The exhibition showcases a targeted series of artworks from the past three years. Aesthetic forms and patterns of an entirely new and unknown world flow toward the critical awareness of climate change facing our planet. The brothers succeed in unleashing physical places into a rational realm of thought and transforming them into aesthetic settings through stylistic and colorful contrasts. What remains are surfaces, structures, and stylistic textures that take shape in the minds of viewers and ultimately transcend pure perception as a rational mechanism. In the “Photopsia” exhibition—a term that describes a visual disturbance manifesting in the form of hallucinatory perceptions—, Krottendorfer ties together three different projects about fictions from the early modern age. “Mountains of Kong”—a mountain range in Africa which was included in maps of the world until the early 20th century despite the fact that it never existed, showcasing a colonial-era production of fictitious knowledge about Africa. “Point of View”—the Chinese cabinets of the Hofburg in Brixen/Bressanone and Neustift Abbey, bearing witness to a romanticized view of an imaginary “Orient” but also to the power coming from the depiction of the world. “Phantom of the Poles”—In 1906, William Reed published a book of the same name in which he postulates that there is another world located inside the Earth, perhaps even unknown civilizations—an early form of “alternative facts”? All three projects allow us to reflect on the role of photography in the space between reality and fiction, truth and fallacy in our very own present.

Wind. The clouds, the sun, the moon. The stars. Water. Life. The quiet. Lukas Schäfer, born in 1992, hails from St.Georgen/San Giorgio in the Pustertal valley. He grew up between the Dolomites and the main ridge of the Alps. Even when he was a young child, his parents would show him the mountains. Ever since then, Lukas has been fascinated by nature, its landscapes, its details, and its animals. Lukas competed in professional freeskiing events before he got injured and discovered nature photography. He was immediately captivated. From that moment on, Lukas has rediscovered the mountains and their inhabitants time and time again with his camera. His passion would eventually turn into a profession. Some of his photographs and films have already won international awards. His debut book titled “Südtirol, Secrets of Nature” is a collection of photos and stories from South Tyrol and its border regions.

“Have you ever heard the sound of falling rocks?” is the title of a six-month journey that took place in 2022 across the Alps, in Italy, France, Switzerland, and Austria. A visual investigation of a phenomenon that is as important as it is little-known: the degradation of the permafrost. In cooperation with ISPA - Italian Sustainabilty Photo Award.

Markus Krottendorfer is showing his projects MOUNTAINS OF KONG from 2016 and PHANTOM OF THE POLES 2019-2023. Another series will be realized especially for the exhibition at LUMEN. On the mountain Astjoch there will celebrated a Mass (in german language) with the music band of Kiens/Chienes starting at 11.30 a.m.

The "Harmonie Municipale de Dudelange" (HMD) was founded in 1896 and is one of the best amateur orchestras in Luxembourg. Since 2008, it has been under the direction of the German conductor and principal clarinettist of the Bundeswehr Music Corps in Siegburg, Sascha Leufgen. The orchestra cultivates an extensive repertoire, including original compositions, arrangements, solo works and sophisticated light music.

Family friendly hike to the “Val di Morins” (mill valley). Along the way you will find various refreshment places and gastronomic specialties of the Ladin cuisine.

From July 28 to August 4, 2024, the football club VfL Bochum 1848 will prepare for the upcoming Bundesliga season with a training camp at Hotel Windschar in Gais. For the 4th time, the team will hold their one-week camp in the Dolomites Region Kronplatz. The peaceful, nature-rich, and sun-drenched location of Gais, the close proximity to the town of Bruneck with its medieval old town charm and diverse leisure activities, and last but not least, the excellent South Tyrolean cuisine are ideal conditions for a successful preparation.
