Women Sport Festival: this is the title of the conference series - scheduled from 4 to 14 December - that the city of Merano is dedicating to women's sport in its various aspects. Exceptional testimonials and speakers are expected to participate. Sports councillor Nerio Zaccaria: ‘An important moment of reflection on the different facets of women's sport, with a special focus on gender equality. The talent and strength of women in the various sporting disciplines, their successes, but also the cultural and social barriers that still exist in relation to their role in physical activities and in sport in general, gender stereotypes, the theme of abuse, violence, and addictions. These are just some of the topics that will be addressed and discussed during the Women Sport Festival, scheduled from 4 to 14 December in Merano, and which will see the participation of outstanding speakers. ‘The 2024 edition of the Sports Festival is consciously dedicated to the extraordinarily growing universe of women's sport,’ explained the Sports Councillor of the Municipality of Merano Nerio Zaccaria at a press conference. This winter, we are excited to once again offer an exclusive ice skating course in collaboration with the talented figure skater Sara Furlan. With her many years of experience and passion for the sport, Sara will inspire you with the fun and beauty of ice skating. The courses are divided by age groups: Children aged 3–5: 16:00–17:00 Children aged 6 and older: 17:00–18:00 Sara recommends attending all the sessions to get the most out of the training. However, if you can only attend a single session, that is also possible. Christmas Celebration on December 23rd: As a special highlight, Sara invites you to a small Christmas celebration on December 23rd at 17:30. The children will have the opportunity to show their parents what they’ve learned. Afterwards, we will enjoy a festive drink together at the snack stand.

Ice Skating Fun in the Heart of Algund Starting Saturday, November 30, and continuing through mid-January 2025, ice skating enthusiasts can glide across the ice, practicing spins while improving endurance, coordination, and balance. Beginners are also welcome to join in the fun and can rent skates on-site. Just grab your hat, scarf, and gloves, and you’re ready to go! If your hands get chilly despite all the activity, you can warm up with a hot drink and a snack from the food stand. Opening Hours: Weekdays: 2 PM - 6 PM Saturdays, Sundays, and public holidays: 10 AM - 6 PM Closed on December 25 and January 1. School groups can book the rink during the mornings. Guest showcase by Lisa Settari. In this exhibition, Lisa Settari offers insights into her master's thesis on the coming-out narratives of women who love women in South Tyrol's recent history. The work is based on twenty oral history interviews that Lisa Settari was allowed to conduct with ten women-loving women. Thanks to these oral sources and a focus on women's, gender and queer history, the existing historiography of South Tyrol can be both enriched and critically scrutinised. Lisa Settari: born 1994 in Merano, Bachelor in Political Science, Master in European Women's and Gender History, currently lecturer at the ‘Alexandru Ioan Cuza’ University in Iași (Romania).

The project, proposed by the Passirio Merano association and the city of Merano in collaboration with the Merano Women's Museum, shows a selection of photographs, printed using fine art techniques, taken during a long journey by the author through seven Asian countries (Thailand, Nepal, India, Pakistan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Iran) with the declared aim of documenting the situation of women.

This year, the Sterntaler Christmas Market in Lana becomes even more inviting. The enchanting backdrop of the historic Capuchin Garden contributes to the cozy atmosphere, hosting nearly 20 Christmas stalls during the Advent weekends – from November 29 to December 24, 2024. Small fir trees adorned with shiny red ornaments and the warm glow of luminous spheres surround the lovingly decorated stalls offering genuine South Tyrolean handicrafts. An engaging program for the whole family – including ponies and sheep, a glitter workshop, and a hands-on circus, all set to the sounds of festive live music – completes the experience and promises unforgettable moments of enjoyment. Please note that on December 5 and December 31, 2024, only the culinary stalls will be open.

Since its opening, the ice rink in the centre of Schenna has enjoyed great popularity. Anyone who wants to take to the ice is in exactly the right place in Schenna. The 12x30 metre artificial ice rink offers locals and guests the chance to do their laps on the shiny surface right in the village centre. Skates and helmets can be rented. A food stall offers warming drinks and snacks. Opening hours: 10:00 AM - 6:00 PM The food stall remains open until 8:00 PM Closed on Tuesdays - except on 24. & 31.12.

The Merano Christmas Market provides a magical atmosphere, with daily concerts, children’s entertainment, local customs and handicrafts. There are other Christmas markets in Merano and Environs too, offering textiles, jewelry, ceramics, glass and wooden objects. Closed on 25th December.

For the first time since their opening in 2001, the Gardens of Trauttmansdorff Castle are opening their doors in the winter months for a magical attraction: The LUMAGICA Park of Lights, South Tyrol's only park of its kind, will open its doors on 21.11.2024 and take visitors on an incredible journey through the fascinating worlds of the botanical gardens. The LUMAGICA Light Park is more than just a light installation - it is a tribute to the beauty of nature and the diversity of life. Snow does not always appear pure white, at least not to the attentive gaze of two painters like Alfons Walde or Max von Esterle. In his paintings, von Esterle poetically celebrates the magic of snow, while Walde - a little later - does so with concise expressiveness. This is the first time that these two important painters appear together in an exhibition. Alongside theirs, there are also snow-covered landscapes by other contemporary Italian and Austrian artists. All of these paintings create a variegated fabric that, unravelling, creates an unmissable spectacle. In the exhibition, of course, exponents of the art of our time with their abstract compositions or thought-provoking installations have not been left out. At the conclusion of the exhibition, in fact, at a time of climate change, a question about the ‘future of snow’ could not be left out: how much longer will we be able to enjoy this spectacle?
