The sports zone Wasserebene is located just outside the village center of Castelrotto, the world-famous village due to its numerous personalities. On Wasserebene you will find everything a sportsman's heart desires, from a beach volleyball court, a children's playground, an artificial turf field, which can be rented for private tournaments and events, to a soccer field on which various top clubs (e.g. Fiorentina, Hellas Verona, Al Nasr) have already held their summer training camps. But not only sportive has the Sportzone Wasserebene a lot to offer. Culinary you will be spoiled by the boss himself. The traditional asparagus season starts on the water level, you can end your summer days with a cozy barbecue in company and in the cool winter months the year finds a culinary end with the two-week fish evenings.

Our traditional inn has been owned by the Baumgartner family since 1850. We have recently restored it with an eye for the detail so that it is still as cozy and welcoming as it used to be. The Heubad á-la-carte restaurant is equally appreciated by locals and hotel guests. The restaurant guide "Gault MIllau" is considering it one of the best restaurants in South Tyrol and awards it for years with a "toque" and 13 points. With its creative blend of South Tyrolean tradition and Mediterranean lightness, both for lunch and dinner it is a welcome addition to the delicious half board.

The Malga Laranzer Schwaige is situated in 1925 m at Saltria near the station on top of the Floralpina skilift. The Hans & Paula Steger Path, which leads you from Compatsch via meadow and alpine places to Saltria, passes directly the Malga Laranzer Schwaige. The panoramic view to Saltria, the Lang- and Plattkofel and the mountains of Val Gardena is wonderful!

The Almrosen hut is accessible via trail no. 7 from Compaccio/Compatsch and via the Hans-and-Paula-Steger trail, which also starts in Saltria. It is the ideal starting point for hikes to the Sciliar/Schlern mountain, the Gruppo del Catinaccio/Rosengarten, and the Sasso Lungo/Langkofel and Sasso Piatto/Plattkofel mountains.

Hmmm, what a wonderful food fragrance touches my nose? I smell the warm sweetness of the potatoes and the spice smoked bacon. This mixture is refined, only just picked fresh alpine herbs and already on my plate! Appetite to get our Tyrolean Geröstl, or can it would rather be a freshly baked apple pie? The food on our mountain hut of Mahlknechthütte is very tasty and all meals are prepared with love.

Creative regional cuisine is the forte of Hannes Pignater and his motivated team. A combination of new elements and the culinary tradition of this land of mountain farmers – based on quality produce from South Tyrol mainly sourced directly from the growers. The result: authentic original dishes like omelette with meadow herbs, hay-roasted lamb...

The hotel traditions, the warm atmosphere and the rich menu guarantee you of a serene holiday. The Schgaguler Schwaige mountain hut, lying at 1905m near the mountain station of the Ortisei / Alpe di Siusi cable car, opened in 1991. The hut is easily reached regardless of the season, whether during a bike tour or hike in summer or as part of a ski tour or snowshoe hike in winter. The spacious terrace is perfect for an outdoor lunch and guests can head to the garden to relax and sunbathe in the deckchairs. There is a playground and a small petting zoo nearby, where rabbits, goats, ponies and even lamas look forward to a visit from the children. The rustic interior is in traditional rustic style and includes a Stube perfect for spending time in good company - often for longer than expected, especially in winter!
