The Oberholz mountain hut at 2,096 metres above sea level opens its doors again in the evening and invites you to an ‘Aperitivo lungo’ with specially created drinks and local delicacies. The Obereggen-Oberholz chairlift is the only way up to the mountain hut and back down to the valley. In early April, with the spectacular blossom of the apple trees, the Lana Golf Club will kick off the new season of tournaments. Participants in the tournament will be able to enjoy springtime South Tyrolean specialties made with wild herbs, which will be served directly on the golf course. Vintage is the motto of Alta Badia during the two days of the Ski Carousel Vintage Party, the event that marks the end of the ski season. Attention! On Sunday all slopes close at 5:00 PM! After this time, until 7:00 PM, it will only be possible to ski down to Corvara from Rifugio Bioch via slopes 7 and 8. Chairlifts are only accessible with skis on; pedestrian access is not allowed. To facilitate access to the event, on Sunday bus line 460 will be reinforced from 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM and from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM. The traditional Brenner market takes place every 5th and 20th of the month throughout the year. If this day falls on a Sunday or public holiday, then the market takes place on Saturday before. Did you know, for example, that the apple originally came from Kazakhstan? Or that one in three of all organic apples harvested in Europe comes from South Tyrol? Together with apple grower Christine we set out on a journey of discovery through the local apple orchards. Our charming and knowledgeable guide shares plenty of interesting and curious facts about the apple growing industry in South Tyrol, about organic and integrated cultivation, the different varieties, the ingenious methods of naturally-derived plant protection and the protected designation of geographical origin. During the subsequent tasting of the different apple varieties participants can enjoy talking shop about the apples’ flavours and textures and their personal favourites. There will also be plenty of time to ask questions of our expert.

Fresh vegetables and fruits, eggs, spices, cheese, honey, wine, juice….and many more quality products cultivated and produced in Kaltern are being sold on the Square of the town. Come by and experience the taste of nature. All these products have been produced and are being sold by the local farmers themselves. In a matter of fact South Tyrol enjoys of a very good reputation as far as the production of quality products is concerned. Thanks to the accurate cultivation methods and the strict hygenic regulations there is no doubt that these goods are of the highest quality and of the best taste.

ONLY IN GERMAN OR ITALIAN How is honey made, how is a bee colony organised and why are these busy insects that never seem to get tired so important for us? This guided tour into the world of bees and beekeepers provides the answers to questions like these and more. Expert Christian Kessler from the Partschins Beekeeping Association give an overview of the lives of these hard-working little pollinators, show how they work in the open beehive and the amazing social behaviour of bees, and explain how honey gets from the flower to a jar with the “Made in South Tyrol” brand label on it. Equipped with the right protective clothing, participants can marvel at and literally get to grips with the inner life of the bee hive at close quarters. The guided tour also explains the role that the beekeeper plays, what exactly he does and how his activities must be strictly aligned to the course of the bees’ year. Afterwards, participants can discover the outstanding quality of South Tyrolean honey for themselves by tasting various types of honey.

Sparkling wine tasting and guided visit at the Kettmeir winery. The journey starts with a tour of the historic winery and ends with a final wine tasting. Participants will learn the difference between the definitions Brut, metodo classico and doux. They will also discover what the pupitre is used for and what remouage is. Traditional Bread Baking at the Tholer Farm The South Tyrolean kitchen is characterised by well-preserved old traditions. Elisabeth and Ernst of the Tholer farm let you sneak a peek behind the curtains and reveal to you their recipe for the traditional Paarl bread. Together you prepare the rye dough, form the bread and bake it in the old stone stove. You learn interesting facts about the rye cultivation and local baking tradition, and receive a recipe and some bread to take with you.
