At the start below the Frommer Alm, you choose the path that branches off to the right and with a lot of momentum you have to conquer the Carezza Pumps over 1,6 km.

The history of the Pitznerhof in Cardano is almost like the story of beating swords into plowshares. The name “Pitzner” is a corruption of “Büchsner”, referring to someone who makes shotguns who was active earlier at the farm. So for both pacifists and gourmands, that is good news, since at the Pitznerhof, they turned their back on tradition and made wine instead of weapons.

The brothers Markus and Thomas Puff are responsible for the wine production at the impressively 700 year-old Pitznerhof in Cardano at the entrance to the Valle Isarco. Their farmhouse lies at an elevation of precisely 350 meters, but the three hectares of grape growing areas are on steep slopes with deep, sandy weathered porphyry soils. “We attempt to integrate the local conditions and the microclimate into the production process in the best possible way,” says Markus Puff.

And in the winery, there is also the underlying principle of working with the grapes gently. Thus the overall picture comes together of production that is close to nature along the entire chain. “We try to fulfill our responsibility by stressing nature as little as possible,” Puff says.

This approach also forms the cornerstone for the quality of the wines from the Pitznerhof in Cardano. The product line includes Pinot Grigio, Pinot Blanc, Schiava, and Lagrein: potent, fine-structured white wines with pleasant freshness and a fine mineral-rich quality, but also spicy, pleasantly fruity, and lively reds.

At the start of the new cable car in the centre of Nova Levante/Welschnofen there is an attractive ‘flow trail’ for bikers of all types. The trail has plenty to offer, with its twists and steep turns, small bridges, jumps and north-shores, which will get every biker’s heart beating faster!

Enjoy a breathtaking view: from the Latemar group to the Weiss- and Schwarzhorn peaks, further to the Brenta group, the Ortler and finally the Swiss- and Austrian Alps. The hut will shortly reopen its doors for mountaineers from all over the world. Romina & Michel

The tour runs easily from Karer See/Lago di Carezza partly through the forest and along the street Schönblickweg/Via Bellavista to the Tschein Panoramic Chairlift.

This challenging MTB tour takes you around two majestic mountains in the South Tyrolean Dolomites: the Rosengarten | Catinaccio and the Schlern | Sciliar.

On 88 km and 2,500 metres of ascent, the full-day tour offers a breathtaking panorama of picturesque alpine meadows, dense forests and imposing, rugged rock faces as well as peaks that rise steeply into the sky.

If you drive below the Catinaccio and through the Latemar forest, you will reach Lake Carezza. This fairytale lake lies at the foot of the Latemar and reflects the beautiful mountain range. Lake Carezza is always a worthwhile excursion destination: in spring it is full of water while in autumn, you can catch sight of the nymph on the shore who, according to legend, lives there.

At the foot of the giants of the Dolomites, the Rosengarten/Catinaccio and Latemar, this tour leads over roots and stones. From Welschnofen/Nova Levante, the trail leads steeply uphill past Karer See/Lago di Carezza to the idyllic Mitterleger/Radura di Mezzo. Via paths through the Latemar forest, you reach the Karerpass/Passo Costalunga.

High above Welschnofen/Nova Levante you can enjoy the fabulous view of the Dolomites from the award-winning alpine cheese dairy.

 On the sun-kissed slopes that range from the Renon all the way down to Bolzano, people have been growing grapes for centuries. So it comes as no surprise that the Messner family from Renon, too, hurled themselves into the adventure of wine growing. That is how the Spornberg Mountain Winery in Soprabolzano was established in 2016, a young estate winery in an old wine-growing region.

The first thing that catches the eye is that the vines of the Spornberg Mountain Winery are grown in an exposed and airy location. Pinot Noir, Pinot Blanc, and Pinot Grigio are grown here, and there are a few strict policies in place that apply to both the vineyard and the cellar: work is done with consideration and a lot of it by hand.
Moreover, the Messner family and their employees always bear the natural cycle of things in mind. In plain terms, this means that nature is given all the time and space it requires. Intervention only happens when there is no other way.
Such a considerate way of working is also made possible by the location: the vineyards of the Spornberg Mountain Winery are located at an altitude of 860 meters on a sunny southern slope where the air and the sandy, loamy soil warm up quickly and offer the perfect conditions for the vines and grapes to thrive. At the same time, the location is airy; thanks to the wind, the grapes do not remain moist and fungi do not stand a chance.
Nature has been good to the young Spornberg Mountain Winery in Soprabolzano, and so it is hardly surprising that everyone here is showing it the utmost respect.

In wintertime, the Latemar Dolomites massif (Latemar translates in English to “Sea of Milk”) is transformed into a paradise for winter sports enthusiasts. Several times in the past, the Obereggen ski area was named one of the best ski resorts in the Alps, above all because of its perfectly groomed slopes, the cosy huts with regional specialities and the snow parks, which inspire both snowboarders and freestylers alike. This is a great destination for families. Parents can practice parallel turns along the sunny slopes (all difficulty levels) to the adjoining Val di Fiemme. Meanwhile, children from age three can frolic in the mini club or learn to ski in the 'snow house' and the 'Yeti Kinderpark'. Qualified ski instructors will teach children how to control their speed on two skis. There is also a tubing track in addition to snow waves in 'Brunoland' at the valley station. Should you find a day of action to be too short, you can head night skiing several times a week by floodlight, rush over the toboggan run, or practice tricks in the night snowpark. At the 'Obereggen Night Show' you can even watch the snow groomers dance through the night.

The Carezza Dolomites ski area is one of the most traditional in the Alpine region. The first ski resort was opened back in 1950 at the foot of the Rosengarten massif. Today, a modern cable car facility leads up the erstwhile "Paolina" route and an additional 11 lifts connect the 40 km of slopes. The ski area is accessible from Bolzano/Bozen in about 20 minutes and is considered a true insider tip for families. At the "King Laurin Children's World," little ones can immerse themselves in the enchanting, legendary world of the Rosengarten and learn to ski in a playful way. Meanwhile, more practiced winter-sports enthusiasts can carve down the sun-kissed slopes, speed down the toboggan run, or follow the track of the cross-country skiing trail with stunning views of the Dolomites. Apropos, there is no other place in South Tyrol where you can ski more sustainably. The Carezza Dolomites climatic ski area, for instance, only uses water from its own reservoir to produce snow. Snow groomers use snow depth measurements to ensure that they only groom the slopes to the extent necessary.

The refuge Roda di Vaèl is located on the saddle of the Ciampaz, at a high of 2283 meters and in the middle of the Catinaccio. Regarding the refuges is this one of the points of reference of this famous mountain group. At the time, when it was enlarged and renovated, was the dining room dedicated to one of the most capable alpinists of the alpine history of the Dolomites: Marino Stenico. Even nowadays are Marino Stenico's climb routes very selective. The refuge is in possession of the SAT (Association of the regional Alpini ) and is run by Roberta Silva, who is always at your disposal to give you some advice for your excursion to one of the exciting metallic fixed rope trails of the " Roda di Vaèl " or " Majarè " or to one of the many beautiful alpine tours. We are opened in summer, from June to October. The refuge offers a restaurant, bar, 50 beds, a large terrace and solarium.
