Gala Concert of the Original Tiroler Kaiserjägermusik at the Kursaal Merano The roots of the Kaiserjäger music date back to 1741, when military bands were employed for the first time. The official name “Kaiserjägermusik” was granted to the band on January 16, 1816, after Emperor Franz I issued a decree. The band’s history has been eventful: it was dissolved and re-established several times. On April 25, 1895, the former Tyrolean “Kaiser” Rifle Regiment was divided into four Kaiserjäger regiments, each of which received its own band. However, with the fall of the Austro-Hungarian monarchy, the Kaiserjäger bands also fell silent. In 1972, the Original Tiroler Kaiserjägermusik was revived by former military bandmaster Obstlt. Prof. Siegfried Somma. Since then, it has been recognized as a musical ambassador of Tyrol and has made a significant contribution to preserving Austria’s military-historical traditions. Under the direction of the new bandmaster Norbert Amon and with outstanding musicians from over 30 Tyrolean communities and in some cases even beyond the band has earned a special place in the local brass music scene and enjoys wide recognition far beyond the region. This winter, we are excited to once again offer an exclusive ice skating course in collaboration with the talented figure skater Sara Furlan. With her many years of experience and passion for the sport, Sara will inspire you with the fun and beauty of ice skating. The courses are divided by age groups: Children aged 3–5: 16:00–17:00 Children aged 6 and older: 17:00–18:00 Sara recommends attending all the sessions to get the most out of the training. However, if you can only attend a single session, that is also possible. Christmas Celebration on December 20th: As a special highlight, Sara invites you to a small Christmas celebration on December 20th at 5PM. The children will have the opportunity to show their parents what they’ve learned. Afterwards, we will enjoy a festive drink together at the snack stand.

During a guided cellar tour, visitors can learn how grapes are transformed into wine and explore the stunningly designed cellar spaces, each with its unique color scheme.

The Merano Christmas Market provides a magical atmosphere, with daily

Since its opening, the ice rink in the centre of Schenna has enjoyed great popularity. Anyone who wants to take to the ice is in exactly the right place in Schenna. The 12x30 metre artificial ice rink offers locals and guests the chance to do their laps on the shiny surface right in the village centre. Skates and helmets can be rented. A food stall offers warming drinks and snacks. Opening hours: 10:00 AM - 6:00 PM The food stall remains open until 8:00 PM Closed on Tuesdays - except from 24.12. to 06.01.

Zeitraum, the fifth exhibition in the Mamming Now series, curated by artists Valeria Ferrari and Johannes Inderst, is dedicated to the evocative power of the objects collected in the Palais Mamming depot. The focus is on collective memory and the emotional ties that everyday, often forgotten objects form with our subconscious. The artists regard the ‘understanding, naming and reordering’ of these artefacts as an act of resistance against forgetting. In this way, the objects take on a new meaning that goes far beyond their original function: they are transformed into veritable ‘fetishes of memory’ and create a space for dreams.

Come and discover the Marling Winter Magic and enjoy unforgettable moments on the ice!

Franz Wanner's first Italian solo exhibition, curated by Kristina Kreutzwald and Martina Oberprantacher, traces his complex artistic research. Using photography, video, words and objects, the artist investigates the past, focusing on the war industry and the use of forced labour in the context of National Socialism, and its effects on society in the present, bringing to light omissions that have been perpetuated over time. For this exhibition, Franz Wanner has also carried out some specific research on the South Tyrolean context and the use of forced labour during the period of the ‘Zone of Operations in the Pre-Alps’, i.e. when the Province of Bolzano was annexed to Nazi Germany.

Kunst Meran Merano Arte hosts AlpiTypes, dedicated to the contemporary reinterpretation and connection between lettering, typographic design and lettering painting. The exhibition focuses on applied graphics developed in the first half of the 20th century in the area currently corresponding to South Tyrol, Tyrol and Trentino. Curated by Antonino Benincasa, Massimo Martignoni and Anna Zinelli, AlpiTypes is based on the in-depth research conducted by Benincasa and Martignoni on local graphics. A group of students from the Free University of Bozen/Bolzano, Faculty of Design and Art, accompanied by Antonino Benincasa, reinterpreted historical typefaces from incomplete alphabets, which at the time were often made by hand, integrating the missing characters, revealing how the original typographic concept was inspired by European stylistic currents such as Bauhaus, Rationalism, the Wiener Secession, Constructivism and the Arts and Crafts movement. The project is enhanced by the involvement of international graphic designers, who use the fonts to create contemporary typographic posters. The work highlights a quality and topicality of graphic design in the area that is still almost unknown.

Sexual violence often leaves scars that last for generation. What does this mean for victims, families and our society? And how can we work together to break this cycle? A travelling exhibition on the research project TRACES. The supporting programme will be announced on the website.

Workshops and entertainment for children. Christmas is an exciting time for children, and the Merano Christmas Markets have reserved a space for them dedicated to imagination and creativity.

On December 5th, 2025, the Höllenschlucht Krampus in Lana invites you to the traditional Krampus parade. Already in the morning, the Krampuses will march through Lana, and the main parade will start at 5 PM from the parking lot of Pizzeria Alpen, proceeding with angels, Knecht Ruprecht, and Saint Nicholas to Oberlana. From 10 AM, drinks will be served at the Raiffeisenhaus, followed by an after-show party. A varied festive day celebrating the traditional Krampus custom.

St. Nicholas will arrive in a beautifully decorated carriage with his angels – bringing lovingly prepared gift bags for all the children.

The Tyrolean Advent in the Castle will be taking place in the historic ambience of Tyrol Castle. Tyrol Castle provides an atmospheric backdrop for a genuine South Tyrolean Christmas experience. Local exhibitors will present traditional handicrafts such as felting, pottery, turning, spinning, braiding, dyeing and the production of ceramics or jewelry in the castle's rooms. There will be a well-balanced program of events for visitors every day during Advent in the Castle: whilst crackling fires make for a cozy atmosphere, food stands will offer traditional dishes, baked goods and drinks. The Christmas market will also be attended by choirs and music groups, and there will also be all kinds of entertainment for children.
