On the way to the Tschögglberg high plateau

Jenesien/San Genesio, Mölten/Meltina, Vöran/Verano and Hafling/Avelengo - four mountain villages on the Tschögglberg high plateau, where experiences close to nature and lived tradition go hand in hand. Set between Bozen/Bolzano and Meran/Merano, the region enjoys a quiet and sunny location above the Adige Valley. Here you will find alpine pastures, forests, views and an authentic South Tyrolean way of life.

In Jenesien/San Genesio, pyramids of earth rise out of the ground, shaped by wind and time. In Mölten/Meltina, you can taste exquisite South Tyrolean sparkling wine at over 1,200 metres above sea level in the Arunda winery. Vöran/Verano surprises you with an outdoor cinema: in the Knottnkino cinema, you sit in cinema seats - but the film is the landscape. And in Hafling/Avelengo you can meet the famous Haflinger horses and visit the small church of St. Kathrein.

Whether in spring, when everything is in bloom, in summer on the cool heights, in the colourful autumn or in the quiet winter - the Tschögglberg mountain always has something new to offer. And you just go with it.

Tradition creates continuity

The Haflinger horses and the larch meadows are closely connected to the high plateau Tschögglberg. Preserving this cultural landscape and its four-legged inhabitants matters deeply to the people who live here. The tourism organisations on the Tschögglberg focus on certified sustainability, promote targeted measures and help maintain the balance between nature, animals and people. For this commitment, the destination has been awarded the South Tyrol sustainability label.

You can experience this close connection between humans, animals and nature for yourself. From late May to October, the Haflinger horses graze on the lush meadows. Probably since 1904, the year in which the Haflinger was first officially recorded on the Tschögglberg.

For over 120 years, the Haflinger Horse Breeders’ Association has worked to preserve the distinctive characteristics of this breed. An anniversary exhibition gives you insight into their origins and shows why they remain so important to the region today.

Natural idyll above the Adige

Are you looking for unspoilt nature, lived traditions and a warm welcome? Look no further than the small villages of Jenesien/San Genesio, Mölten/Meltina, Vöran/Verano and Hafling/Avelengo on the ridge of the Sarntal Alps. The villages are nestled in a carpet of green pastures, surrounded by ancient larch forests. Everything seems to move a little slower here, but sense of community and a deep connection.
