The Pirate Pig’ based on the book by Cornelia Funke and Kerstin Meyer.
Fat Sven and his ship's boy Pit enjoy their life on Butterfly Island. They spend all day out at sea and in the evening they lie contentedly in their hammocks. One morning, a blue barrel washes up at their feet, from which a little pig grunts at them. They take it home with them and name it Jule. They soon realise that Jule is no ordinary pig. She has the ability to sniff out treasure. It doesn't take long before the notorious pirate Knurrhahn hears about Jule and kidnaps her. Now Sven and Pit must summon all their courage and take on the pirates to get their pig back.
Performed with colourful flat figures and music.

The exhibition revisits various approaches and reflections on appropriation, artistic and monetary value, through a new commission by Jonathan Monk (UK, 1969). In Shine Bright Like a Diamond at Ar/Ge Kunst, one of the artist’s first institutional solo shows in Italy, Monk weaves together homage, parody, and (re)appropriation, engaging with the work of Chris Burden and the mechanisms of contemporary visual culture. Starting from a viral image of Kim Kardashian standing in front of Urban Light (2008), not crediting Burden’s work, the project reflects on the transformation of art into a reflective surface— a mute icon in a society dominated by image and the performance of the self. In an era where the simulacrum replaces reality, Monk sharply investigates the tensions between authenticity and representation, originality and reproduction.
Jonathan Monk was born in Leicester in 1969 and lives and works in Berlin. He holds a BFA from Leicester Polytechnic (1988) and an MFA from Glasgow School of Art (1991). He is currently exhibiting Limited Company at Belvedere 21, Vienna, Austria. Recent institutional solo exhibitions were S L at Mahler LeWitt Residency, Torre Bonomo, Spoleto, Italy (2024); Exhibit_Model Four at Kindl Berlin, Germany (2019); The Sound Of Laughter Isn't Necessarily Funny at The Gallery, at De Montford University Leicester, United Kingdom (2017); Exhibit Model One at Kunsthaus Baselland, Muttenz, Switzerland (2016); Anything by the Smiths at CAN Neuchâtel, Switzerland (2015); COLOURS SHAPES WORDS (pink, blue, square, circle) at CAC Malaga, Spain (2013); Rew - Shay Hood Project Part II, Artpace, San Antonio, Texas, USA (2009); Time Between Spaces at Palais de Tokyo and Musée d'Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris, France (2008). Upcoming: Something To See Something To Hide/Nothing To See Nothing To Hide at Museum Landskrona, Sweden.

Museion Passage and Piccolo Museion - Cubo Garutti
Museion continues to research and explore its own collection by presenting You and the Night and the Music – Francesco Conz Editions from the Museion Collection, an exhibition dedicated to art editions, especially those of Francesco Conz, one of the key figures in the promotion and artistic production of international neo-avant-gardes in Italy.
Curated by Frida Carazzato with the collaboration of the Fondazione Bonotto, through the curatorial advice of Patrizio Peterlini, the exhibition uses the museum collection to explore the cultural legacy and artistic vision of Francesco Conz. This important figure, who worked with Fluxus, Visual Poetry and Concrete Poetry artists, played a decisive role in disseminating these artistic practices in Italy and abroad.
The title of the exhibition is taken from a work by Gerhard Rühm, a visual artist, musician, poet and co-founder of the Wiener Gruppe, and one of the first artists with whom Francesco Conz began producing large-format editions.
The “You and the Night and the Music” title stimulates reflections on the relationship between art, time and the links between artists, collectors and museum institutions. The conjunction “and” in the artwork becomes, in the title of the exhibition, a metaphor for both the network of cultural connections that has given rise to one of the main hubs in the Museion collection and the figure of Conz, whose passion bound together artistic and human experiences.
A number of collectors and art critics, in fact, have played a fundamental role in the history of the museum collection. People like Paolo Della Grazia, who donated his collection to the museum in 2020, Luigi Bonotto, Henry Martin and many others, have helped to create an artistic heritage that is now an essential reference point for the study of neo-avant-gardes. Thanks to their activities, Museion has been able to enrich its collection with a body of works that bears witness to the value of publishing and screenprint production as a means of disseminating contemporary art.
The exhibition is located in the central area of Museion Passage, a space designed to host dynamic installations that are open to the public. The central and corner sections – the latter can be visited until November 16 2025 – present a selection of screenprints on canvas produced by Conz and designed to be easy to transport and exhibit in various contexts. These works interact through videos, artists’ multiples and other editions to create an experience that reflects on the art of publishing both as an artistic tool and as an effective space of cross-genre exchange, in harmony with the Fluxus spirit.

