 2024, a historic site, where the mineral extracted in Livinallongo was transported, melted and transformed into iron. The ruins of the melting furnaces are now abandoned and in pieces. Today, only the German hut’s name “Eisenöfenalm“ (Hut of the Iron Furnaces), serves as a reminder of the economic prosperity, now long gone but once enjoyed by this extraordinarily picturesque place.

    Our village of La Val, known as „Hiking village“, offers several hiking possibilities, of which the most suggestive, and suitable for the whole family, is the one through the Armentara meadows.

    After the very first steps, a breathtaking natural scenery will open up right in front of you amidst meadows full of different types of plants such as the wild orchid and gentian, which in spring reach the peak of their flowering.

    At this point you will be immersed in our country's best-known landscape. Looking up, you can admire the grandeur of the Sas dla Crusc massif.

    Do you want to experience a unique emotion? Find the hut from where you can send greetings to your loved ones by writing a postcard that will be sent twice a year: in spring at the first blossom of the flowers, and in winter when the first snowflake falls.

    Continuing on the path through the Fanes-Sennes-Braies Nature Park, you will find yourself in front of the iconic La Crusc/Santa Croce church dating back to 1484. From here, the view expands from the Piz La Ila plateau, to the Marmolada glacier.

    After two hours of walking, you will reach the Crusc da Rit cross, where a breathtaking panorama will unfold before you, spanning from the Sas dla Crusc massif to the Pütia mountain. From this vantage point, you will be able to distinguish the three churches of La Val.

    Let the (treasure) hunt begin! A family-friendly trail where you’ll encounter many charming mountain animals, ready to share stories about their lives and habitats. At the end of the path, more surprises await you… or maybe even two: the emerald-green Lech Dlá Lé lake and a well-deserved reward for the young explorers who successfully complete the treasure hunt and collect all the stamps!

    How does it work? After picking up the maps at Rifugio Lé hut, you can set off on the animal tracks – matching the stamps to each station – and, following the clues, collect the balls that lead to the treasure. Once both trails are completed, the young explorers can claim their well-earned prize at the starting hut.
