Holidays in Hafling/Avelengo - Vöran/Verano - Meran 2000

On the  sunny high plateau above the spa town of Meran, ideal holidays for families and recreational hikers can be had in the villages of Hafling and Vöran, as well as in the car-free ski and hiking region of Meran 2000. Numerous hiking trails, as well as Nordic Walking and bike paths, make it easy to stay active during your summer holiday. In winter, the Meran 2000 ski area, with its wide slopes and special offers for kids, is especially family friendly. Hafling is home to the famed Haflinger horses. Head out for a ride or sit back and relax during a sleigh ride with this iconic animal. The Knottnkino viewpoint near Vöran is a natural spectacle which must be seen to be believed. Upon its rocky face, the drama of the mountains plays out its daily outdoor theatre.

Tradition creates continuity

The Haflinger horses and the larch meadows belong to the Tschögglberg like the sun to the sky. People here care deeply about preserving this cultural landscape and its four-legged inhabitants. That’s why the municipalities on the Tschögglberg have now received the South Tyrol sustainability label. You can feel this close bond between humans, animals and nature for yourself: From late May until October, the Haflinger horses graze on the lush mountain pastures. Probably since 1904, the year in which they were first officially recorded in the Tschögglberg area. For over 120 years, the Haflinger Horse Breeders' Association has worked to protect and preserve the distinct characteristics of this breed. An anniversary exhibition tells the story of their origins and explains why they mean so much to the region.