"The machinist turns the crank, the wagon spins and purrs, a little jerk, then it starts moving..." This is a quote from 1907 when the people from Bozen took the railway Renon (Rittner Bahn) to their summer retreat on the high plateau. Even today, after 113 years, our railway still runs between Maria Himmelfahrt, Oberbozen and Klobenstein as the only narrow-gauge railway in South Tyrol.
At SKB ARTES, artist Elisa Alberti presents new works on canvas in various formats. Her work is characterized by clear lines, a reduced formal language, and a soft, mostly monochromatic color palette. In addition to working on paper, wood, and canvas, Alberti increasingly incorporates sculptural elements made of aluminum.
Her compositions follow geometric principles—perfect semicircles, curved lines, and horizontally or vertically placed stripes—that oscillate between surface and structure, intuition and system. The title of the exhibition refers precisely to this dynamic interplay.
As part of the exhibition opening, a conversation will take place between the artist and art critic Nina Schedlmayer. Of Alberti’s work, Schedlmayer writes:
“When teardrop-shaped elements nestle together or a form rotates multiple times, an immense visual dynamism emerges.”
On the occasion of the presentation, Alberti's new catalogue will also be released, offering an in-depth insight into her work from recent years. Complementing the publication, two limited edition screen prints in the same format as the catalogue have been produced and will be presented for the first time during the exhibition.
Elisa Alberti was born in 1992 in Kiel and grew up in Bruneck, South Tyrol. She studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna under Gunter Damisch and Christian Schwarzwald. She lives and works in Vienna.
With the photo series “Existential Dualism”, Bolzano-based artist Elisa Cappellari explores the presence of animals in urban spaces and the subtle boundary between nature and society, between the wild and the domesticated.
The 14 photographs, taken between 2019 and 2023 in Italy, the Netherlands, Austria, and Slovakia, portray animals — such as giraffes, dogs, snakes, or cattle — in everyday, human-shaped environments: streets, zoos, museums, stables, or shops.
The images speak of relationships marked by proximity and distance, dependence and power, inviting viewers to reflect on how animals are perceived in contemporary society — as living beings, but also as symbols, ornaments, or tools.
Completing the exhibition are five poetic texts that delicately explore the relationship between animal, space, and observer.
“I photograph animals that live alongside us. I’m interested in what happens when one living being encounters another — maybe something is born that goes beyond the image,”
says Elisa Cappellari.
The artist was selected as one of the four winners of the 2024 Open Call launched by the museum, focused on the relationship between humans, animals, and nature.
The exhibition is included in the museum admission ticket and can be visited between the first and second floors.
The exhibition ‘Mercanti si diventa’ was created with the intention of investigating the figure of the merchant, the protagonist and soul of the city of Bozen from the earliest times, and his evolution from a ‘simple’ shopkeeper to a full-fledged fair merchant. On a local level, this qualitative leap took place between the 17th and 18th centuries, thanks to the spread of innovative trade manuals, the growing importance of Bolzano's fairs, and the role of the Mercantile Magistrate.
The exhibition, which was realised thanks to loans from institutions, public archives and private collectors, aims to revive the intense commercial activity that characterised Bolzano's fairs in their heyday.
The exhibition includes a reconstruction of the studio of an enterprising merchant. The maps, paintings and guild insignia on display emphasise how important transport activities were for international trade. On display are some valuable manuscripts from the Menz Archive, which give an insight into the complex structure that underpinned the organisation of a market, and some rare printed books, veritable encyclopaedias ‘of trade’. The exhibition ends with an inlaid panel by Alois Delug, an unfinished work from the early 20th century and exhibited for the first time at the Mercantile Museum. It ideally sums up those atmospheres, giving us a snapshot of the past of Bolzano, a city of fairs and markets.
Exhibition in Italian and German
Scenes of peaceful life of shepherds and grazing animals, of hard work in adverse weather and in mostly uncomfortable areas: the cultural history of pastoralism moves between these two poles. When people began to settle in the Alps, bringing their domestic animals with them, the post-glacial landscape began to change. The exhibition illustrates the steps of this development up to today's debate about grazing animals and their predators.
Sculptures, models, games, interviews and videos on the work of shepherds together with their dogs provide insights into the cultural practice of pastoralism and the importance of shepherds, who not only protect the flock from wolves. Shepherding can in fact play a decisive role on the environment, biodiversity, animal welfare, climate and human nutrition.

A new perspective on ceramics at the Südtiroler Künstlerbund
With its extensive exhibition ‘Un - limited world CERAMICS’, the Südtiroler Künstlerbund focuses on clay as a material and demonstrates that ceramics are currently in vogue. Curators Eva Gratl, Eleonora Klauser Soldà and Lisa Trockner want to open up a new and conscious perspective on the multifaceted world of ceramics, a material that is receiving increasing attention in contemporary art and is used by renowned artists as a means of expression. The group exhibition reflects the enormous variety of clay as a material: its flexibility, the wealth of creative possibilities it offers, and even the technical limitations it imposes. In an innovative and varied way, the ceramics in this exhibition go far beyond craftsmanship and present themselves as a medium with great expressive potential, capable of unleashing immense creativity. Large sculptures, small objects, bold shapes, wall installations, poetic creations, formless, imaginative and playful works, lively in Baroque style, radically abstract, fragile, poetic – and not just vases and containers: the formal repertoire of the exhibition focuses on the expressive power of “free” ceramics and testifies to the fascination with a material that, thanks to its visual effects, dares to abandon tradition. In total, 20 artistic positions offer a glimpse of what hands can imprint on clay, of the forms that can be preserved.
