Snowshoe hikes in Vinschgau

This route leads from the bus stop in Stilfs/Stelvio, passing Platzhof farm and heading along a forest trail to the Obere Stilfser Alm Alpine farm that towers over Stilfs at an elevation of 2,077 m.
 Be sure to give yourself a well-earned break at the farm: the view of Ortler mountain from this tranquil setting is truly stunning and a hot flask of tea can work wonders.

Walking tour in the Valley of Planeil
From the mountain village of Planeil, trail No. 6 follows on the broad valley path through sloping meadows to the wall remains of the Petesetteshof farm. Continue on until the way forks left, from here go up to the Planol Alpine hut (2069 m).
Descent: from the hut downhill through Alpine pasture slopes, following trail No. 10 to above Planeil village and at the end take a steep right down to the starting point.

Attention: This snowshoe hike requires knowledge of avalanches and snow safety.

The trail passes through the varied natural and cultural landscape of the district Waldberg, courts and private land, where people get an insight into the work and the life of the inhabitants.

The walk starts at the "Niederhof", from there follow the forest road to the "Oberhof", where the path no.26 leads uphill through the forest. This path leads up to the crossing path no.24A, where the family hike continues left to the "Suachbichl". Now it goes on at the path no.15A back to the path no.15, this path leads to an unlabeled but highly visible way again down to the trail no.15.
You walk past the "Stallwies- and Greithof" and from there follow the marking 15A. Once the path leads out of the forest, the trek continues left and returns through the forest path no.8 back to "Niederhof".

The untouched Lagauntal, one of the most beautiful valleys in South Tyrol, and the mountain pasture Bergl are also a popular place of excursions in winter. You hike through a snowy, idyllic high mountain landscape with extensive larch forests.

According to oral tradition, after the dissolution of the Carthusian monastery of Allerengelsberg in 1782, the farmed Alpine pastures of Klosteralm at 2,152 m became the property of a number of families in Certosa/Karthaus who set up a syndicate which has thirty members today. The farm was only accessible by a narrow mountain path until a transport cable car was built in 1959. Thanks to the avalanche barrier beneath the Kreuzspitze, a road link was provided as an “ancillary benefit”. Due to its steep and stony pastures, the farm has been used almost exclusively as a typical farm for young cattle.

A hike with a fantastic panorama and historical highlights. The tour starts below the sports field in Reschen/Resia. Follow the path signposted no. 2 in the direction of Plamort. Walk along the forest road for about an hour until you reach the plateau. Here you can explore the first bunkers, a complete defence system from the Second World War. If interested, follow the signs at the Oculus information board to the anti-tank barriers on the left hand side of the forest road. Alongside the anti-tank barriers to the east the path branches off to the south. A little further on, directly after the hill, a breath-taking panorama awaits you at the viewing rock. For the descent, not far from the panorama point, a narrower and steeper path no. 1A on the left leads back to Reschen.
Note: If the descent is too steep, follow the forest road instead and continue on the same route as on the ascent.

The mountain pasture Lafetz lies on 2,015 m a.s.l in the middle of a magnificent natural landscape. There you will be rewarded with an exclusive view of the Similaun, the Ötztal Alps and the place of discovery Ötzi.

The mountain pasture Mastaun is also temporarily managed in winter. It is located in the high mountain valley of the same name, the Maustaun Valley, and belongs to the farmstead Mastaunhof, which is one of the largest farms in the Schnalstal Valley in terms of area. There are some indications that several centuries ago the mountain pasture was still a farm that was inhabited all year round.

In the about 3 kilometers long loop road, twelve stations invite young and old to play and discover. Zipf and Zapf go along with the little natural scientists on their walk and narrate them interesting facts about the forest and its inhabitanst. At the same time the children have to crack several riddles to find the mysterious treasure at the end of the road. The trail is positioned amid of the talai forest in San Valentino. The Furkelhütte mountain hut towers over Trafoi at an elevation of 2,153 m. Trail no. 17, which leads from Trafoi (near the lift station) to the Furkelhütte, is the classic option for winter and snowshoe hikes in the Trafoi area. It leads hikers on a two-hour excursion through a romantic forest setting to reach the hut. A renovated trench section shortly before the end of the trail provides a fascinating insight into the hard life endured by soldiers during WWI. The sun terrace boasts the best view of King Ortler and the surrounding mountain panorama – all the way through to the Stilfserjoch ridge. The return leg can also be completed via a 20-minute ride on the chairlift.

Starting point: North lakeshore of the Lake Haider in S. Valentino alla Muta Ascent: Along the western lakeshore to the southern end of the Lake Haider, then take the road on the right side, along the trail number 8 for Lake Faulensee. Turn right again to the old alpine path, which goes into Zerzertal. Pass the St. Martin Church and walk up the bridge just before the alpine pasture Malga Brugger/Brugger Alm (it is closed in winter). Over the lower trail number 7 across the Petsch forest in north direction back to the village St. Valentin. Arrived at the forest road, the way goes further on the skiing slope. Down to Plagött (posibility to stop for a bite to eat), and on to the valley station of the Malga S. Valentino/Haideralm.

This snowshoe hike leads from the Langenstein chairlift valley station to the  mountain station.

The tour starts at the Hotel Waldheim in Val Martello and goes over the bridge of the Plima. Continue along the path no.5 through the wood untill the "Löcherhof", from there on the old road at the free slope to the meadows of "Hochegghof" and a moderate rise brings you to the "Stallwieshof" (1,926m). From there you go on at the footpath no.8 to the log cabins of the Malga Schluder/Schluderalm. Following the path no.34 up to the forest and then down into the valley. At the end of the tour, cross again the bridge and return to the starting point. A wonderful winter tour with great views!
